Reading up on/watching videos helps and having places like Pinterest to go for inspiration...I no longer have to keep twenty years worth of Sunset magazines in a closet. Have fun, wear protective gear and save the beer for the end of the day.

    Cool project! I just about had a heart attack when you said the can of Minwax was only about $7. Up here in Manitoba, Canada it's more than double! I may have to start smuggling spray paint and wood stains across the border!

    • @Golden_Mustang
      @Golden_Mustang 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      R Roman I agree. It is totally absurd, but unfortunately kind of the way it is up here. Hundreds of products cost more and the companies will always claim the increased sale price is due to exchange rates and customs. There are quite a few similar products, but unfortunately priced about the same or higher. 🤷🏼‍♀️

    • @Romanslost
      @Romanslost 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Golden_Mustang that's a shame, because even when I was in Alaska at one point in my life I don't ever remember certain products being that expensive. Just typical things like groceries and stuff like that. You should definitely start smuggling lol

    Joiner here, a little tip when your mitre saw won't cut a sharp enough angle. You can place a wedge or peice of timber between the fence and the timber you are cutting. That way your timber is resting at a sharper angle to the blade and would save time next time you need to cut a load of angled cuts.

    I'm glad I watched this one. I almost didn't, just b/c I didn't care for the design of the door in the thumbnail. But I learned some good tips in the way you designed the door. Mostly saw how easy it was to create such an expensive looking design.
    Question, at night, if someone is in the bathroom and the bedroom is dark, is there much light bleeding around the edges? I'd love to do this in my master, but the current position of the bed would shine light on my wife's face if there is much bleeding from the edges.
    Great video!

    These doors are great, and that’s a cool project. But a word of caution for most couples: barn doors leave a significant gap on all sides of the door opening. Meaning sounds, smells, and light all escape. Not the most private environment. Great for closets and dens and many applications, but I strongly advise against doing this in a main bathroom as guests might be hesitant, but also in a master bedroom: unless your partner is fine with the aforementioned pollutions invading the bedroom.

    I've seen a ton of barn door builds o YT. This is hands down the freakin coolest one out there IMO!! We only have one are in our entire house that can even accommodate a barn door & this is something I'm really thinking of trying. Great build Bud. Hoping all is well, Dirty Jersey out!!

    I think it's hilarious when wood builders label projects like these for beginners when they're using thousands of dollars worth of equipment.

      Well when you're in the trade for a living, you're only making as much money on how efficient and timely you are. Which a big portion of that has to do with how good your tool is for the job.

      @@anand8905 Yup, I have done a lot of home DIY stuff, and have not had the proper tools because I didn't want to go out and spend 500 dollars on something. With trying to work around it, mistakes, and starting over, I end up spending just as much, or more, if I would have just purchased/rented the tool. Not to say you need all the tools above, you don't. But the quality may not be as good.

      @@Jack_Of_Some_Master_Of_None Exactly. Some times it's worth paying a little more for a tool when you know it will safe you time and money in the future.

      @@anand8905 yup, I regret not getting a jointer and/or planer for my built in entertainment center. Everyone else thinks it looks good... But I see the discrepencies and it drives me nuts.

      @@Jack_Of_Some_Master_Of_None a good jointer and planer can make a world of difference. Will definitely be getting one of each when I build my future shop
