    So the problem we're solving here is that water gets into the bearings and can't get out, so it rusts. But by drilling these holes you're creating an escape route for the water when the wheel is spinning?

    • @eucbros9235
      @eucbros9235  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes indeed

    • @murlandfish2762
      @murlandfish2762 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not into the bearings, into the space beside the bearing and trapped against the bearing. This effectively submerges the bearing. Drilling the holes lets the water get flung out and keeps the bearing dry and never submerged.

      @@murlandfish2762 when the water flings out, where does it drain? Is it spraying the inside of the main wheel/side covers? If yes, do you need additional holes to let it drain out of there?

    If I have the tools and skills to remove the bearings, can the seals be removed from the bearings like on smaller rubber sealed bearings? Would it also be advantageous to regrease the bearings with a quality marine grease? This combined with drilling the holes. Or not worth the trouble? Thanks. Great bench videos guys!

      I tried cleaning and repacking the bearing and I think I just got more junk in the bearing. Not sure that was the best move. This may have been better idea or ill just keep my monster pro in on days it looks like it will rain.

    Very cool way to do this without removing the motor cover!

    You guys know more about at this than me, but just inherently it seems that drilling holes into the motor cover would make it more susceptible to water and dust. What am I missing?

    • @mikeintampa250

      Also, wouldn't that void the warranty?

    • @murlandfish2762

      The holes are not into the inside of the motor, just into the small space beside the sealed bearing

    • @eucbros9235
      @eucbros9235  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Lol what warranty? And if motor is spinning what is getting pushed or pulled out those holes. When sitting it drains out the holes. It doesn't just sit in that gap. Without the holes if water got in there it has no where to go with motor spinning or not spinning so it gets in the bearing and starts the process of rusting or other foreign objects seeping in.

    Waterproofing seems like a misguided term for this, this is just going to let water that gets in out, but to stop it from getting into the bearing after it is between the shield and bearing you need pack the bearing with some form of marine grease. This might let water out more than not having the holes but it doesn't make it waterproof. This is just like when I installed showers for a living, I can have weep holes on the bottom threshold but it isn't something to stop the water from going out of the front of the shower if there is no barrier to stop it. Pack the bearing with marine grease along with making the holes.

    • @deadbluesky
      @deadbluesky 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i agree marine grease will be a better option, the grease will stay in place so the water will slide on it so nothing will get in the gap between the bearing and the plate. So just pack a lots of grease inside and that's it.

    which wheels would this be applicable to? Is is all wheels with hollow bore motors or just gotway/begode wheels?

  • @Duf
    @Duf 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hmm I understand you are creating holes to allow water to get out but what do you think about the solutions that are intended to keep water from getting in in the first place?

    • @eucbros9235
      @eucbros9235  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is no good solution to keep the water from going in the first place this is a solution so that no water is resting in that little area where I can seep into the bearings that sits there even if the wheel is moving with the holes moving at any speed the water gets sprayed out and you don't have to worry about it

    • @eucbros9235
      @eucbros9235  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      We've done it to all our Wheels since the very beginning after our first bearings failed and we've had no issues since
