I've always used a large heat plate on arrival and never lost a chick... Never even thought it was a thing

Do you recommend shavings at the beginning upon arrival? Or do you recommend pee pads?

I suck at tech, I cruised your website and couldnt find a place to praise you! Just got my Wellsommers today and they are awesome! Ordered 15, got 17! They took to the food and water instantly, and most of them like me already! Thank you all for your efforts, this line will be rebred at least till Im gone!
    5 STARS!

I use heat lamps during winter and nothing in summer
But I have a big box and they can move away from heat bulbs and I watch temp in box also

It really makes a big difference. I have always done this when ordering for my broody hens. I put them in the brooder with a heatlamp for several days with electrolytes and vitimans before i ever give them to the hen.

We ordered from cackle hatchery twice and if you live far from Missouri I wouldn’t recommend ordering them because we had six dead on arrival in about 14 die in 24 hours which was really sad but we kind of just had to push through it so if you live far from Missouri or not even not in your country I I would not order from them but if you live pretty close to Missouri you can order from them they’re a pretty good brand well not brand but like you know what I mean but the good thing is we got a refund so they do try to make things right but you don’t see that every day

Very helpful, thank you! I wish I'd known this last year when I lost a lot of chicks (from another hatchery) that only had a brooder hotplate for warmth.

Got my first baby chicks ever. Thank you Cackle Hatchery! Soooo cute. I love these little guys. I ordered 5 bantam chicks and you guys sent me 7. Unfortunately two perished, but the 5 remaining are doing great. Thank you again. God bless

I am excited to get my chicks they are shipping out wed. Thank you for the information about heaters. I did get the red bulb. I also got electrolytes and probiotics packs from stockdales for baby chicks. When can I introduce them to braggs apple cider vinegar in there water?

I found heat plates a few years ago, I always have used both at the same time, and they just naturally kinda gravitate to the plates on their own after about a week or so, at least in my experience. Good to know I been doing it right. I really like the energy cost savings of the plates over the bulbs, I try to use the bulb as little as needed..

Thank you Jeff on the clarification of heat types. This will be my first year trying a heat plate in a 50 degree-ish garage.
I've always been nervous running a 250w heat lamp after a week as the chicks get extremely active with scratching the pine shavings etc.
