A red darted right past you if I’m not mistaken haha. I hooked onto a 40 inch+ before out there and it snapped my 30lb test like it was nothing. I will definitely be back out on the water in August, can’t wait
I caught the biggest Black Drum last year in Dulac, LA. I can't wait to go back with my new yak and land some monsters. That water looks much cleaner than here on the Atlantic ICW, good job.
Nice video and well done again. Man some good looking water. That kayak cruises now!! Interesting how after a hook set - especially with tide coming to you - the reds will run toward you so fast that it feels like you’ve lost them. That’s when a very high retrieve ratio on your reel pays off. Can catch up to that fish and keep tension on. I use Lew’s Speed Spools and either 7.5:1 or 8.3:1 ratio. Fun fishing with those spinner baits. I recently used a chatterbait and had same good success. Hoping for some morning topwater soon as well. Way to go and good luck ahead. Cheers!
Thanks, I appreciate the tips! I saw that chatterbait video, awesome stuff! I'm gonna try for a topwater bite soon. It'll be crazy if I catch a topwater redfish before a bass, but with how much time I've been spending saltwater, I think that's likely to happen! Didn't end up making it into this video, but I went way up into the marsh and found some crazy clear water with a handful of redfish up real shallow. There was a ton of grass/vegetation, but I sight fished it for about two hours and they didn't want anything I threw at them.
Great video! I kayak fish out of Hopedale all the time. I’m getting my kayak rigged up with a trolling motor this week. Looks like getting the extra distance really made a difference for you this trip. Hoping for similar results as well! Were you up in St Malo?
Thanks man! You won't regret it. It is a real game changer out there. I was very close to St. Malo in this video, but didn't have to go that far out to catch em.
@theangriestangler It's part of the million dollar St. Bernard marsh restoration project that's been in the works for years, but just recently started in the 2020's. We "lost" some ponds at Shell Beach behind the rocks, lots of area west and south of the Delacroix marinas and now all marsh around Lena Lagoon. It's great that they're working on reclaiming land, but sucks that we lose sight fishing spots.
@@JohnNguyen4 Yeah kind of a double edged sword. Gonna be better in the long run, but especially hard on kayakers. Looks like I'll really have to run that trolling motor next time to get to some good marsh!
I noticed a really cool hidden detail in the water after uploading between 07:15-07:20. Anyone else notice?

@@christopheralcazar8031 You got it! Man, I cannot wait to hook into a 40 inch or bigger

@@theangriestangler Just picked up an Old Town PDL 106, I fished out of a PDL 120 and fell in love with it.

Was that Lena lagoon? Looked like it.

@@theangriestangler Awesome, my dad is in town this weekend, so I think we'll head out there this weekend and test it out!
@@smsaenz Good luck! Let us know how it goes. I'll be out there again this Friday, but in a boat instead of the yak this time.
I went to Lena Lagoon recently and was heartbroken to see that they are fillling all the canals and ponds you're fishing SE side of the lagoon.
Man, that is sad to hear. Any idea why/what's going on?
