Showcasing (most of) the Models I've Built! (before they go into storage)

  • Over the past few years I have been fortunate enough to build quite a few models. Sadly I am running out of space and am now forced to put them into storage, so why not take a look at them one last time before I put them all away?

Super Glue is best due it's inherent properties that are superior in a few aspects to plastic weld glues.
1: The glue can easily be removed using a de-bonder agent so as to repair or rebuild the kit when skills improve.
2: It's shear strength is weak allowing a dropped model to survive the impact by breaking at the glue joints not at the weak spots on the parts that hits the surface (Which happens with model glued parts). This way for example the wheel will snap off at the glue joint not at the weaker strut part thus requiring a major fix.
3: When paint skills get better you can easily and safely disassemble the entire model, strip the old paint then re-glue it and repaint it again, multiple times if desired.
4: Model glue works by melting the joints together requiring significant work to get apart and usually ends up damaging the surrounding joints. Stronger but more permanent making rework next to impossible in some instances.

Most of my planes are still packed away; I bought a big bag of polystyrene beads made for beanbags and poured them over the kits as I stacked them in large storage boxes. Hopefull they are all still intact, and maybe one day the wife will let me display them!

That is a good idea! I've heard some people use cereal because it is cheap (but can be dusty)

Ive just done my third kit, moving away from revell and got a tamiya kit, and comparing it to my first model i can already see my steep learning curve, and abunch of mistakes done with my first kit, and its always nice to compare your first kits to your latest, showing all the progress you've made, just like with your hurri in the end of the vid.
Im planning in getting an academy kit for my 4th model.

Very cool! It's good to have a selection of kits from different companies

That's why Super glue is best method, super easy to strip the old paint and debond the glue by just a dip in the purple pond. Then you can rebuild and paint the kit as many times as you desire. PLastic glue is stronger but usually impossible to break down and re do anything and far less resistant to fall damage than super glue which has the low shear strength and the dropped pieces snap at the glue joint not the weaker parts like struts and props.

The south wales spitfire museum have a lovely selection of models on display people have donated. It’s also the first time I saw a Hampden in 1/72 scale and amazingly airfix just re-released it in there vintage range so that’s on my hitlist now

Hey mark, you should give another try on that p-47 revell kit, I'm sure you'll do a better job. You should also fix the old one and compare both to see the evolution of your skill in the hobby, would be a pretty cool video...

I've actually got 2 more of those kits, I wanted to do 2 of the included paint schemes :)

@@ModelMinutes That's great! If you plan to make a video, one of those should be the maximum effort test, airbrushed, weathered and all, preferably the one in the same paint scheme as the older one, would be great to see your reaction comparing both, you've got much better!

I'm in the stage you were making that hurricane, 12 years old with little experience but my ho229 is decent since i was watching your videos in the background. If only you old people had youtube, you'd accomplish great models at young ages.
