From my understanding the initially ignition phase, “off gassing” is when your Traeger is igniting the left over pellets from the last cook. It’s not the good clean smoke that you get from raising the temp after the initial lighting. Hope this helps!

It’s a good idea to open the lid for about the first 5 minutes to let that grey smoke escape. Otherwise, you could have an explosion.
