I cannot believe you’d spill my secret - the ultra-profane language I wield on Voxer. Gah!
Thanks, Steve! I cannot wait to dig in!

The Man on a Donkey is the standout from the list of historical fiction on the Tudors. Extremely well-written and researched. No anachronistic feel to it as well.

I'm an occasional reader of Tudor Historical fiction, but a very frequent reader of Medieval and Tucor nonfiction. I agree totally about your main choices, However, I do not have the Penn nor the Neale, so am off to find both. I could bear to hear more on this subject. Great video, and thanks, Steve.

Thanks so much for making this starter kit. I was wanting some nonfiction to go along with the Mantel trilogy that I hope to read soon. I've now gone down a rabbit hole (during your video) and found Ackroyd's entire series....now I just wanna read them ALL RIGHT NOW!

This was a great list, Steve! 100% with you on Wolf Hall. I had hated Cromwell before I read that book. My wife was the same way. Ford Maddox Ford did leave me cold with The Fifth Queen, but I was probably comparing it too closely to Parade’s End when I read it.
Great to see Peter Ackroyd on here too, fabulous book. I haven’t read The Brothers York, but it sounds quite strong. Do you lean towards Richard III, Henry VII, or the field when it comes to the Princes in the Tower?
House of Treason about the Howard family is one of my favorite nonfiction books about this time, juxtaposes well with either Henry VIII or Elizabeth I.
Thanks again for sharing this. I hope you’re well.
    Cheers, Jack

Great starter kit! Thanks for listing the books you talked about. I'm off to see if I can find some of these. My library is small and doesn't have much of a selection of anything. I have new authors to check out.

I'm assuming you left "The Prince and the Pauper" out of your Starter Kit list because you consider it more advanced reading.

My intro this year was Henry the Eighth by Francis Hackett. I thought it was great, I really enjoyed it.

An interesting list. I’ve been looking online and everything you’ve mentioned is available from a certain well known superstore. As I’m not going out among people yet - low immune system etc etc - I will have to give the billionaire some more money.
A while ago the last recommend might have been A Man for All Seasons which was a beautiful film as I recall. Shame about the human bonfires not mentioned re Thomas More. Strange how these figures loom so large in our imaginations. They are so colourful compared to our present day rulers and so on. Apart from King Boris of course. A joke a day keeps reality at bay!!!

Actually, when Henry was accused of having slept with both Anne’s sister and her mother, his defense was “Never with the mother.” Though it still could be a lie…

Did I miss it? I know Steve did a Tudor Shmuder starter kit about English history outside of the Tudors.
