  • I finally got back out camping after a back injury stopped me in my tracks. It was a long rough night in a tiny tent but I'm delighted to be back at it.

The trick with those ration heaters is to make sure the water is covering the heating element when laying down. Otherwise just boil the water in your normal pot and put the boil-in-the-bag right into the water. Next...put the cheese spread on the tortilla's and put the beef into that, roll it up like a burrito!

So good 2see you out and about again Jason, and glad that your back seems much better!
Don't know what happened, but only got this video last night, and as soon as I watched it; your other last three videos came up in my feed (for the first time)??? Dont know why that happened, but the same thing happened with Miriam's last post, was ages after she posted before it popped up in my feed!?!?
Anyway, I watched your last four posts last night, but then had internet problems; so I've had to wait until this morning to reply. I'll comment individually on each post (does it help the channel, the more comments you receive, or is it just about "likes" I've no idea??).
Love your new tent, by the way; though as you say, probably not the best for making your videos in..haha! And that a tent like that has problems with its seams..hmmm..I hope the chap who sold it to you, didnt "lift your leg" and sold it to you for a fair price.
Things move forward, I understand that. And as campers/walkers/backpackers its perfectly natural to try and make life as comfortable as possible.
However, many of these kind of posts end up being more "gear porn" than about just being outside.
And when I saw you back..with your new jacket, your new chair, your new tent and new (very expensive) quilt..My first thought was..Nooooo..Jason, dont do it! Dont be lured by commercialism..haha!
Luckily, as I watched the video, I saw that it was just you; coincidentally with some new gear. You did give a jokey shout out about your new purchases; obviously some folk out there do like to hear that stuff; (me too, sometimes)..but I was so very glad to see that the main point of the post was you, just being outside, and enjoying the hell out of it!(Huge sigh of relief..haha)
I personally think that that is what sets your channel apart from so many others. You're not the big "I am"..you're not some camping expert, who knows all. You're just a normal bloke, who likes being outside and likes to share that.
I like the feel of your wonderful posts, that kind of innocent.."I'm just making this up as I go, and having a great time doing so"..I think that's what sets your posts apart.
I hope that you dont feel I'm doing you a disservice in saying this; it's only my opinion (so is meaningless in the end) because I mean it completely in a complimentary way. It is a positive thing from my perspective.
On the technical side, you're definitely a good photographer, and have a good eye. You're posts are innovative because of your genuine "every man" approach, coupled with a natural charm and your fun outgoing nature; that doesn't take itself at all too seriously.
Anyway, I'm Rambling on..haha..Just great to see you again Jason. After watching all your last four posts in succession last night; I realized just how much I'd missed your posts and your cheery disposition..haha..I'm just glad you're back buddy!

    • @RamblingOn
      @RamblingOn  ปีที่แล้ว

Sorry Tim, I have no idea why that happens but it's not the first time I have heard that. I suppose it's something to do with youtubes algorithm.
Every like and comment helps massively. Also retention is a big one so the longer you can stick listening to be ramble on about gear the better it is for the channel 😄
Oh no don't worry he is sound.. I researched the tent extensively before I even started looking for one. I am just happy that I seam sealed the main seams. If the tent was a bit higher it would have made filming so much easier. I could have got out more for some exterior bad weather shots but it was just a nightmare to move in and out of.
My jacket is so old the only thing keeping that water proof is NikWax 🤣 I only bought the tent because I had one fail on me and I had to bail as a result, I was lucky to find it second hand. The chair and the quilt were back injury related. I just have to keep the weight as low as I can and the chair I would rather do without but I have to have it.
Basically any gear that I buy is bought for the purpose of allowing me to keep getting out on the hills and not to show off all my fancy gear. It's just gear that works for me.
I don't mind you saying it all, I do worry that people might get the wrong idea. Just because I have some expensive items does not mean that everyone needs them to go and enjoy the outdoors. It's just bits of gear that I have invested in and will use for many many years. Check back in ten years time, everyone of those items will have multiple repairs. They will be held together with tenacious tape and a bit of luck 😄
Cheers Tim, I have big plans going forward so hopefully I'll be out even more than last year and I will be taking the camera along too. Take care and I'll chat to you soon 👍⛺

I'm like you, my favourite part is just sitting back, pitch black, looking at the stars and no signal. I know having a signal would be beneficial but what I tend to do is kind of see while I'm filming when I'm down to my last signal, send a quick text to say I've arrived and that I'm out of signal. Then I can just relax, get warm, eat some food and switch off. We don't get much chance to do it so grab it while you can. However, I do have TH-cam premium and download my favourite videos and watch in the tent while offline. What was that sleeping bag? I need a news one, as well as a winter mat. The sleeping arrangements were a thermarest xtherm in the large size and a UGQ Bandit quilt rated to -6. I'm very happy with that so far, I have used it in colder conditions since and it has been really good. This was my first time to use a quilt so I can't say whether they're worth it or not. It depends what you want it for, I needed to cut as much weight as possible and dont like being constricted by a sleeping bag.
Once you add in the customs tax it does make it pretty expensive. It would have been cheaper for me to buy a rab ascent 1100 🙈

Yeah they're pricey when you have to buy in bulk like that but it's worth trying them. I'll definitely get more and try the other menus. The Jetboil will be class, something to look forward to and an excuse to get out 😁

Really enjoying your videos, but I do worry about you being so laid back. I'm afraid you might wake up one morning and decide to just stay there and make another cup of tea, and another cup of tea, and........

This is exactly why one cannot take too much tea camping. I came close to running out once, scared me, always take 10x the amount of tea I think I'll be needing now

If I ever get my hands on a hot tent that I can sit up in and once there's enough tea and biscuits to keep me going.. Well then, it could very easily happen that I forget to leave 😄
