Kind of funny when you think that (rumored) Spaceballs was greenlighted at the condition that they would not sell movie merchandise to not take part of the market from Star Wars (that's why there is so much "spaceballs merchandise" inside of the movie.

That whole scene in Spaceballs was thanks to George Lucas as well. When they asked him if he was okay to parody Star Wars he let them do it as long as they agreed there would be no Spaceballs merchandise... Mel Brooks put the merchandising scene in the movie as a joke about that.

1: Either George gets his cut.

      a) half-baked recycled versions of their old animated movies
      b) movies that force a marxist agenda down the viewers throats
either way both of those are VERY bad for business, not to mention the Higherups at Disney allowing Lucasfulms to attack anyone who criticizes them, that's why Disney deserves to "rot in the deepest pits of poverty."

I'll have to check that vid out because to my knowledge the Darth Maul game was still in development when Goerge sold Star Wars and they (disney/Lucasfilm) were the ones who shut it down. Same with 1313 and TFU3 (TFU3 having still been in the storyboard stage at the time) The only game I've ever heard of that got canned before release when still under George's control was Pandemic's Battlefront 3 which LucasArts stopped paying for and abandoned when the game was already like 99% finished. And that was likely due to the game constantly getting pushed back as the devs tried to add more and more. Its release date was originally 2009 but got pushed back to 2010, than '11, and finally 2013 when it got canned. In fact, LucasArts pulling out of that deal was what killed the studio if I'm not mistaken. They sold out to EA since they were broke because of this and EA promptly shut them down to send their teams to other studios.

BTW: Lucas is a type 1 diabetic. You would think he would give the money directly to the hospitals/research instead of lining the pockets of Disney/Iger/Eisner etc. ---- Something does NOT smell right. Disney has already made / will hit about 10 billion dollars from the 5 films. - And they only paid 4 billion dollars. Sadly nothing new. Back in the 1890s, John Browning was the greatest firearms designer ever known. To this day, many guns made owe something to his innovations and some of his guns are still in production virtually unchanged. He used to sell his patents for lump sums, claiming no royalties. Companies like Remington and WInchester made millions off his designs he sold for just thousands. So, one day, he decides to ask WInchester to let him collect royalties instead on a couple of new semiautomatic weapon patents. WInchester said no, fearing the legacy costs. Browning, furious, finds other companies willing to pay him proper and makes millions for himself and those companies. WInchester suddenly finds it needs to get in on the new semiautomatic longarm market, but cannot do so without paying Browning royalties. So instead, they order a guy to make inferior and sometimes outright dangerous guns (one shotgun is nicknamed the Widowmaker) that don't work well JUST to avoid Browning's patents. Ain't corporate law amazingly fun???

    • @genericpersonx333

@Caliban777 It also is a reminder that CEOs and other management can outgrow the times. It is not as if the man that said no to Browning had always been a fool, but he was getting out of touch with the market at the time. Remington and Fabrique Nationale saw the value of accepting Browning's demands for royalties, but Winchester, despite its enormous wealth and success, missed the market trends because one man lacked the vision and his company didn't have the culture to override him. Check and balances matter, folks.

This makes so much sense now. This really explains the announcement in 2015 about "LEGENDS" being left out of the "Disney STAR WARS canon." It makes me feel better to know that Geoerge Lucas wasn't completely raped by the Disney deal. However, the damage done to the STAR WARS brand is now colossal.
I would love nothing more than to find out in a few years time that George's daughter, Katie Lucas, gets control of Lucasfilm and STAR WARS and declares "Disney STAR WARS" NOT CANON. Then take her father's treatments and make the TRUE STAR WARS: EPISODES VII, VIII, and IX.
Has anyone ever noticed that THE FORCE AWAKENS and THE LAST JEDI do not have the Episode numbers on the front of any of the physical media? I've always taken that as a sign.✌

TLJ Luke calls a light saber a "laser sword" wow that one sounded f'd-up, but makes sense in this context. Also in SOLO Chewie has a weird bandolier, C-3P0's red arm, the square dish on the Falcon. Things that clearly differentiate iconic G Canon elements from new D Canon. This makes sense out of all of it. And why when GL owned Lucasfilm Vader and the OT was all over Disney parks, but once they own SW, it all goes away?????

  • @lukemcinerny8220
    @lukemcinerny8220 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

The bulid your own lighsaber should of been done something like this:
There is a jedi path where you go to the jedi temple and undergo some basic training by Obi-wan or Yoda or Mace, you choose your color, learn about jedi philosophy, there are temple guards around, holocrons really set the vibe, the at the end you kneel and are touched on the shoulder and knighted then you get your saber.
The Sith path basically the same, set it in an old ruin or shrine, have Vader, Maul, Palpatine explain Sith philosophy, take part in some kind of dark ritual, then kneel and "What is thy bidding, my master." Done simple.
You could do this with a 30 to 40 minute turn around, and charge I don't know $250ish, but for that you get a great experience, a well made saber not the cheap crap they have now, and a holocron, and then there could be optional extras like robes etc.
Kids would loose their minds and so would a lot of adults lol, its not that hard to make something cool, Disney.
Other attractions could be a laser tag kind of thing where you fight as the rebels (the force only knows why you would choose that side but to each their own I guess lol) or the Empire as stormtroopers with the same thing where you have a short basic training and drill type of thing, then you get a blaster and the armor if you pay more maybe, same with the other side, really drive people to ant to buy your merch but make it of decent quality ffs lol.

I took my family the first week of Galaxy's Edge opening. I paid for the 5-day Park Hopper, stayed at the Disney Grand Hotel for $850 per night, but was only given a 4-hour reservation into GE? That was the first rip off. Then we get on the Falcon ride, and that was disappointing, too. It was ok, but nothing great. Then there's the merch...you can ONLY buy GE merch while you're inside GE. Other Disney merch can be bought anywhere else in the park, and also at World of Disney in Downtown Disney, but GE merch was only available inside GE. Another rip off. Oh, and they don't deliver purchased merch directly to your hotel room like they do in any of the other stores throughout Disneyland and California Adventures. Another rip off. The park price was also higher but we didn't feel like we got our money's worth. For the first time in 11 years, we're actually not planning on going back next year. Good job Disney, you fuct up Disneyland by not having canon planets or locations in GE, known characters walking around (except Chewie), but opted for 'new' locales not mentioned in any film? That was a huge fail. The adult cantina was cool but it's not something you'll go back to after the first visit. One cocktail cost me $20 and it was watered down. Another rip off. The whole experience was seriously lackluster and definitely not worth the ~$2000 per day that I paid (park entrance for 4, hotel, and food). I don't mind paying the money for my family to enjoy an annual Disney vacation, but we usually get close to our money's worth. But not this summer. I'm not keeping track, but I'm sure I've given Disney over $100k over the years.

Once upon a time in the 1970's a couple of wargamers, Gary Gygax, Dave Arnenson, and a few others expanded on their hobby creating the Dungeons&Dragons role playing game and launched the table top RPG hobby with their new company TSR. There are various takes on what happened next but Gary and Dave had a falling out and Dave Arnenson left [or was forced to leave] TSR and it was agreed he'd receive credits and royalties. Shortly afterwards TSR released Advanced Dungeons and Dragons, an expanded more rules heavy version of the original game. TSR and Gary did this so they did not have to pay royalties to Dave Arnenson.
I'll let that sink in a minute.
TSR continued to sell the original game and Arnenson had to file several lawsuits in 1979 to retain credits and royalties.
Just thought I'd share this very familiar story from another hobby of mine. Fortunately D&D survived and still flourished then, it's in more trouble today though due to an SJW infestation.

I live in Florida and work for a theming company. We fabricated the pod racer engine set up in the cafe/bar. The first thing I noticed when we arrived on site to install everything I was struck by how everything about Galaxy's Edge was nothing but the new Disney movies. Falcon, X-wing, etc. The second thing I noticed was that the whole attraction was all about selling you shit. Vendor booths were going to be everywhere selling Porgs and characters from the Disney movies. My boss is well connected in the theming industry and privy to "inside" info and at one time told me how WB went to Disney over their plan do build a Harry Potter theme park experience and they gave the mouse the first shot. The only caveat? J.K. Rowling had final say on everything. Disney scoffed at that and told WB that THEY know what they're doing and wouldn't allow Rowling to have final say in ANYTHING. WB packed up and went to Universal who said "No Problem". Fast foward and Universal/Harry Potter continues to break attendance records and Galaxy's Edge is dying a slow, miserable, expensive death.

Good old George is playing the long game here.
He sold high and after SW rots at the hands of Disney he buys low.
Then capitalize on the resurgent of interest.

I understand that it's a new Star Wars area, and I agree some OT characters cruising around would be nice but I feel like everyone who says "there's no original trilogy stuff" either hasn't been to Galaxy's edge or isn't a big enough fan to recognize all the original trilogy stuff that's all over the place.

I feel this is quite possible. Looks at Disney's SW materials in the parks before Galaxies Edge opened. There was a much better spread with displays and even Star Tours covering the entire saga as opposed to just the Sequel trilogy. In fact it was this way for decades prior to the 2012 buy out. But we know Disney they don't like to license what then can own and they don't like to out source what they can do in house. The only thing they don't like to do it seems have their own ideas.
But here is something else interesting to consider in this conspiracy of SW ownership. Gary Kurtz said around the time of the 20th anniversary of A New Hope that the reason for the Special Editions was because Fox wanted something extra beyond just re-releasing the films to get people back in theaters. Its also widely believed that the release of the SE and even Shadows of the Empire were a snowball build up strategy to help bank roll the The Phantom Menace. This I had all heard before but more recently a new rumor surfaced. An additional reason for the changes of the SE was because Marcia Lucas. If re-released in their pre-Specialized form Marcia would get a cut due to the arrangements in their divorce settlement. By changing the films, especially ANH which she had the biggest hand in, it blocked her from receiving payments from the films. It has been rumored that is also why we haven't seen the un-altered versions of the Original Trilogy.
So Disney doesn't want to pay Lucas for using stuff related to 1-6 and Lucas doesn't want to pay his ex for un-altered OT stuff.

The bottom line is there never should of been a sequel trilogy. ROTJ's ending to the Skywalker's was perfect, thus anything furthering that continuity was an utter cash grab. "There's a saying "If it isn't broke, don't fix it".

Great post. To add fuel to the speculation fire, the original plan at Orlando's Hollywood Studios was to insert an X-Wing/Tie Fighter dueling spinner ride, *the original* Cantina and an indoor Jedi Training Academy show (featuring Yoda at the end) into the area around Star Tours. Corporate shot that down, we got what we got. Theory makes a lot of sense--why the lightsaber shop doesn't sell traditional lightsabers, etc. Maybe even why it's uncopyrightable "blue milk" rather than "Bantha milk."

my husband and I were just discussing the lack of rides in the area... nothing at all for the younger kids, only 1 ride and then _everything_ is over priced merch push... i mean, all your kids are going to want their own light sabers, but not at $200 each.. families can't afford that after spending that much each for tickets, plus hotel and everything... seriously could have done a reskined toy story shooting range thing, or tea cups done as x wings and tie fighters or whatever.. a speeder bike racer.. bring Star Tours over to the area.. it's not hard to come up with ideas.. oh yeah.. and BRING BACK THE MUPPETS.. actually do something proper with that property...
