  • This is a video demonstration between the most common types of LNB's.
    The LNB serves multiple function and is the part of the satellite dish in which the coaxial cable that feeds your TV is connected.
    Once watching this video you should be able to tell the difference between the most common LNB types and identify the ones you're most likely to need for your own satellite system.
    LNB's in the demonstration:
    1x Universal LNB - 40mm collar size
    1x Universal Quad LNB - 40mm collar size
    1x Sky mini-dish Quad LNB - 38mm collar size
    1x Sky mini-dish Octo LNB - 38mm collar size
    1x Sky Q LNB
    1x Quattro LNB (which connects to the multi-switch amplifier)
    For more information on how to terminate a coaxial cable with a F connector which is required to connect to LNB's, watch this video:

    Hi, which would be the best LNB for my new 4K Freesat box? My old SKY + dish works, but I would like to upgrade it to a wide band LNB with 4 outlets. I will probably upgrade the mini dish to a 60cm one at the same time.

    We recently upgraded from a sky plus box to sky q, but as our dish is on the top of our roof, sky were unable to go to the dish to change the LNB for a sky q one, and our dish has 4 cables coming off it, so they installed a box in the loft, it has the 4 cables going in one side, 2 cables coming out the other. What exactly does this box do with the signal, and how does it work? Your video mentions something about a different mode for sky q? I'm now finally able to record sky programs, as the old sky box did not allow recording without a subscription (freesat) only.

    Hi.
    I had sky q installed, and when I did they made some changes to my dish (probably even changed the whole dish), I am thinking of replacing the LNB on it to a hybrid one so that I can run 2 other cables to my other room for free sat whilst maintaining the sky q connection in another room. Have you done a video where you have changed the LNB on a sky q dish? Is it the same procedure for all dishes?

    • @smartaerials9718

      Sorry no video at the moment. I will do one though! Yes you want to purchase a Hybrid LNB and install onto your existing dish. This is a simple job, only needs a small headed screwdriver. Providing you can get access to the satellite dish that is. Tom

    Hi Tom
    Thanks for the very helpful video
    I live in Guernsey where we have access to the same services as in the UK mostly.
    I have a network 4 tuner satellite receiver which works with Plex Server for recording and 9 TVs around the house. From watching your video I know that I need a quattro LNB & a 16 channel multiswitch. The longest run of cable would be less than 30m. I expect the cost of installation will far outweigh the cost of the kit so I'd prefer not to compromise on quality. Are there LNBs & Multiswitches that you'd recommend & could you ship them to Guernsey?

    Hi Tom
    I’m pulling my hair out at the moment. I’ve refurbed my house with new cables and equipment, quad LNB feeds a triax 16 way multi switch picking up 8 shielded wall plates with two cables apiece. When I plug in my humax freesat pvr into one room I get 100% strength and 90% quality signal. If I move the freesat box to any another room I get no signal found. Am I missing something obvious?

    Is the Quattro the same as unicable? My LGTV has one satellite input but an option in the menu for unicable. Does this mean I can watch and record at the same time and if so, which lnb would I buy, ideally to fit a sky minidish?

    • @smartaerials9718
      @smartaerials9718  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there, no it's not the same. We don't really use unicable in the UK (if that's where you are?). Usually to record you will need to connect a USB hard disc drive. If you have done this I advise setting the LNB setting to 'unviversal' on your LGTV. I hope this helps. Tom

      @@smartaerials9718 thanks for coming back. I am in the UK and have a standard quad lnb with Freesat and works fine and records fine but only while watching same channel (single cable input on the LG).
      I was just curious of the unicable option in the LG TV satellite menu and I recall the spec said twin sat tuner when I bought the TV, so I imagine they mean with unicable, as there's only one input.
      I only really use record function on this TV to pause and rewind live TV so I'm not too bothered, just like to play with all the available technology!

    • @mebo870
      @mebo870 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RandomShart In a Unicable or Unicable II / JESS there are small receivers, which receive the transponder and put it on another frequency over one coax for more satellite receivers.
      These are fixed frequencies, the receiver must then support unicable.
      For example
      1210 Mhz
      1420 Mhz
      1680 Mhz
      2040 Mhz

    • @daviniarobbins9298
      @daviniarobbins9298 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I am a bit late in replying. There are two different types of Unicable/Wideband LNBs. Lo 10.40 and Lo 10.41. UK Sky Q/Freesat 4K uses the Lo 10.41 Wideband LNBs. Europe uses Lo 10.40 Wideband LNBs. A European Wideband LNB will not work on a UK Sky Q/Freesat 4K receiver. If you are just planning to watch FTA and not get Sky then either Wideband LNB type is good to go. A Unicable 10.40 LNB will not work with a Sky Q/Freesat 4K receiver. You need a 10.41 Unicable or similar LNB. These LNBs with the exception of Sky Q LNBs won't fit a Sky Minidish(without an adapter).

It's common to mark up parts in our trade as there is a lot of dead time travelling between jobs. But £153 just for an Octo is very expensive.
