My Greatest Kayak Fishing Moments of 2024
Today, I’m sharing my top 5 best kayak fishing catches of 2024! This compilation includes some of the most exciting moments I've had during my fishing adventures, from reeling in redfish and bass to landing a giant pre-historic gar fish and a hard-fighting smallmouth bass. These are the catches that stood out the most this year, and that showcase how incredible it has been to kayak fish this year.
Most of these fish were caught here in Louisiana. I'm so grateful to live here, as we have some of the best inshore fishing there is!

3 Days Off-Grid - Camping & Fishing in a Remote Swamp | Catch & Cook
มุมมอง 1.7K28 วันที่ผ่านมา
Today, a friend and I kayaked into one of the more remote parts of Louisiana to do some camping and fishing for 3 days. We were lucky to catch enough fish for a catch & cook, and I lost a little bass. We encountered a few alligators, and I captured some really good audio of the nature around us, as well as our campfire steak and fish muckbang. This was my first overnight trip ever, and I'm glad...
Louisiana Speckled Trout are Biting, but Can I Catch a Keeper? | Inshore Kayak Fishing
มุมมอง 871หลายเดือนก่อน
Today, I set out into the marsh for an overnight fishing trip, but a hurricane in the gulf and a flooded boat launch led to me deciding not to stay the night. In hindsight, I probably could have camped in the spot I found. I caught a lot of speckled trout, but most of them were just shy of being keepers. The wind was ripping, and it was hard fishing, but I'm always having fun as long as I'm cat...
Solo Camp, Cook, & Kayak Fishing for a New Species | Secluded Louisiana River

Today, I finally got a chance to check out one of Louisiana's best kept secrets - one of it's beautiful scenic rivers. These rivers hold spotted bass, and this was my target species. I was lucky enough to catch a few, and to add this fish to my list of species caught. This tranquil river has birds and wildlife in abundance. I saw animal tracks everywhere along the beaches, and you are sure to h...
The Biggest Fish I've Ever Caught While Kayak Fishing in the Rain
มุมมอง 1.2K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
Today, I took my new Native Slayer Kayak out into the marsh right as some bad weather was rolling in, not expecting much, but hoping for a couple of speckled trout or maybe even a redfish. The weather was rough, with constant high winds and eventually rain, and I had no idea what kind of fish would be biting in these conditions. After catching a bass and some speckled trout, I hooked into somet...
I Went Saltwater Fishing After a Hurricane & Had Surprising Results! | Solo Kayaking & Adventuring

Today, I took my kayak out into the marsh once again for some saltwater fishing. We actually had a hurricane pass through the area the day before my trip, and I wanted to see the fishing would be impacted. Interestingly, the fishing was actually better in my opinion, and I caught a decent amount of redfish, bass, and one speckled trout. As usual, Louisiana's marsh was absolutely beautiful, even...

Today, I kayaked out into the Louisiana marsh before dawn to watch the sun rise and immerse myself in a full day of saltwater kayak fishing, nature exploration, birdwatching, and wildlife observation. Redfish SUCCESS With A SURPRISING Lure! | Secluded Marsh Kayak Fishing

Today, I set out on an exciting inshore kayak fishing adventure as I explore a secluded saltwater marsh here in Louisiana. It was an incredible adventure, and I ended up landing two beautiful redfish - one of which was caught using a Texas-rigged, weightless fluke, which is typically reserved for bass fishing. I suspect this lure may become my new secret weapon for shallow marsh redfish. I also...

Today, I set out to see if I can catch some nice bass in a few of the local urban ponds in my area that face a lot of fishing pressure. It has been raining nonstop here in Louisiana, and I have been so tired of not being able to fish, so I had to get out of the house today. Great video !!!
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching!
Have you had good luck fishing in 2024?
Great video! Your open fire cooking skills could use some refinement.. as in cook/boil low over coals, not high over flame. Beautiful location, enviable trip.
Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for watching! I definitely have a lot to learn - but I think that's a lot of the fun for me and I hope to document all the mistakes along the way. Thanks for the tip and please continue to share them.
There is nothing that tastes better than catching and cooking in the great outdoors!
Very true! Something special about eating something you’ve caught.
Looks like a fun trip and nice work on the vid! A little trick I picked up to avoid the annoying soot on the bottom of metal cooking pans and stuff when cooking over a fire - smear some dish soap on the bottom, or use a small piece of tinfoil under the pan. It’s amazing how much the soot stuff gets everywhere!
Thanks for watching! I’m glad you enjoyed it. It was a lot of fun but also very challenging as well. Thanks for the tip! It really does get everywhere.
Great video. Very well done! Fun to watch. Good luck ahead. Cheers!
Thanks for watching! Catch you on the next one!
Nice video. I have a Hobie Lynx, 180 mirage drive, and all that. Ive recently added a bixpy motor. Mostly to cover more water, keep up with friends who have faster yaks, and save energy. You hit the head on the cons. The big disadvantage is setting it up before launch and the time it takes to do so.
Sounds like a nice setup! I just got a Native Slayer 10 w/ a drive and I'm loving it. I gotta say I do prefer it over a trolling motor.
@theangriestangler that's interesting. I was wondering if u away from the motor.
@@badhombrefishing I've got both now! I still prefer the motor for open water, but one of the downsides of having a motor is if you get weeds in it, there is not really a way to remove them without getting back on land, whereas with my pedal drive I can just lift it up through center console and remove the weeds!
I enjoyed watching your video !
Thanks for watching - I’m glad you enjoyed it!
Crazy this doesn’t have more views
Thank you - this comment means a lot! I’m hoping the views and subscribers will come as long as I continue to work hard! It also doesn’t hurt that I love doing this stuff anyway. Thanks for watching!
I've never seen a boat that has pedals on it like that, now your hands are free to keep fishing, thats very clever!
I was amazed the first time I saw one too. They are a complete game changer for fishing hands-free!
Which swamp is this?
This is close to the Atchafalaya!
What’s your camera and drone set up? The footage looks great man!
Thanks for watching! I'm glad you enjoyed the footage. It's been a real challenge to learn filming/editing and I'm always working to improve the quality of these videos. -Camera: the vast majority of this was filmed on a GoPro hero 10, and then I also have just begun to utilize a Sony a7 iii -Drone: DJI Mini 4k My next goal is to figure out a way to get better audio for my vocals!
What’s the most important thing you’ve ever forgotten on a camping trip?
The RV 🤣
Oh no 😂 that’s almost as bad as forgetting you’re boat/kayak when going fishing, which I have never done…
I went to Lena Lagoon recently and was heartbroken to see that they are fillling all the canals and ponds you're fishing SE side of the lagoon.
Man, that is sad to hear. Any idea why/what's going on?
@theangriestangler It's part of the million dollar St. Bernard marsh restoration project that's been in the works for years, but just recently started in the 2020's. We "lost" some ponds at Shell Beach behind the rocks, lots of area west and south of the Delacroix marinas and now all marsh around Lena Lagoon. It's great that they're working on reclaiming land, but sucks that we lose sight fishing spots.
@@JohnNguyen4 Yeah kind of a double edged sword. Gonna be better in the long run, but especially hard on kayakers. Looks like I'll really have to run that trolling motor next time to get to some good marsh!
Lots of action. I hope you get a keeper next time. Bummer about the phone. Looking forward to the overnight trip. Fish on 🎣 💪🏻
Honestly I’m just still so grateful to that couple for helping me. I went out last weekend and finally caught some keepers, although not enough action for a full video. Thanks for watching!
Stick your phone in a bag full of rice for a day, usually does the trick
Man, I wish. I tried that but I think it was too late. Unfortunately it worked for a while and I thought it was fine so didn't use rice, but after a few days there was some water inside that got to the motherboard and fried it.
Have you had any luck with Speckled Trout this season so far?
Love those spotted bass in the creeks. Usually always are willing to bite and fight hard. Great video!
@@Eightmile_Drifter I had a great time catching them! I hope to catch some bigger ones next time. Thanks for watching!
Fish are lazy af, basically any structure where they can back into they will. Cool video, keep em' coming.
Thanks for watching! You're right-fish definitely love finding those cozy spots to hang out. Glad you enjoyed the video, and I’ll keep the content coming. Tight lines!
great video. is this the 2024 version flint?
Thanks for watching! This is a 2022 model
That was a very good video! Hope it gets lots of views. Great to experience new areas and a new style of fishing. Well done. I did a little river fishing in Virginia when I lived there - smallmouth bass and some pretty good moving water. Fun and challenging. Might have to try that up around the Pontchartrain area soon. Keep it up and good luck ahead! Meanwhile I’m trying a new area in SE Texas and loving it!! Some good success. Cheers!
Thanks man! Definitely a change of pace from my norm, but I need to get back on the redfish soon. I hear this is one of the best times of year for them. I'd say you should try it out! You have been fishing some awesome areas for redfish and specs - makes me wanna get a popup camper!
Awesome time for the scenic rivers now, low and super clear. Looking forward to the camping trip :)
I was amazed with how nice it was out there. Felt like I was in another state. I'm hoping to camp in the marsh this upcoming weekend if weather is good, and then I'll be camping here next!
@@theangriestangler Louisiana has a few scenic river and creeks like this, just most people don't fish them! North Louisiana has some very nice creeks near Alexandria in that state forest.
@@LouisianaBlackwaterFlyFishing I'm hoping to catch some bigger fish once I float through some of the less pressured parts of the river!
Is that St Francisville???
Where in Louisiana is this? Where did you launch the kayak? Great video
What type of fish do you think I saw at 08:32 ??
I was gonna say a sturgeon but in the river?!
@@yakkaboy Man, that's what it looks like to me too, but I never would've guessed they would be in that area.
@@theangriestangler I have a video that shows a sturgeon in the lake! I didn't see it in real-time but my gopro caught it! I would've NEVER believed they were in there. Oddly enough, it almost looks differently than gulf sturgeons so I am not sure lol!
Paddle fish maybe?
@@JCadventurerides Man you might be right! I just looked it up and that looks spot on.
Nice job! You had me worried when you were grabbing for that lure bare handed. Awesome catch
Thanks man! I definitely got a bit too caught up in the moment lol. Idk if you could hear me mumbling to myself due to the audio quality, but I was going “this is dumb Josh, you’re dumb don’t do that.” 🤣
Heck yeah I caught a gar that size on a ultralight recently and fought it for twenty minutes. That was a regular far what you caught there was an alligator gar. They have a wider mouth
It’s always fun catching big fish on ultralight! I’d love to catch one like this with lighter gear someday. I know a lot of people around here get mad when they catch gar but this fish put up an incredible fight.
What kind of kayak is that ? Looks like a Hoodoo Tempest ?
@@rayhamilton1337 Native Slayer Titan Propel 10
Are you fishing in south Louisiana?
Yessir! I typically like to go a bit further south toward the shell beach area, but did not wanna risk it with Helene still causing higher than normal winds here. Thank you for watching!
@@theangriestangler Thanks for the response.
What’s the longest you’ve ever fought a fish for?
about an hour and a half 40lb drum on 15lb mono on my bass rod!
@@imadough Man, that's so awesome! I was using 10lb mono leader to 20lb braid on this trip. This was my longest fight so far. I'd love to hook into a big bull redfish soon and fight it for an hour lol. I wish I could've got a weight on the gar. Thanks for watching!
@@theangriestangler id say at least 55lb man just comparing it to you kayak 💯 and just from ones iv seen. This look likes the bayou i work near
What kind of kayak is that ? Looks like a Hoodoo Tempest ?
@@rayhamilton1337 it’s a Native Slayer Titan Propel 10 Thanks for checking out the video!
I don’t fish tournaments, so don’t feel the need to get one, I thought about it, but I do enjoy the exercise of paddling and feel like with the motor I would just rely on it way too much, it would be like fishing a mountain stream, and taking an escalator to the next hole instead of enjoying the hike. Sure I’d catch more fish but miss so much more? I’m 66 and need to keep the body moving
That's a good point. I just got a pedal drive and feel like I move around more easily but still get plenty of exercise. Might be worth looking into!
Those reds and bass were loaded in that marsh. Pretty cool fishing by that fort. Just subscribed, great video!
It was a good day of fishing. I can't wait to go back and crab off of the rocks by that fort. Thanks for watching and subscribing. I really appreciate it!
I have both pedal and motor.
What do you prefer? I’m actually upgrading to a pedal drive this weekend hopefully
i often fish the same area but launch at fort pike. it would be triccky to get to that canal across the channel in a kayak lol. gotta work your way back towards the train bridge and intercoastal waterway. tons of fish out that way
Thanks for the tip, I'll have to check that area out. I have been wanting to try launching from fort pike so maybe next time. I appreciate you watching!
A better way to revive them is to work them back and forth by the tail, and they don't croak they make a drumming sound which becomes a deeper bass as they get older. Hence the name Red Drum.
Thanks for the info! While reviewing/editing this video I was very unhappy with the way I released those redfish. One of the benefits of filming your fishing trips is getting to notice stuff like that! I spent a good deal of time looking into proper release and most of the stuff I found said to let the water flow through their gills for a bit while slightly moving back and forth, and then right before you're ready to release them hold onto their tail and make sure they have enough life to push away from you. I'm gonna make an effort to do better with releases moving forward. These are my favorite species to catch and they deserve to be respected, especially if not catching to eat. I appreciate you watching and sharing your knowledge!
Subscribed , enjoyed every second ! Tight lines sir
I really appreciate that, and glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching, and tight lines to you as well.
Would you be interested in watching me go on overnight adventures?
Lol camping overnight in the middle of the marsh, you're a braver man than me
@@euh34dsh07 lol, I’m sure I’ll be freaking out my first few times until I get used to it. Hopefully I can find a spot with a little more land than the location shown in the video. Thanks for taking the time to check the video out and comment!
i live near there, id be down to meet up and show you some spots out there
Thanks fort watching, I really appreciate the comment! We’ll have to link up one day soon! I heard the speckled trout are starting to move in. Do you know of any places in the area where you can camp out overnight by any chance? That’s what I’m really trying to do more of
@@theangriestangler i went the passed few weekends in my hobie, the trout n reds have been in. camping with a camper/rv?
@@JustJoshinYaBro That's good to hear! Lol, I was supposed to go this morning actually but my fiancé was sick so I didn't sleep too good. I've actually been trying to find locations to camp more off-grid in a tent. I wanna do some survival challenges and catch and cooks.
@@theangriestangler not too sure around slidell, maybe join some louisiana fishing groups and post asking about camps to pop up a tent. theyre usually helpful, sometimes trolls but its the internet🤷🏽♂️ i know of a sandbar in pearlington on the pearl thats big enough to camp out on and can fish both salt and fresh
the groups are on facebook sorry i left that out
What area are you fishing ?
I did pretty good there a couple weeks ago. Was tough fishing with so much grass but I did good with a spinner bait pulling grass off at every cast. Uhhhg! Funny, I set up a weedless fluke too thinking the same as you. only had a couple bites on it though. Thanks for the video.
Yeah it's hard fishing with all that grass but it keeps fishing pressure down I'd bet. Biggest downside with the fluke is that you have to fish it slow. I found I catch just as many on a 1/4 gold spoon while being able to cover water more quickly and still not picking up a lot of grass Thanks for watching. I hope you enjoyed the video!
What kayak do you use?
I use a NuCanoe Flint. IMO it's the best beginner budget fishing kayak out there
what area is this? what part of Louisiana? great video - enjoyed it.
Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for watching multiple videos! This area is pretty close to NOLA!
what area was this?
pretty sure i know where that is, redfish heaven but also plenty of gators there so be careful. weightless works well since a lot of that area is no more than 1-2feet deep. having a push pole is awesome out there!
Absolutely redfish and gator heaven! I stupidly thought I’d be fine stepping out for a second in 2 inch water, but I think the heat had gotten to me lol, because of course I should’ve realized I’d sink into that mud! I think a push pole would be a great idea. I may try that next time. Thanks for the tip!
Wow keren ini perlawanan ikan nya
Glad you enjoyed it! These redfish sure do always put up a great fight.
Did you know the weightless fluke was a good redfish lure? I think this may be my new go to lure for redfish!
I don’t freshwater fish often. Looks like a lot of fun. It’s just a matter of time before you get the big one!
@@michaelpatrick1077 thanks for watching! I definitely like saltwater more, but it’s such a long drive for me. I hope I catch a big bass soon!
Awesome video! On pressured ponds I always downsize my lures to ultralight size. Like Mule Fishing jack worms and burro bugs on 1/16 oz jigheads. Usually get hit when no one else is.
Thank you for watching-glad you enjoyed! I have been wanting to try out burrow bugs. I plan on doing some ultralight videos soon.
Where are these ponds? Great video
Thank you for watching and commenting. When I first started this channel I shared my fishing locations quite a bit. However, even with the small following I have this has led to some uncomfortable situations where people have attempted to meet up with me while I’ve been out fishing without even contacting me when I don’t even know them. I really value my privacy, and although I would absolutely love for fans to say hello and even ask questions when we both happen to be out on the water, it does make me uncomfortable to be approached and talked to as if we made plans to fish together when we have not ever spoken. Due to this, I no longer feel comfortable sharing where I fish. I hope you understand and still find value/entertainment watching, and I appreciate you checking the video out!
You can never beat a drop shot! Wish I would’ve learned about it years ago.
Thanks for watching man! I have been meaning to try out a drop shot. I might make a video trying this rig out for the first time soon.
