This video reminds me of a story I heard from a tonebase piano video. The gist of it is that apparently there was a reporter who was tasked interview Rachmaninoff for his newspaper. When the reporter went to Rachmaninoff’s home Rach’s family turned the reporter away, saying that the maestro was practicing and was not to be disturbed.
Rather than leaving, the reporter snuck outside to Rachmaninoff’s practice room window, to try and hear how he practiced.
He was apparently practicing the sixth’s etude by Chopin, so slowly in fact, that after ten minutes of listening the reporter left the property, bored to death.
The lesson here is twofold: Firstly, true slow practice is often much, much slower than we think it is, and secondly, if slow practice is good enough for Rachmaninoff, it’s good enough for all of us 😂
    Great video!

Just found this channel tonight…. subscribed straight away. Looks like some great content. I’ve just finished grade 8…. but came to piano late in life, started 6 yrs ago at 47, & now wanting to explore some longer pieces. This is great advice I’ll definitely be using, thank you.

Like some others here I just found your channel. Keep up this excellent work 👍 Your advice is very down-to-earth, practical and well-thought-out. As you consistently point out so well, practicing without focus is not time well spent. In fact, I've found that unfocused practice can actually take a piece that's already at a certain level and make it worse. I'm no neuroscientist, but I'd guess that practicing the same mistakes each repetition starts to cement and strengthen the wiring of those neurons. Then, trying to finally fix the mistakes takes a lot more time for the rewiring.

I started learning the piano as an adult and right now i am 1 and a half year in the study with a teacher. What should i focus on at this beginning stage? kinda lost and i'm still at the same routine. Currently i m working on learning all the major / minor scales , with arpeggios and chords. Beside this there is always a piece to learn. This is my practice routine...

good advice playing extremely slow so the brain can have a great opportunity to solidify what needs to be done for perfect playing. I need help with the following, Im able to learn certain passages until I get to a certain speed, to play faster unfortunately I may have look at a different fingering. this causes a releasing and a waste of time. your help would be appreciated thank you

Yea, seems legit. Will try that since im currently struggling at phyxinon- Anima cover. There is that one part around 0:55 that is just absolutly nuts to play with both hands at that speed. Will update how it worked out !
