Much of the concepts in live are the baseline for voice over. I myself am looking to break into voice work myself and complied a playlist of references for voice work and ethics in the craft. @@Ashton_cupcakex Awesome sauce! 1) Think "do", not "pretend" Honestly, with any form of acting, you gotta summon those genuine emotions and feelings from a real place to have it come through the performance. If the character is angry in the scene, be angry! 2) Basics can be good Your normal voice is gonna be your regular tool, so be sure you practice and train it well for different scenarios and emotions. From there, pitch up and down and play with how to modify it. How low can you comfortably go? How high? How squeaky? 3) Play with range Once that range is established, try reading a bunch of neutral scenes or lines in those different ranges with different inflictions. See how the subtext changes. ex. "Oh. I didn't think you would show up." "Well, I'm here now." 4) Network and work for work The last bit that I’ll give for now is to find the outlets that will get you using your voice. Self-directed skits and dubs can be fun, but might also be time consuming and limited. Look for some projects locally from students or online in theatre/drama-related forums that have castings calls. You get yourself familiar with enough folks, they come back with roles they think can be a good fit for you or postings of calls you might like. Creating a proper demo reel will help with this too, so when you get the chance (or become of age) craft one and have it ready to send. As one person put it in a intro to voice over video, "You are working for work that pays." I myself am trying to network and sign up to projects that will get me to use my voice, so be prepared to hear “no” a few times. Despite that, the space is large enough that you are bound to get replies and you have time being young, so starting small and working your way up is just fine. Don’t give up and push forward! (I ought to follow that advice myself) Also, there is a tech element that is important to the process. I’d recommend seeing how far you get with the USB mic for small hobby projects, but you’ll hit a ceiling quick going pro. XLR microphones should be a consideration going forward, so maybe start a saving jar for that.
