    Good test Andrew and confirms what I have experienced in my own game. I actually benefit from using a 44" driver shaft and have done so for years. Doing so causes little to no distance loss but allows for better control.

      Thanks for the feedback Michael, beyond me why manufactures cut the drivers to such long lengths.

      @@andrewainsworth497 I suspect manufacturers have found the psychological sweet spot with shaft length. A longer shaft is marginally longer insofar as an an occasional shot which is psychologically satisfying but on average is no better than a shorter shaft. Longer shafts just sells more product and this is why they are in business.

    You give me hope. I have taken up golf again after many years. I purchased off the shelf Taylor Made clubs. I am totally struggling with every club. I thought I might need a better driver so I purchased a $400 club, I did worse with it than the stock Taylor. It is like I am using someone else clubs every time I go out. Hitting the ground, trying anything and everything including lessons. Finally I went back to the store and requested them to measure and shorten the clubs. I am 5'5" and feeling like I had was using my big brothers clubs. Unfortunately, the answer I got from the store employee after hitting a few balls in front of them was to choke up, there I have saved you some money go practice that stance.
    I left, I know you were talking club length but finding that sweet spot at 5'5" is much different than 6" I am not going to grow so the shaft must go! Thank you

    Great video Andrew,next time I play I'm going to swap over the driver/3 wood shafts in my mizuno st200,as there both the same shaft the results should be interesting

    Nice to have you back. I always enjoy your common sense approach. I use a Cobra Speed at 45 in. I did not loose much distance but I do hit more fairways. I also tried 44 1/2 in but did not really like the results as much as the 45 in. Thanks again

      Hi Chuck, 45" is a ideal length for control and distance.

    Hey Andrew, good to see you back on YT, I hope all is well.
    Your vid pretty well confirms my own findings. As an example, the last Driver I bought "off the shelf" on impulse was the PING G400 MAX with their standard 453/4" shaft length and although it's a high MOI Driver I was hitting everything out of the heel and virtually every shot was going Right and some WAY RIGHT. So I asked my Pro/Coach at the time to trim the shaft for me, back to my preferred 45" and the immediate difference was remarkable! Straight away the Right ball flight was much straighter, I started hitting the centre of the clubface and gained 15-20 yards of Distance!!!!!
    I was amazed at the difference 3/4" made, so these days I always stick to a max length of 45" in my Drivers, I'm not the longest driver but I do play most (not all) of my 2nd shots from the fairway👍

    Hi Andrew, I play the G425 Max in standard length but with a 20 gram weight instead of the standard 26 gram weight. Being a slow clubhead guy @ < 90 mph, I find the lighter swingweight easier to swing and manage. I tend to grip about 1/2 to 3/4 down the grip and I get decent dispersion and no appreciable loss of distance.
    Cheers Ken

    I switched shafts after going to fitter Club Champion. I went from 45” to 44”. Dispersion a little better but lost distance and never got comfortable with the change. Went back to 45” after getting an extension put in and new grip. Like it better at 45”. Maybe for others a strong 3 wood (13 degree loft)would work for them better to fix that slice but better yet learn and inside out swing path. If you go to a shorter shaft your swingweight will get lighter so that needs to be fixed to.

    Great video. Recently made swing changes and found several clubs running together distance wise and so I have found using a 4 wood is better than a 3 and 5 wood. Doing so created another spot in the bag so I am looking at playing 2 driver setups with one being a low lofted lighter longer shaft and a more stable higher lofted shorter shafted driver. Figure to hit driver at least 10 or so times a round and really not enough difference in them to carry two fairway woods.

    Hi Andrew, hope the golfing break went well and you played great. At my home course, if I hit fairways then I score really well. If I miss fairways I find myself playing sideways and scoring like a crippled camel so yes, I would happily give up 10m to hit four or more extra fairways. After all, it's only one iron difference for the second shot so no drama at all. That said, maybe the "straightness" of the shorter shaft would last only a few rounds before reverting to waywardness.

    I think shorter shafts play better with the driver. Ego says lets go very long shafted. Smart says lets shorten up for better control. Often with better control you can hit just as far maybe even more.

    The Driver shaft is of great importance but not for the reason of length, in my opinion. The main reason is what kind of shaft you have, that is, you have to gett fitted properly. Never ever buy a Driver off the shelf. With the shaft suited for your swing you will consistently square the club face at impact.

    • @andrewainsworth497

      Hi Thomas, thanks for the comments, very important to get fitted and try various shafts as they vary in performance.

    I bought a slightly shorter staff / driver recently 44.5 in x-stiff, it's going significantly less far as my regular flex 45.5 club that's 10+ years old. I thought the new driver tech would have helped, but I think it's just poorly fitted to me. Not sure what to fix.

      @@andrewainsworth497 No idea, but I can hit it over the net at the driving range on the old club, but the new one just rolls up to the net, and pulls left often. I ended up selling the new off on market place.

    You swung slower with the long shaft, 2 and a half inch with same effort would be at least 20 yards, if what your sayings true the long drive guys would not use 48 shafts, they would just stick a 3 wood shaft in lol

    • @paulnutbrown9836
      @paulnutbrown9836 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wrong, it's diminishing returns, if I gave you a shaft 70 inches long you couldn't swing it at 65mph lol, the long drive guys are not your regular guys, they swing normal length drivers at 150mph...in genaral as shafts get longer normal swing speeds become slower because it's too long

  • @paulnutbrown9836
    @paulnutbrown9836 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Obviously you went harder at short shaft, all been equal effort from you long shaft has to travel faster fact
