Thunderstorm with Shelf Cloud in Nebraska - July 14, 2023

This was the second clearly-defined shelf cloud leading strong thunderstorms in three days here. The formations ahead of the shelf cloud appear to be both asperitas and mammatus clouds.

The shelf cloud that I experienced was even worse. And it was very spectacular.

The storm with this one wasn't that organized, certainly not as strong as the other one earlier in the week. The squall line didn't really take shape until it had cleared to the east and was mostly just heavy rain here.

I actually thought the clouds breaking up in front of the actual shelf cloud were more interesting. It looked like a hybrid of asperitas and mammatus clouds as they were pushed up by the passing wave.
