- The Sonic Mega Collection Walkthrough continues with what many consider to be the most nostalgic mode in the game aside from the games...The Extras!
Since this section has so much to it, I will be breaking it up in parts, to make it easier on myself. If I miss anything, need not to worry as it will most likely be included in a bonus part at a later date. ^_^

I remember going through these when I was around 9 years old. So much history I knew absolutely nothing of. The menu music in this game really rings a bell too.

Ahhh the memories. Many years ago, when I was working alone in a game store. I would often have this game playing on the system that is right as soon as you enter the store. The game would often be left on this menu music and the outside , in the hall of the mall , this music could be heard by anyone in about 2 stores distance from the game store. I remember one day there was severe weather, a flood and huge thunder storm outside and the mall was darkened by the darkness from the outside storm and people were kinna freaking out because of the loud thunder and lightning flashes. But I was chilling in the empty game store , eating some ordered food while this music was playing at the front of the store and Dead Rising on xbox was on one of the tvs at the rear right side of the store and I think a RPG on SNES was being played on the rear left tv and on the main tv in the middle of the store was likely a paused DBZ Budokai game or Tekken 5. I was soothed by the smooth sonic music and the sound of the heavy rain and thunder was also soothing to me too. Good times.
A time I’ll never get back, but a time I was so happy to live through.
Date: December 16 2022. And here's the 20th anniversary for this game and the year is almost gonna be over. And I just wanted to pay my respects for the old Sonic back in the 90's. I remember seeing these comics when this game came out and it was...........................
Oh what the hell am I saying?! My life sucks! I wish I was born in the early 90's playing Sonic games and the watching the shows. But I was born in 97! When my older brother (was born in 92) brought this game, he told me wonderful things he saw when he was growing up. I'm like 1 decade late of sonic 90's stuff. I remember playing Sonic Adventure's 2, Heroes, Mega Collection and watched Sonic X the mediocre 4kids show and the rest of the years in 2000's in my elementary and middle school days to 09. To me it wasn't enough for me. I remember watching Sonic Underground when they aired Sonic X. I think I watched it on a different channel program or I don't know. So yeah. Happy 20th anniversary for Sonic Mega Collection!
Don't you think it's interesting that the Sonic Archie series went down a darker route as the issues went on? You can tell the difference between the first issue and the later issues.
Photon Jet yeah and the more comics there are through and through, the edgier everything is. The colour matches up, the surroundings, and the characters.
If you think about it makes a little sense. You learn early on that these are kids fighting to get back the people robotnik had roboticized and enslaved.
Yeah not to mention the character development of these characters, they are young and growing up.
Listening to the music makes me think sad and happy thoughts.

It’s fascinating seeing the evolution of the Archie comics over the Sonic comic’s run. Starting as a simple comedic gag comic into a dark, arc driven narrative comic dealing with heavy subject matter and a more striking visual aesthetic.

It's so interesting to see the art style progress to where it is now as the years went on. It also seems that the series got darker as the years went in too.

Nowadays, though, I just find it a bit uncanny. Especially knowing what the comic is actually about now, thanks to Linkara's review.
The music certainly doesn't help, though.
As a kid who never even KNEW there were Sonic comics, discovering all this history ignited so much intrigue and wonder...and sometimes disgust, but mostly the first two. So many depictions of adventures I never knew Sonic even had, with only one illustration to glean what the hell was going on in these stories.
I remember playing this when I was four years old! I didn't know how to read back then and I would scroll through the comics eyeing the drawings. It's amazing how so many people in the comment section have made this game very nostalgic to their lives!

This was my first Sonic game and I had gotten it back in 2009 with my second GameCube as my first one had broke and I couldn't get a new one due to money and so for my birthday in July 2009 and I got a new GameCube with this game. I had that same exact copy of Mega Collection up until 2013 when it had stopped working...
It was my first sonic game too except I got it in 2003 for GameCube
This comment trips me out. Lol. I was in 4th grade when I got this game. That was 2004-2005. And that seems SO long ago, yet, 2009 feels like yesterday since that was my 9th grade year.
Why does nostalgia work that way, huh? I remember being a senior in highschool, reminiscing about my 3rd grade years. Thats about 9 years right? And at the time, it really did feel like 9 years ago (at that time, 2003 to 2012)
Well today, as a 23 year old, I reminisce about my freshman year sometimes, and despite being 9 years ago as well (2009 to 2018) to me it feels like yesterday. 🤔

Also, Issue 22 was when it started to get darker. Then it just kept going. Darker & darker up until around 2006 when Ian Flynn took over.

May I ask what u used to record the video? Regular HDD DVD recorder or Capture card?
I used Dazzle. When I use it, I hook it up to a a/v distribution amplifier that boosts the signal (1 in 4 out). wires will go to the tv to see, and the other to dazzle. I also run wires to the computer for audio too. My current setup uses pvr, but its a great setup once you get it all hooked up.
The newer videos in this walkthrough, like the ones in part 3, used Movie maker, I think to process it for upload. The older parts rendered, and recorded everything in virtualdub.

I remember me and my little bro as kids reading through these back when times were more simple. Such a nostalgic, but yet so bittersweet feeling I get seeing these. I miss them. Thank you Sega for putting this into our childhoods and RIP to all the poor souls we lost along the way.

as a kid i would stare at these in awe. the unseen and intense adventures he seemed to have, all out of my reach because i had no money haha. the comics seemed so mystical and mysterious back then.
i still ought to give the archie run another read. i know it had its ups and downs, but it is sad to know the series will never get this heavy, experimental, and non-mandated with its stories ever again.
I wanted that in Sonic origins included a section where You can view the idw publishing comics

I swear seeing all this makes me wanna cry bc this is a game that I had the fondest memories with as a kid. I grew up with Nintendo and having the original DS, GameCube, Mario Sunshine and Mario Kart Double Dash. But this is a game that I never had a bad time with. Either playing by myself or with my siblings it was amazing. This game I will never forget bc it holds a very special place in my heart and sparked my love for Sonic that lives on to this day

For the longest time I thought you could read the comics in the game. Went to a friend's house, played the game and was disappointed you could only look at the covers but it was still pretty cool to look at

They got the copyright to put all of Archie's stuff in there. They didn't even think about Image Comics!
I bet there's a mod out there that uncensors everything, though. If not, someone should definitely get on that.
