Go and read about the story of Karbala, and how the family of the prophet sacrificed their lives for the sake of God against the so called Muslims at the time who tainted Islam with their false beliefs. Saint John of Damascus hand was severed by the likes of Yazid bin Muawiyah, a tyrant at the time of Imam Hussain and he was the same person who severed the head of Imam Hussain, we know what martyrdom is and we uphold the true teachings of Islam through the family of the prophet which were divinely appointed.
