Powerade used to have a commercial campaign where they would do fake videos like this. One where Andy Roddick serves the ball so hard, it goes instantly flat and doesn't bounce. One where Michael vick was throwing the ball over 100 yards. One where Lebron was hitting full court shots like they were free throws.

It also had nothing to do with the Triple-A Fresno baseball team. This happened in a REAL MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL game between the Grizzlies and another PRO team.
I saw this happen in a REAL Major League Baseball game back in the 1980's when it happened. I was watching the game on TV AND IT'S REAL. It was NOT made for a "Gatorade commercial."
So yeah, that's how old it is: over 30 years old. And I saw it happen LIVE, in a REAL game.
My understanding is that it was late USED in a Gatorade commercial, but it was not staged or faked IN ANY WAY BECAUSE I SAW IT HAPPEN WITH MY OWN TWO EYES DURING A REALY MLB GAME. Whoever started the LIE and the MYTH that this was set up and faked for a "Gatorade commercial" is a LIAR and an acshole.

"Mr. PAUL KENNEDY (Director, Media and Public Relations, Fresno Grizzlies): Thank you very much for having me.
SIMON: So how does she make such a spectacular leap, and how did this happen to be taped?
Mr. KENNEDY: Well, it was filmed as part of a national television ad campaign for a major beverage company that has since fallen by the wayside, I believe. The campaign, not the company. A production company came in in mid-April to Chukchansi Park here in Fresno. They filmed our game, and then they worked through the night to get this stunt choreographed and pull it off. But the star of the show was a stunt woman.
SIMON: And as I understand it, she had some technical assistance, didn't she? Like Peter Pan flying.
Mr. KENNEDY: Well, a little bit. This was actually a pretty low-tech stunt. She was strapped into a harness, and there were two ropes attached to that harness that went up above the wall where two other stuntmen were standing. And when she jumped, they basically just kind of tugged on the ropes and gave her a little bit of an extra boost. And she was athletic enough to pull it off and sell it as a real catch."

There is something so heartwarming about seeing amateurs get a hero moment in front of professionals. The bashful smiles are absolutely endearing. I lobe this kind of thing.

This much is true: on April 17, the Fresno Grizzlies hosted the Tacoma Rainiers in an evening contest at Chukchansi Park. And at some point in the ballgame, Tacoma's Brent Johnson came to the plate against Victor Santos and lofted a deep fly ball down the left-field line.
What didn't happen (at least not in real life) is the catch itself. The ball girl was a stunt woman, working on behalf of an advertising production agency that was filming a Gatorade ad. However, this particular campaign was scrapped before the commercial could make it to the airwaves. The ad was leaked online instead, where it quickly became a viral video sensation.

@@craigh.9810 It APPEARED in a commercial... but so have many real plays in the past. Just because a commercial showed it, doesn't mean it was created FOR the commercial. That is an awful lot of paid extras in the crowd for it to be for just a commercial. Especially when you have people attesting to have attended that game and seen the play themselves... and yet I have not seen a single person attest to having seen a film crew setting up, extras being hired, or anything to indicate this moment was fabricated.
Sports (and sports products) ads often use real footage in their commercials. Far cheaper to do, and there is already thousands upon thousands of hours of footage to draw from.
The last catch by the ball girl was simply one of the coolest things I have recently seen.
It's also fake. I think it was originally an (also fake) Nike ad with somebody else and a minor team recreated it for a TV spot. Neat play though. But yeah, hate to be the spoilsport, it's fake.
The best real snags are Scotty for the A's stretching out and the Padre's ballgirl going way up in the beginning. It's front loaded.

So the last catch is quasi fake. It was shot for an ad, but apparently the girl did actually do the stunt and catch the ball, but it wasn't off a hit or anything. Like they just tossed it up there and then edited to look like it was from a hit or at least that is what I can tell from the limited snooping on the internet I did.
