Thank you boulderdamn, from a 50 year old Scot who saw them with Blondie as support in Glasgow....an age ago! They are still awesome...:)

I remember buying the single through the mail after seeing ad in Rolling Stone as a friend saw them in Manhattan and highly recommended. The band self released this and sold through the mail and at shows and 'trunk of their car or handbags'

This is good, but Verlaine has lost a lot his edge. I also feel sorry for Lloyd who looks like a caged tiger, waiting to roar. I saw Television at the Rainbow with Blondie as support and they were ten times better than this. Even when they played the Hammersmith Odeon with the Only Ones supporting they were much much better versions of these songs...a shame, but we all get old. I agree with Richard Hell in that Tom Verlaine was a much more savage and unpredictable beast back in 74/75/76

One of my main influencers, use of wide and fast vibrato, original theme construction in improvisation ( few "licks") interesting clear tone, the exquisitely evocative Symbolist-style lyrics-- I saw him live in Poughkeepsie around 1990 and compared to them he seems impaired somehow here-- fatigue, illness, drugs-- IDK. But man, when you lead the making of an utterly unique, eternal album like MM -- you don't have to apologize for ANYTHING.
That concert was, surprisingly to me, sparseley attended, maybe only 100 people there? Opening was The Runaways and near the stage door was a beautiful vintage white Chrysler Imperial I assumed was from the Verlaine group or himself.
There was no packed crowd, I stood in a mostly empty dance floor about 30 feet away diligently stealing licks and technique, and right in front of me were the lovely and sparingly attired ol) Runaways, almost as enraptured as myself. They would periodically turn around and look at me--I was more well-preserved at this point--I could see them confer after taking a look at me and imagined them (correctly) saying " Must be a musician." I was sort of the only guy around them!
    What a tool.
At one point, during this little drama, and I STILL don't know if this was a delusion, he repeated over and over again, 10 times or more "What are you waiting for? What are you waiting for?..." while apparently looking directly at me. I felt on the spot, there were the alluring Runaways LITERALLY RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME NOTICING ME, and onstage the AUTHOR OF MARQUEE MOON ADMONISHING ME--" I AIN'T WAITIN' UH-HUH."
    And of course I failed.
We retiring introverts have our own story to tell. But it's nothing like Marquee Moon, when "the lightning struck itself."
