I bought my 2019 Triumph Scrambler 1200XC in June of 2020. It was a press fleet bike with 1850 miles on it, a full factory warranty, and 2/3 of the normal MSRP (I paid $9,999). Since then, I've racked-up over 26,000 trouble-free miles. Aside from normal consumables, I've had to change a battery and a fork seal (if you ever need to do a fork seal, you'll want to buy the Triumph tool for disassembly/reassembly. The $42 cost of the tool more than pays for itself in saved aggravation). As far as exhaust heat goes, it's there alright, but manageable. I de-catted my exhaust, and it lowered the radiant heat by about 50 degrees Fahrenheit. I live and ride in the desert southwest (southern California's Mojave Desert), and even in the summer heat, as long as I have some airflow from movement, I don't notice the heat coming off the bike. The bike handles like a dream on asphalt and does very well on hard-ball dirt. In sand much deeper than four inches the weight of the machine rears its head, and the bike becomes a handful. This may be more of an indictment of my riding ability (or lack thereof) than the ability of the Triumph. The first modification I did on my Scrambler was to apply a tail tidy. This also involves some low-profile metal housed turn signal indicators (especially in the rear, as a tail tidy will put the stock plastic signal indicators directly in the exhaust stream, and they will melt). I actually don't mind the TFT. I know that most people prefer more traditional gauges, but I rather enjoy the tech of the new Triumphs. I use Google Maps on my phone which is tethered to the TFT via Bluetooth, and I get turn by turn directions without having to mount my phone somewhere on the handlebars where it's exposed to the elements or in danger of falling off. My Triumph Scrambler 1200XC has yielded absolutely ZERO buyer's remorse, and if I had to do it again, I would buy it in a heartbeat.
Based on my further review of the XC vs XE, and the Missenden Flyer's review, and considering the more road-focused aspect of my motorbike use, I am leaning more towards the XC versus the XE. Initially I thought that the better kit on the XE would be better, I do reckon that I will rarely (if ever) take this bike offroad (other than to pitch a tent). Good to know, and thank you for your info, as I do hope to invest in this wonderful steed in approx 12 months :)
Actually, scrub that about the XC, found a 2nd-hand XE, and they're lowering the suspension for me, and I like it a lot :) Great for blasting around the back-roads around Lisburn, can't wait to do more exploring on it!
One of the reasons why I opted for the 900 is that I think they did a better job with some of the small details-for instance the analog speedometer, keyed ignition, the seat I quite like as well, and the aesthetics. The 1200 scramblers are more performance/utility oriented, but if they changed a few tiny things, they (the XC in particular in my opinion) could be nearly perfect street bikes. That said, people already love them. Almost every Triumph I have seen here in Columbus, Ohio is a scrambler of some kind. Just lovely bikes.
Sound is one of the most important elements of riding. The new audio recording equipment is an absolutely fantastic enhancement to your videos. Great choice 👍
Bought a new one a few months ago, traded in a T 120. Finally a bike that fits me good. At 6'4", bikes are sometimes uncomfortable to ride. Harleys seats are much to low, adventure bikes too ugly. I added luggage, heated grips, racks..finally a bike I can ride for hours. Kudos to Triumph
Got to say that camera angle (chest mounted GoPro) is the absolute best for showing off the bike. Not to mention the amazing sound from the engine. I love the fact you play long shots with just the sound of the bike and no voiceover or cheesy music… for us petrolheads it’s pure ASMR. ❤
Thank you for the nice video, thank you for the sound! I have a green XC, Euro 4 from 2020 and I can fully understand your fascination. I love my bike, I love the torque and the relaxing style of driving. Sometimes when I am cruising through Belgium I am driving long times without changing gears, the 4th can be used so widely. I have replaced the indicators, motogadget mo.blaze tens1 directly mounted next to the number plate, removed the senseless plastic part in order to have a really short tail. Our German TüV was fine with it :-) Finally let me say that I have mounted Mitas MT-09 because I am going offroad here and then, with the 21" front wheel you can go everywhere, even in sand. After many years and many bikes I have found "my" bike now and I am really happy!
Had my XC for just over a year and absolutely love it. The classic looks will never age and its a modders dream to add little touches to make it your own. I'm with you on the different greys though and in fact a lot of owners get many of the grey bits powder coated black. I can't see myself ever selling it to be honest.
I have the 2022 Triumph Scrambler 1200XC. The engine has a knocking noise when I start it, then it smooths out. Has your engine developed a knocking noise? If yes, what was it? Same here as you, I live this bike other than the knocking of course and would never sell it. This bike has everything. Technology, looks, power, adjustable suspension, looks, suspension travel, looks, 4.2 gallon tank, looks, tubes tires, spoke wheels, all LED lights, brakes like a spirt bike, cruise control, ABS, five ride modes, two display themes, auto contrast for day and night riding, and looks. The display offers so much information, more so than other new bikes. The fuel consumption data in particular is amazing. 52 - 55 miles per gallon average, pretty good for a 1200cc bike. But this engine knocking has to go. Triumph and the dealership are no help.
Very nice review, sir. Tubeless wheels are great to have. I cannot think of one instance in my life where I flatted my tubed tires and was oh so freakin' happy that I had tubes so that I couldn't get the freakin' bead broken and the tube removed and patched or replaced. I had a '76 GL1000 and those bikes ran tubes. Every single time I had to walk miles to find a pay phone (no cells back then!) and call to have a flatbed come get me and take me to a shop to get the tube replaced. The last time I rode my GL1800 I got a nail in the front wheel, pulled over and removed the nail, plugged the hole and inflated it and got back on my way. I was in the Arizona/California desert and it was 126 degrees Fahrenheit. If I had tubes I would still have to call and wait in the heat for a flatbed to arrive and tow me to get the tube replaced. No thank you. This Triumph you just reported on is superb! I think highly of them but alas I am not only olde but also somewhat physically handicapped and so it is likely too much for me at this point in my life. But still I very much enjoyed your thoughts on it. One need not buy a bike to be able to admire it for what it is and this one is simply gorgeous in a traditional manner than so few manufacturers pay homage to. In the 60s and 70s, Scrambers were the best selling rides available. They could do everything and looked fantastic just sitting there. I very much enjoy your reviews. I believe I have said this before but it bears repeating: Too many reviewers seem more concerned with becoming what I call "sinfluencers". Cannot stand 'em. Continue on speaking the truth of your wants and needs as you see them when reviewing. The truth is only disagreeable to those selling something else. Enough ramblin'. In all ways and for always, be well sir. And...Huzzah, indeed! I somehow put this in a different review of a Tiger so I deleted it and then placed it here where I meant to put it in the first place. This is what comes of being ancient...
Our views on motorcycles in general are identical, that’s why I love your reviews so much, by the way I’m jealous of the roads you get to ride and the scenery is stunning to boot, great job 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Glad your giving the XC attention as the XE always got the spotlight more. Due to my 30" inseam I can just get my toes down on both sides but I'm in love what they've done with the XC and wish they would do more of the same to the 'baby' Scrambler. Great vid!
6'4 here The only two bikes that I tried which fit me comfortably were the Suzuki m109r and the Triumph scrambler 1200 xe. Bought the scrambler and I absolutely LOVE it. Only issue I've had is overheating while offroading due to the short front fender, but this was easily fixed by 3d printing an extension. New tires really bring out a new side to this bike, on or off road.
@@dwheeler016 My feet can touch the ground, and I can scoot back on the seat wherever I like because its a bench seat. Controls are easy to reach even in full length rigid boots. Very comfy bike to ride even with the stock seat. Ive never felt like the bike was too small, and I should be around the same size as you
Lovely bike, lovely review. It suits you. I almost ended up with one last year. I narrowed my choice down to the XC, the T120 and the Speed Twin. The Speed Twin didn’t make the final two, and I couldn’t split the T120 and the Scrambler. Like you, I’m not keen on the TFT, and so ended up with the T120. Very happy with the T120 but still love this Scrambler.
Absolutely great bike for a tall rider. I love the cruise control , screen and comfort. So easy to enjoy cornering but also slow town rides. Great review!

Nice one, personally if this bike was mine I wouldn't change a thing but that's my personal preference. Thanks for another great review, this bike sounds the dogs nuts!
Another honest, grounded, excellent review. Excellent job. I do really love your aesthetic comments. My heart is divided between Speedmaster, and this. I have seen your video of Speedmaster several times. But, having a very similar complexion as yours, and coming from a GS1250 that has taken me everywhere like a mother and a rock, I think this one has also become my target. I think I need the change. Pride for the GS, but I have always love classic looking bikes. Thank you for your job. And best regards from Basque Country.
Excellent review! I have a 1200XC, and I absolutely love it. I'm 6'4, and haven't tried an XE, but I truly believe the XC is a sweet spot, and not overly extreme. Bigger is not always better (or bikes would be judged on suspension travel alone), and there's something to be said about balance, stance, and proper geometry. I think that the XC has the right rake and wheelbase to allow the 21" front wheel to handle well, if not excellent. Keep up the great content!
I've had my 1200XC since December, and my 2007 SpeedMaster is getting lonely in the garage. She never gets to do anything any more. You are spot on about that EFT display. It is useful, but it is not "beautiful." If I could find somebody to put on the gauges from a Speed Twin, I would love it. I have blacked out (powder coat) most of the silvers, except for the fenders. It really cleans up the look. Great review.
Totally with you on the dash. Such a shame that Triumph didn't fit normal clocks and make C really stand for "classic", a simpler more basic bike, with a 19 inch front wheel too. Also I really wish they had fitted the "faux carbs" on this version because I think the T120/ Thruxton/Bobber etc engine looks gorgeous.
“… and with the Triumph modes, you don’t get a great difference in feel between the modes, like some bikes it goes from being docile to mental.” Thank you for that.
Excellent review, I bought mine in April of 22 and have put just over 6k miles on it. I absolutely love it. I have noticed that I have had to adjust the spring preload up a few rounds on both ends after break in. It is awesome on road and even better on mild trails. The engine and suspension combo is super easy to ride off road. The only thing I would add to your assessment is that if you are used to sport bikes, don't buy this thinking it's fast. It's not fast at all. It accelerates really strong up to about 80 mph. It will continue to accelerate with some spirit up to 115 and that is where you run out of gear. Plenty of useful speed and I think perfectly matched to normal street riding, but definitely not a sport bike.
@@nickbazan27 I have a 2019 Scrambler XE and a 2014 Breakout with the 103 on it - depending on what engine you have on your Road King, it can be comparable to the Breakout though the Road King is more practical and more nimble (believe it or not) than the fatassed Breakout. I've ridden 48k miles on my breakout and 10K miles on the triumph. I love both of them for different reasons. I will say that the Breakout will outperform the scrambler on highway high speeds. I can cruise 85 mph and much higher on the Breakout without feeling like I am pushing it. The Scrambler will start to feel forced after 80mph like it was said here. It can go if you need to pass someone or whatever but you won't want to cruise doing 85 or higher for very long. On Sport mode it will take off and it's loads of fun but if you want to travel on highway for long times at high speed, the Road King will do it more smoothly in my opinion
For the money I think it’s the best triumph, it’s got everything and a a fab price. I had their XE end of last year and what a bike it is! I’m about to purchase a Bonneville and I know this is a better all round and value but still leaning towards the T120 Black 👍
Great review. This bike was not something i had not even considered....until now. I think it's now my favourite Bonnie also. It looks fantastic and more importantly Triumph have finally made a bike that fits my size of 6'2. One small gripe is the short little front mudguard, which in my opinion, should be longer so as to avoid getting mud and crap all over the front of the motor, especially considering it's a semi off road bike. Love the sound of it too, which can be heard nicely thanks to your new audio set up. 👍👍💯
The onboard audio sounds very nice indeed! Nice burble and bass off the exhaust. For the money, it's one of my favourite bikes. It's a lovely looking thing.
On my second XE and love them. Got a black one and now ‘blacking’ some of the aluminium parts. Tail tidy ordered and smaller indicators. I love this bike. 6’5 and find it really comfy and has all the power I need and looks fab.
I love this bike! I bought my 2021 Scrambler XC almost 2 years ago, and it’s a joy to ride. I live off grid in the mountains of Montana, and it’s a rough dirt/clay road. Very rough. I do see a BIG difference in rider modes when it comes to the off-road mode. I notice when it kicks in going down a steep, slippery hill, and around corners. The other modes I don’t notice a difference in other applications. But it rides like a dream, has plenty of kick, sounds good stock, shifts clean. If you want pure speed, it’s not your bike. But this bike goes OLENTY fast enough, with plenty of power through the entire band, especially the low end with that 1200cc’s of gruntworthy deliciousness. I agree about your nitpicks, and I’m actually planning on removing many of the silver aspects and powder coating them to match the bike’s tank (I have the matte green w/the thin yellow stripe). So many upgrades I want to do, but that will be this next year. Your riding audio was fantastic, very clean & clear, well done. You’ve got my subscription!
Was trying to figure out what the "massive problem" was, only to realize that you liked it so much that you had no way out other than to accommodate yet another bike in the garage and in the budget - massive problem! 🤣 From southern California ~ Ride Forever!
Sold my XE 3 years ago, last few years riding my GSA. Just missed my XE that much I just purchased another. Just love the styling and switched to SP pipes. Never got along with cruiser styles and for me 6 ft 4 this hits the spot.
I have the 2022 Triumph Scrambler 1200XC. The engine has a knocking noise when I start it, then it smooths out. Has your engine developed a knocking noise? If yes, what was it?
Audio sounds wicked, because of your production quality I mostly watch your videos on my telly and through the AV amplifier. Lovely rumble from the bike ❤️
Love the bike, would have one in the blink of an eye, but got a T120, which I love. Regarding the video, image quality is great, and the sound is mint. Top work. 👍🏻
Did the triumph off-road day on one at the other weekend must admit it is a fantastic bike and so easy to ride with loads of torque currently trying to persuade myself that I don’t need one in my garage.
Glad you pointed out the heat emitted from the water-cooled classic Triumphs these days... Something to definitely consider if you live in hot climates. I went back to an older 865 Triumph after a brief summer on the Thruxton 1200 R.🔥🧯
These reviews are brilliant, I love the extra thought that goes into your opinion of both the bikes aesthetics and ergonomics. I’d written off the speed master and have a totally new appreciation for it. This is one I’d thought about but hadn’t given proper consideration. Both now are bikes I’d certainly look into. Great review.
Great review Ol Man. Your new recording gear really shows off the sound of the bike. This bike suits your size, something you were on about a few vids back. I agree with you about not being bothered in messing about with the rider modes and I agree it's a great looking bike. I'm not with you about the nit-pickiness of the colours, I think it looks the biz. Anyway, keep on truckin - all the best mate.
A great review in an enchanting landscape, thank you for that. I would like to add to the tubeless rims that after hard off-road use a spoke can sometimes break and with this system it can easily be replaced with a new spoke without having to remove the tire! greetings from Germany
Ive test rode this one, loved it. People say its under powered for 1200cc, i call bullshit on that. In sport mode it goes plenty, as much as you need it to. Decent off road ability too.
Totally! There's only so fast you can go before the fuzz hangs you out to dry. In the US they have even been trying out infringements for "speed racing" which they define as accelerating quickly up to the limit - (not over the limit) Eg from the traffic lights.
I have a 2006 scrambler which I love but I am really fixed on adding this to my collection! Hopefully very soon I will take the plunge. Really enjoy your no nonsense reviews on the bikes 👍
I have the 2022 Triumph Scrambler 1200XC. The engine has a knocking noise when I start it, then it smooths out. Has your engine developed a knocking noise? If yes, what was it?
I love my Scrambler XE. It goes on smooth and gravely roads just fine. Only 4k miles on the clock but it’s a lot of fun to ride and makes a great daily commuter.

I have my XC from December 2020 and all I can say is 10!! For her, I also have an 1250 avd and some old Vespa. Every time I see my XC is like nothing can be more beauty (I’ll like to have on my saloon🤣) honestly pilot it is so good and really gives what you expect (mi 1250 is light years better) but you can’t wait more that TRIUMPH has designed it. Thanks for the review and I also has decatalysed it and the heat is there but can live with it (in summer in my city 45 Celsius not the best option) but love her ❤️

Perhaps it is because I am myself a large, bearded o'man, but I find your reviews leave me with a much greater impression of what the bike being tested feels like. This Triumph Scrambler, for instance, was pretty much under my radar as a possible next bike, but now it might make the short list. I really like that TFT display which you dislike, but that's the thing: you give us your honest opinions and we don't have to agree with it. But at least you tell us. With other motorcycle reviewers on YT, I'll watch their reviews and having finished watching, I still have no idea what the bike is like. A perfect case in point are all the multiple YT videos from the British launch of the new BSA: they are all the same and they are all universally devoid of any content. I don't know if that bike will ever be sold here in Canada, but I do hope to at least watch an Ol'Man review of it.
😂😂😂 same! I still think the Speedmaster is beautiful but I know someone who has a Scrambler 900, was Street Scrambler, and it sounds and looks amazing and a lot of fun. It is my new dream bike.
RE; "adventure bikes" and luggage. If you put on a set of those TEC low pipes you mentioned, you could use Bonneville luggage racks. And I agree, this thing NEEDS a pair of analog clocks!
C'mon Ol' Man (and I bet I'm older than you by a good few years mate!) you don't need to click bait us with your introductory headline. Having said that thanks for another great and informative video. Cheers Bro! ;-)
OK.. few things to say on this video....Great intro to vid with you putting on gear...on bike sound amazing.... really improved and ye had great audio already...Great camera angles on and off the bike...don't think this is a bike I would be keen on but I appreciate high quality reviewing and videoing when I see it...Great stuff lads
Sharp looking machine & the exhaust sounds great. Definitely on the short list - just a little concerned with the engine heat, others mentioned that as well. Thanks for the nice video. Cheers, Ronny
Indeed. Thanks buddy. I’d go for an exhaust that follows the frame and that would solve it. Otherwise it is hot but most of the year that’s welcome! 👍🏼
@@MrDarcy-OlMan I am not talking about the high exhaust, the heat of the cat is part of this Scrambler styling excercise. This is why we use the greenbacks (or the Queen's currency) to buy a Scrambler and not an ADV bike. The clocks could have been as simple as on the Speedmaster or the Scrambler 900 and would have fit more authentic and asthethically. The rear rack from the accessories is miserable as it takes a few pounds, so don't bungee cord more than your lunch pack and tennis shoes. The real issues comes with the annoying bright orange service light. It does not compute that I have to pay 70 Dollars to have the service light reset, without the option of doing it myself. Again I know that you can buy the Bluetooth plug for 135 USD and buy the ECU app online but the factory should have addressed that. I think over the last 35 years of riding I aquired the skills to inspect my bike for damages and loose parts, fix minor to medium problems, and conduct an oil change. Obviously Triumph doesn't believe so but I also didn't get here the 1200 Tiger with the electronics package where I need to worry about an ACDC snafu (like an electrical problem but who is not missing Malcolm Young). The next thing is a common problem and well documented: "the joystick", which is no joy at all at least when it comes to reliability. All model years are sooner or later suffering from the famous sticky joystick. It will be slightly internally damaged and needs replacement. Again people telling me to fix this problem with contact spray and WD40, but if you can spray and fix it, it is only dirty but not broke... at least not yet. Triumph dealers acknowledge the damage during warranty time and replace it, but if you are out of warranty keep reading. This joystick is only 150 USD in the mail but the disassembly is unlike their Japanese counterpart and you can't just split the housing like on the far east counterparts. You need a special Triumph tool to go under the housing, release it and then slide it completely (with the heated grips uninstalled) off. By now you should think that Triumph has fixed this issue and this assembly but no. I don't know if environmental issues ie. driving off-road or in the rain contribute here. I also heard about cracked frames but up to now I have not experienced this and don't believe that the average road rider with mild or medium off-road use need to worry. I recommend for the occasional off road and day time rider to put the light guard on but night riders keep that thing off. It will throw the light all over the place and you won't see deer fast enough. Enough complaint the 900 is a wonderful bike without these pains and the 1200 is a more hooliganish bike with minor issues. I got both and love them all. The 900 for the laid back driving with the on the bike seat position and the 1200 with the quick engine and a position, which puts you more in the bike. I explained to a HD friend of mine that the difference is like a comparison between a Softail Special model with the 110 engine and a Sportster... I guess he finally got it... God save the queen and also us and Triumph from some insane Euro XX emission standards...
Hi my friend, I've got exactly the same problem with that bike, like you do... :-) I fell in love with the Speed Master as well, but I am 1,86 m tall and the SM ist to small for me... Besides of that, it looks silly. So the Scrambler fits perfect to my sice and it looks fantastic. My son rides a Thruxton R an has de-catted it. What a great fat sound it got... I would do the same with the Scrambler in case I can afford it one of these days. So the Scramler is No 1 on my list for my next bike. Thanx a bunch for your review. Warm greetings from Germany.
Can definitely say that the audio for the riding shots are much better proper enjoyable now, listened through speakers and headphones and both sounded great! Fantastic video again, any plans to do a video on a Zontes G1 or GK125? Getting my first bike soon and looking at those two, cheers!
@@MrDarcy-OlMan thanks for the reply! That's a shame they're, proving to be quite the popular little bike for the L plate crowd would have been interesting to see both your opinions on it!
I just saw the additional questions in the description, so I’ll address those from my perspective! 👍🏼 • The rattle in the exhaust…I’ve had some nice aftermarket cans on previous bikes, and this is the nicest stock exhaust sound I’ve heard. Love it. It’s at that point where I’m 100% fine not touching the exhaust at all…that being said, there are a few aftermarket options that do sound better, look better, and are lighter, as well as add a mile or two to the fuel economy. I’ll eventually be swapping mine out for the weight & looks, but I’d be fine with this sound. My old KLR650? That’s another story. 🤣 As for it being a manufactured, intentional thing, I can’t say. •• Can it go off-road, is it good off-road: yes and yes. In my previous comment, I mentioned that I live off grid on a mountain in northwest Montana. I’m snowed in in the winters. The road is…feral 🤣 And it handles it fantastically. Suspension absorbs so much, and choosing the right line to evade the largest rocks and potholes & mudholes and fallen trees & limbs helps. I’ve found the off road rider setting to actually help. It’s very noticeable. Seat is comfortable off road. Pegs are so so, I’ll be switching those out for something more substantial & supportive. I also rode it 1,000+ miles over two days, and it was so smooth on the roads, seat was comfortable, just an overall great experience. I might swap out the stock seat with a Corbin (with the same style & brown leather), but it’s honestly not even necessary.
While waiting for a new sprocket set and chain on my 2017 Street Scrambler I had a good look at the 2022 line up and yes this is the bike I liked the most ..I have a friend up in Northumberland that got this bike and took it to the continent .During the trip though the fob started acting up ...He never got stranded but it was enough for him to trade it in when he got home ...I looked at all the notes here and nobody else brought that problem up . I do like the simplicity of a key . Love the suspension , the longer seat .heated grips and cruise control ... Really a class act .Let us know if you pull the trigger :) Yours in New England ...Guy
Triumph should give you a call during the design process for advice😁,I agree sometimes less is more,a few of the parts could go but it's still art on wheels👌🏻
The on-board sounds are excellent, no wind noise, but if you ran it through a high-pass filter set with a corner frequency of about 50 Hz you would get rid of the bumps through the suspension without losing any engine note.
Your sound quality is in fact pretty damn good sir! From my dens tower speakers that exhaust note rumbles the whole room. As with most Triumphs, I was smitten by the scramblers looks, seeing it up close at the dealer though, its a bit on the tall side for me.
I hate to say "I told you so." But..... Perfect bike for where you live. SP Engineering do a great slash cut exhaust. Wear adv boots and the heat isn't an issue. Had mine since 2019 here in Australia and only negatives I would mention are hard seat over long distances (I bought an Alaskan leathers butt pad, problem solved) and is a little top heavy when moving at slow speeds. Otherwise is the perfect adv bike.
@@MrDarcy-OlManmost people tend to go for the xe but I agree with your take on the xc. Handling and overall set-up is much better. Spend a little more on a suspension upgrade and it exceeds the xe in every way.
That was an excellent well done review thank you so much for it... I test drove a used 2019 1200 XE at a local dealership today all I can say is "WOW" that is torque and fast hit 160 klms in a couple of heart beats - the height was perfect I'm 6' 2" 225lbs 63 years old been dreaming of a bigger dual sport motorcycle to do everything where I live in south west British Columbia, Canada = while I would never dream of doing steep/tight gnarly trails with it I can seeing riding it almost everywhere else I ride now. Only negatives is wow my inner right knee got hot from the catalytic converter I had read reviews of this issue but did not expect that level of heat and when I first started riding it I noticed the twitchy steering but after a few minutes I did not experience it again. My son and I currently ride 2012 and 2013 Kawasaki KLX250s dual sport motorcycles so not much that I can compare other than we can do the gnarly trails.
This excellent review contributed greatly towards my purchase of an XC a few months ago. TEC heavy load springs and a Unit Garage rack have been good upgrades thus far. More to come. Amazing bike!!!
Totally agree with your review. I bought a brand new matte green1200XC during Lock Down One. I'm a similar size to you and always loved the modern classics but looked like a circus bear riding a tricycle on them...😆. The 1200XC is my perfect bike - I owned a Tiger 800XRT prior to the Scrambler (also owned a Bonneville 790, a Bonneville 865 and Sprint ST) - and love the fact that the Scrambler is a true adventure bike in modern classic guise, and it fits me!. I have modified it some what, even adding some Metal Mule hard cases for touring - though they don't live on the bike permanently. I've made up some "saddlebags" from some camo Bergen side bags which allow me to carry waterproofs, tools, etc day to day - look so much better than Triumph Rugged Pannier it came with. I genuinely can't find a bike that could replace it... Best modern Triumph? Without a doubt, for taller riders...
I have the 2022 Triumph Scrambler 1200XC. Also matte green. Painted my helmet to match ! The engine has a knocking noise when I start it, then it smooths out. Has your engine developed a knocking noise? If yes, what was it?
I recently tested the Speed Twin and the 1200X. The former was too hardcore for me and the latter didn't impress. The suspension was not good enough for our potholed roads and actually jarred my back. I also didn't like the instruments which look like they have come off the Trident 660 and this year's colours are just dull. So, I ended up buying a low mileage XC which seems to be just right for my height (5' 10") and has better suspension and brakes than the X. The added bonus is that I haven't taken the first big hit of depreciation!
The approach you and your son take should appeal to anyone wanting to know the honest real world pros and cons of every bike you review. Love this stuff. Have you ever considered reviewing an entry level Japanese cruiser like the Honda Shadow line? I know you’ve done the Rebel, but the shadow seems to have a little more of the traditional cruiser appeal at a bargain price. There are a lot of shadow reviews on TH-cam, none really the way you guys do them. Anyway thanks and ride safe. Hope to get out your way one day with my family.
I totally agree that this is a beautiful, possibly the most beautiful, modern-era Bonneville. (I'm still partial to the 1968 Bonnie.) Not sure if we can get the "Gold" limited edition, here in Central (rural) California.... Thanks for a fun ride.
I agree, I like the Speed Master, but I've been looking at the scramblers for a while now. I like how it's a blacktop bike but can be taken off road if you need to. Thank you for the detailed review, we don't have a dealer near where I live, I have to drive 4 or 5 hours to the nearest dealer. I still like the Speed Master over all the others though, but Thank you . Fantastic review, man.
Last week I was in South Wales on hols at my daughters and we went to M&Ps for a look see and I sat on nightster and thought well it heels good then sales man told that some gave back word on and told me he could do a good price but I checked the specs the only holds 11.3 litres of petrol so I guess it would good for a Sunday out I bought a Enfield 650 after your review and enjoy it also have 900 street twin but being pensioner of 71 I will have stop watching you lol did watch your review on the nightster did enjoy it so its still up in the air about the harley
A very good and honest review. Absolutely a brilliant bike, I do agree with changing the exhaust, perhaps powder coating some of the shiny covers and tidy up the tail a bit, a small screen would have been nice but can be added easy enough. The heat emitted is not that bad, I was out during the recent heat wave (one or two days of it) ! was noticeable but bearable it can also be a blessing on a cold day! Penners there is so much out there from metal ones to soft bags. keep up the good work.
The bike fits you well and I am your size so ya the xc is on my list. Thankyou for your fine review. Ps you are so right about the looks of adventure bikes.
Had mine for a while now and still love it. Heat is an issue but no need to decat, a guy from Shapeways makes a Scrambler Leg Saver I wish I'd known about when I bought it. Also regarding retro adv, that Ducati Desert X is pretty cool too.
Really enjoyed this review, I'm not to sure on the Tank colour scheme and all this matt silver we are seeing on bikes lately but the actual style of this bike I think is spot on. Lucky or maybe unlucky that my missus holds the padlock key for my wallet otherwise I would have a garage full of bikes.
OK thanks buddy great points!
Very useful info 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Based on my further review of the XC vs XE, and the Missenden Flyer's review, and considering the more road-focused aspect of my motorbike use, I am leaning more towards the XC versus the XE.
Initially I thought that the better kit on the XE would be better, I do reckon that I will rarely (if ever) take this bike offroad (other than to pitch a tent).
Good to know, and thank you for your info, as I do hope to invest in this wonderful steed in approx 12 months :)
Actually, scrub that about the XC, found a 2nd-hand XE, and they're lowering the suspension for me, and I like it a lot :)
Great for blasting around the back-roads around Lisburn, can't wait to do more exploring on it!
Did I get it right: you listen to navi indications, not watch them on screen?
@@alyx172 With blue tooth in my ears or in the helmet, I can do both.
Yes sometimes companies get too hooked on adding on, when subtracting might be better 👍🏼👍🏼
Sound is one of the most important elements of riding. The new audio recording equipment is an absolutely fantastic enhancement to your videos. Great choice 👍
Thanks buddy 👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks buddy. Glad you noticed. It’s all about the bike after all 👍🏼👍🏼
Thank you for the nice video, thank you for the sound!
That’s great to hear ! Awesome 👍🏼👍🏼
Looking at one myself. I was first looking for a small 2nd town bike but when I seen this, it changed all my plans.
Thanks very much for your comments and experiences; very useful to anyone considering buying this, and any other bike. 👍🏼👍🏼
New audio of the engine sounds excellent. Very clear. Great camera angle looking down the tank too. That bike suits you! Cheers from Lincolnshire.
Thanks very much indeed 👍🏼👍🏼
Our views on motorcycles in general are identical, that’s why I love your reviews so much, by the way I’m jealous of the roads you get to ride and the scenery is stunning to boot, great job 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
What taste we have!
Thanks buddy 👍🏼👍🏼
Glad your giving the XC attention as the XE always got the spotlight more. Due to my 30" inseam I can just get my toes down on both sides but I'm in love what they've done with the XC and wish they would do more of the same to the 'baby' Scrambler. Great vid!
Thanks buddy. Yes there are hardly any reviews out there 👍🏼👍🏼
Sometimes the best mods are not what you put on but what you take off. Excellent as always!!!
Yes I like that! Thanks buddy 👍🏼
6'4 here
The only two bikes that I tried which fit me comfortably were the Suzuki m109r and the Triumph scrambler 1200 xe.
Bought the scrambler and I absolutely LOVE it. Only issue I've had is overheating while offroading due to the short front fender, but this was easily fixed by 3d printing an extension. New tires really bring out a new side to this bike, on or off road.
I am 6'4" and am wondering if the Scrambler would be to small for me. No dealer anywhere within 300 miles that has one to try.
Thanks buddy.
OK that’s interesting. The T120 is lovely too 💯
Absolutely great bike for a tall rider. I love the cruise control , screen and comfort. So easy to enjoy cornering but also slow town rides. Great review!
Yea definitely 💯
Thanks buddy 👍🏼👍🏼
I have the 2022 Triumph Scrambler 1200XC.
The engine has a knocking noise when I start it, then it smooths out.
Has your engine developed a knocking noise?
If yes, what was it?
Nice one, personally if this bike was mine I wouldn't change a thing but that's my personal preference. Thanks for another great review, this bike sounds the dogs nuts!
Yes it’s awesome. I was nit picking 😉👍🏼
Thanks very much indeed 👍🏼👍🏼
picture quality and angles goes to a new level!! gorgeous! a triumph in any performance is a great bike for the money.
Thanks very much. Indeed 👌🏼
Audio sounds great. Thank you for the review. Now I want one.
Thanks very much. OK that’s good 👍🏼👍🏼
I've had my 1200XC since December, and my 2007 SpeedMaster is getting lonely in the garage.
That’s great! Thanks very much 👍🏼👍🏼
Totally with you on the dash.
“… and with the Triumph modes, you don’t get a great difference in feel between the modes, like some bikes it goes from being docile to mental.”
Thank you for that.
Plenty of useful speed and I think perfectly matched to normal street riding, but definitely not a sport bike.
what about compared to a cruiser? got a road king and looking at scrambler for lighter weight and quicker - ness
@@rbatistadeleao good to kno
I love the look of the bike. The different shades of silver really set this bike off and apart from the crowd.
OK that’s great 👍🏼👍🏼
The audio sounds unreal, I'd say your new equipment is working. Brilliant!!
Thanks buddy. A few tweaks needed and I’ll have it perfect 👍🏼👍🏼
Those views . . .You sir are living the dream.
Thanks very much 👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks! Based on your review I just bought the exact same bike, colour and all. Picking up later this week!
Your comments on adventure bike styling and configurable modes resonated with me 😁😁Excellent stuff. A lovely Triumph.
Thanks very much 👍🏼👍🏼
For the money I think it’s the best triumph, it’s got everything and a a fab price. I had their XE end of last year and what a bike it is! I’m about to purchase a Bonneville and I know this is a better all round and value but still leaning towards the T120 Black 👍
Good luck with your choices 👍🏼👍🏼
The sound of that thing thumping thru the countryside won my heart. Looks great (too many silvers and all) too. TAKE MY MONEY!
Great! Thanks buddy 👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks very much. That’s great!
A few more tweaks and the audio will be perfect! 👍🏼👍🏼
The onboard audio sounds very nice indeed! Nice burble and bass off the exhaust. For the money, it's one of my favourite bikes. It's a lovely looking thing.
Thanks buddy. Excellent 👌🏼
On my second XE and love them. Got a black one and now ‘blacking’ some of the aluminium parts. Tail tidy ordered and smaller indicators. I love this bike. 6’5 and find it really comfy and has all the power I need and looks fab.
Excellent! Great to hear 👍🏼👍🏼
Welcome abroad buddy 👍🏼 thanks for the comment
The riding shots sound amazing.
Was trying to figure out what the "massive problem" was, only to realize that you liked it so much that you had no way out other than to accommodate yet another bike in the garage and in the budget - massive problem! 🤣
From southern California ~ Ride Forever!
Yes haha sorry. Massive but not important 👍🏼👍🏼

Taking delivery of mine here in Belgium this week. Some AX41’s and Cocoricorando La Vercingetorix late September. Yeehaahhh!
Audio sounds wicked, because of your production quality I mostly watch your videos on my telly and through the AV amplifier. Lovely rumble from the bike ❤️
Thanks buddy. A few tweaks and we’ve got it righ👍🏼👍🏼
Love the bike, would have one in the blink of an eye, but got a T120, which I love. Regarding the video, image quality is great, and the sound is mint. Top work. 👍🏻
Thanks buddy. Yea that’s great too! 👍🏼👍🏼
Did the triumph off-road day on one at the other weekend must admit it is a fantastic bike and so easy to ride with loads of torque currently trying to persuade myself that I don’t need one in my garage.
Yes I loved it !
Glad you pointed out the heat emitted from the water-cooled classic Triumphs these days... Something to definitely consider if you live in hot climates. I went back to an older 865 Triumph after a brief summer on the Thruxton 1200 R.🔥🧯
Thanks bud. Yes I meant to mention it on the Bobber review too. 🔥
Thanks very much indeed 👍🏼👍🏼
Great review Ol Man. Your new recording gear really shows off the sound of the bike. This bike suits your size, something you were on about a few vids back. I agree with you about not being bothered in messing about with the rider modes and I agree it's a great looking bike. I'm not with you about the nit-pickiness of the colours, I think it looks the biz. Anyway, keep on truckin - all the best mate.
Thanks buddy. Much appreciated.
👍🏼👍🏼
A great review in an enchanting landscape, thank you for that.
I would like to add to the tubeless rims that after hard off-road use a spoke can sometimes break and with this system it can easily be replaced with a new spoke without having to remove the tire!
greetings from Germany
can't tell if the audio is amazing because of the audio gear, or because the bike just sounds so good
Thanks very much 👍🏼👍🏼
Ive test rode this one, loved it.
Riding sounds were good, but they are indeed better now !
I totally agree with what you said about adv bikes 👍🏻
Thanks very much 👍🏼👍🏼

Thanks buddy. Yes I agree. The BSA reviews were a massive anticlimax for me.
Fortunately we’re next on the list!
😂😂😂 same! I still think the Speedmaster is beautiful but I know someone who has a Scrambler 900, was Street Scrambler, and it sounds and looks amazing and a lot of fun. It is my new dream bike.
Thanks Lily 👍🏼👍🏼
Good review of a great bike. I do appreciate your direct no nonsense style, keep it up it's refreshing!!
Thanks very much 👍🏼👍🏼
Thank you for a terrific knowledgeable video. I couldn’t agree with you more on your aesthetic opinions. Spot on! Cheers.
Thanks very much. I’ve always been interested in design 👍🏼👍🏼
RE; "adventure bikes" and luggage. If you put on a set of those TEC low pipes you mentioned, you could use Bonneville luggage racks.
And I agree, this thing NEEDS a pair of analog clocks!
Great review! The shots of the bike are beautiful, too. Great to see it in "real life" with different angles, etc.
Thanks buddy 👍🏼👍🏼
Brilliant video James, and yes the audio is mega! I mean it was good before but dann, you made that bike sound godly!
Thanks buddy. Some further tweaks and it’s there 👍🏼
C'mon Ol' Man (and I bet I'm older than you by a good few years mate!) you don't need to click bait us with your introductory headline. Having said that thanks for another great and informative video. Cheers Bro! ;-)
Thanks buddy. Sometimes it has to be done 😉
OK.. few things to say on this video....Great intro to vid with you putting on gear...on bike sound amazing.... really improved and ye had great audio already...Great camera angles on and off the bike...don't think this is a bike I would be keen on but I appreciate high quality reviewing and videoing when I see it...Great stuff lads
Thanks buddy 👍🏼👍🏼
Sharp looking machine & the exhaust sounds great. Definitely on the short list - just a little concerned with the engine heat, others mentioned that as well. Thanks for the nice video. Cheers, Ronny
Indeed. Thanks buddy. I’d go for an exhaust that follows the frame and that would solve it. Otherwise it is hot but most of the year that’s welcome! 👍🏼
Great channel. Your absolutely spot on about adventure bikes. Remember when we all used maps and planned a route
Thanks very much. Yes not so long ago! 💯
I have both the 900 and the 1200 Scrambler... but I also have complaints about the 1200 and none about the 900... Nice review
Ok that’s interesting 👍🏼👍🏼
@@da72ma really good points there buddy. Thanks very much. Very useful for anyone considering buying one of these bikes 👍🏼👍🏼
Hi my friend, I've got exactly the same problem with that bike, like you do... :-)
I fell in love with the Speed Master as well, but I am 1,86 m tall and the SM ist to small for me...
Thanks very much. It’s a nice problem to have 😉👍🏼
Can definitely say that the audio for the riding shots are much better proper enjoyable now, listened through speakers and headphones and both sounded great! Fantastic video again, any plans to do a video on a Zontes G1 or GK125? Getting my first bike soon and looking at those two, cheers!
Much appreciated. I doubt we will do the Zontes tbh. 👍🏼👍🏼
@@MrDarcy-OlMan thanks for the reply! That's a shame they're, proving to be quite the popular little bike for the L plate crowd would have been interesting to see both your opinions on it!
Sound of bike moving was perfect… glad u had the upgrade
Thanks very much. Still needs tweaking but nearly there 👍🏼👍🏼
I just saw the additional questions in the description, so I’ll address those from my perspective!
Definitely a beautiful machine,and 100% better looking than an adventure bike,great video.👍🏻
Thanks buddy 👍🏼👍🏼
Excellent. Good points. Yes I definitely prefer a normal key too💯
Triumph should give you a call during the design process for advice😁,I agree sometimes less is more,a few of the parts could go but it's still art on wheels👌🏻
I’d love to be involved in design decisions!
Less definitely is more 👍🏼👍🏼
The on-board sounds are excellent, no wind noise, but if you ran it through a high-pass filter set with a corner frequency of about 50 Hz you would get rid of the bumps through the suspension without losing any engine note.
Thanks buddy. I definitely need to tweak it. I recorded on 32 bit float so need to work out a few settings post 👌🏼
Like it, love the sound. Not a fan of that rattle on the overrun with the exhaust though. Thanks for the content.
Yea definitely 👍🏼
Totally agree with you Mike.
Your sound quality is in fact pretty damn good sir! From my dens tower speakers that exhaust note rumbles the whole room. As with most Triumphs, I was smitten by the scramblers looks, seeing it up close at the dealer though, its a bit on the tall side for me.
Thanks very much.
Ok yes it is quiet tall 👍🏼👍🏼
I hate to say "I told you so." But.....
Perfect bike for where you live.
SP Engineering do a great slash cut exhaust. Wear adv boots and the heat isn't an issue. Had mine since 2019 here in Australia and only negatives I would mention are hard seat over long distances (I bought an Alaskan leathers butt pad, problem solved) and is a little top heavy when moving at slow speeds.
Otherwise is the perfect adv bike.
Yea you’re right. Great to hear 👍🏼👍🏼
@@MrDarcy-OlManmost people tend to go for the xe but I agree with your take on the xc. Handling and overall set-up is much better.
Spend a little more on a suspension upgrade and it exceeds the xe in every way.
Great video as usual 👍🏻
Sound is awesome, we feel as we are riding it, might even use that sound as a wake up alarm clock 🤣
Great! Thanks bud
Thank you for differentiating between the different gallons for the fuel economy.
Thanks buddy. Interesting comments! We’re revisiting the XE in October to see if we got it right or wrong the first time 👍🏼
watch all your video's; always make me smile great job!!!!
Thanks buddy 👍🏼👍🏼
That’s great to hear! Excellent 👌🏼👍🏼
I have the 2022 Triumph Scrambler 1200XC. Also matte green. Painted my helmet to match !
The engine has a knocking noise when I start it, then it smooths out.
Has your engine developed a knocking noise?
If yes, what was it?
It‘s one of the best looking Scramblers in the World.
Yes it’s a head turner for sure 👍🏼
Your sound is great well done 👏 keep em coming
Thanks buddy 👍🏼👍🏼
I recently tested the Speed Twin and the 1200X. The former was too hardcore for me and the latter didn't impress. The suspension was not good enough for our potholed roads and actually jarred my back. I also didn't like the instruments which look like they have come off the Trident 660 and this year's colours are just dull. So, I ended up buying a low mileage XC which seems to be just right for my height (5' 10") and has better suspension and brakes than the X. The added bonus is that I haven't taken the first big hit of depreciation!
How you geht along with the 21" Front tire on Twisty roads? Im about to buy XC model cause the XE was a little to high for me.
Best bike I have ever owned.
Another good review I did enjoy my time in development on that model but it’s not in my top 5 keep up the good work
Thanks buddy. Ok that’s interesting. 👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks buddy.
Unfortunately Honda don’t do the shadow or any of the nice retro bikes in the UK otherwise we definitely would 👍🏼👍🏼
Always got me some smile on my face when you and your son says about Black and Gold front forks 🤣
Audio is spot on
I totally agree that this is a beautiful, possibly the most beautiful, modern-era Bonneville. (I'm still partial to the 1968 Bonnie.) Not sure if we can get the "Gold" limited edition, here in Central (rural) California.... Thanks for a fun ride.
Thanks buddy 👍🏼👍🏼
Great review as usual, thanks.
Yet another example of a "form over function" front mudguard!
Thanks very much. Yes indeed 👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks very much 👍🏼👍🏼
Last week I was in South Wales on hols at my daughters and we went to M&Ps for a look see and I sat on nightster and thought well it heels good then sales man told that some gave back word on and told me he could do a good price but I checked the specs the only holds 11.3 litres of petrol so I guess it would good for a Sunday out I bought a Enfield 650 after your review and enjoy it also have 900 street twin but being pensioner of 71 I will have stop watching you lol did watch your review on the nightster did enjoy it so its still up in the air about the harley
Awesome. It can be expensive watching reviews! There’s always something we want! 👍🏼👍🏼
Sounds great, that's a bad ass ride brother, definitely taller than my Bonnie.
Thanks buddy 👍🏼👍🏼
A very good and honest review.
Absolutely a brilliant bike, I do agree with changing the exhaust, perhaps powder coating some of the shiny covers and tidy up the tail a bit, a small screen would have been nice but can be added easy enough.
The heat emitted is not that bad, I was out during the recent heat wave (one or two days of it) ! was noticeable but bearable it can also be a blessing on a cold day!
Penners there is so much out there from metal ones to soft bags.
keep up the good work.
Thanks very much. Thanks for your input 💯👍🏼👍🏼
The bike fits you well and I am your size so ya the xc is on my list. Thankyou for your fine review. Ps you are so right about the looks of adventure bikes.
Thanks buddy 👍🏼👍🏼
Had mine for a while now and still love it. Heat is an issue but no need to decat, a guy from Shapeways makes a Scrambler Leg Saver I wish I'd known about when I bought it.
Also regarding retro adv, that Ducati Desert X is pretty cool too.
That’s good. Yes the Ducati doesn’t look too bad ; not as nice as this Triumph by far
Thanks bro.
Haha women eh 👍🏼
