Totally agree. What a tremendous musician, lyricist and singer Tom Verlaine is. His band, Television, helped CBGB become the birth of punk rock and his guitar solos were mainstays on all of Patti Smith's hit singles. Do yourself a favor and listen to his solo album Flash Light.
I'm 56 and I realized that since I discovered Tom Verlaine/TV around 1986 they are only known by musician and deep music fans. Even music press always pride their art and both guitarrist appear on guitar hero lists they are quite unpopular......at least here in Spain. Same in other countries???
They always talk about the guitar interplay but Billy Ficca was the musical glue that held the masterpiece together. My all time favorite drummer. saw him in The Waitresses and Washington Squares too. Jazz roots .. he just plays with dynamics and the perfect parts.
Thanks for posting this. I was at this show and the venue is known for the best sound in Pittsburgh. Fantastic performance and damn near a religious experience live. R.I.P. Tom.
Just posted below this one with kudos for the band and especially Richard's playing. But wanted to add...regarding Richard Lloyd's guitar style, he gets profound "vibrato-tremolo" with his hand. He's so widely skilled. I'll see him and his own band this Saturday 5/7/22 at The Mohawk Club in Buffalo, New York (so proud of my nephew, Colin Pratt, who's opening with his Band "Nervous System"). -Doug Pratt, Atlanta, Georgia, USA
