Thanks to my parents, I couldn't have a PS2 until I just bought it with my own money once I was no longer a minor. So around 2011. Though I had played it a lot at my aunt's house and their pirated ps2.
The PS2 still is the best console ever made in my mind because as a mainly rpg player with some action and platformer games mixed in there where so many games I love for the PS2. Also the fact that you could play your PS1 games on it made it so incredible. Also Jirard you forgot to talk about the awesome tactical mini game Soul Calibur 3 had which I wish they bring back.
As someone born in 1995 I grew up on the ps2, it was the perfect balance of graphics looking decent but not too real, the games were perfect. Best console best time period, i can still remember the massive upgrade from the ps1..

Warning Opinion Incoming: The ps2 is, in all honesty, one of, if not, the greatest gaming systems of all time. So many games to chose from and so many classics. The controller is near perfect and is super comfortable even today. While the GameCube and OG Xbox are great too and have tons of classics themselves, I have to give it to the ps2. While this is just my opinion, I can guess at least a few people agree with me, hopefully at least.
it's definitely up there for me. also the fact that it can play PS1 games AND use the PS1 Controllers, Accessories, and Memory Cards makes it even more awesome. not to mention playing CDs and DVDs that said tho my personal favorite Consoles are the SNES, N64, and PS1. but that's just me. still the PS2 is an amazing Console nonetheless
Pretty much a fact. I can't think of any other consoles that had some of the best games ever in literally every single genre that gets console games (ignoring RTS games which didn't start really coming until the next generation).
Bobby Shewan Interesting. As somebody who grew up with PS2 and Gamecube primarily, when I look back, I feel like the Xbox is mostly a better version of the PS2 for my taste. It has lots of the same games (obviously they have their exclusives,) but the PS2 hardware has aged so badly. Like, when I play games on PS2 a lot of them just stutter and are so slow during some loading screens. It feels like a handicapped console, whereas gamecube and xbox felt like the games were always running smoothly and like nothing was wrong. The PS2 controller’s alright, it just feels cheap Imo. I prefer a more hard and heavy kinda controller, PS2 is very light and reminds me of a better PS3 controller, which isn’t saying too much. Either way I still love the console, I think that generation of gaming as a whole was the best. So many good games on all platforms.

These are games modified/made ro run in the vita, they are "vita versions". The vita cant run ps2 games like a ps3, even when these said games show how powerful he is.
I remember playing Kingdom Hearts at Disney World in Epcot the year before it came out -- it was unreal, like nothing I had ever seen up to that point in my young life. It took a lot of setbacks but I was ultimately able to beat it years later. This year I got the remaster and have had the chance to experience the magic all over again. Well deserving of that #2 slot. Great list!

Not a bad list, Mostly I'm glad that the backlash to your Ratchet and Clank The Movie the Game review didn't turn you off from the series as a whole. My advice is to note the subtle character growth and changes across the first 3 games since that's why I love them so much myself. Here's my personal top 5 list: (I came a little late to the PS2 train and would rather not have multiple entries from the same franchise or guilty pleasures.) 1. Dark Cloud/Chronicle 2. Ratchet and Clank 3. Psychonauts 4. Vex 5. Jak and Daxter
So happy to see Kingdom Hearts on the list. One of my favorite series, the first two especially hold a place in my heart. Still remember when my local Gamestop had KH2 as a playable demo in the store where you played as Roxas. The characters are so incredibly charming, and the music in those games are gorgeous; I can tell you exactly what world or where they all get used. Glad the first one is so high on your list. I know the series has gotten so confusing for many over the years, but God, if I don't enjoy the craziness of it all. Beating Sephiroth in the first and second games still stands as one of my proudest gaming accomplishments. Overall, an excellent top 10 with some really great picks. The PS2 had so many classics that it's hard to make a top 10

Roi Itzkovich Budokai Tenkaichi 3 is also on the Wii so it wouldn't be fair for me to highlight it as a PS2 experience. I thoroughly enjoyed both Budokai 3 and Budokai Tenkaichi 3 but they're also entirely different genres as fighting games that I wouldn't say can be better than or outdo the other.
FFX and KH were the first games I ever played on any Playstation system. Thank you for having them on this list, and I felt a swell of joy rush out of me when I heard that FF music when it came to the #1 slot. Thank you Jirard.
I still remember when i got the ps2 for the first time, i was thrilled because my pc wasn't even running properly at the time. I fell in love with this console. I spent hundreds of hours playing all of the great titles and never got bored. It just felt too good. For my #1 i would go with either persona 3 or SMT nocturne since these games both took more than 300 hrs each of my time. Great video! Keep it up!

While nowadays I would point people to the 3ds remake, I still consider the original Dragon Quest VIII on PS2 as my absolute favorite. When I graduated middle school, my Dad took me to gamestop to pick out a game as a present and I chose DQ8. Middle School was rough for me but DQ8 helped me forget about my troubles from that chapter of my life. The world was full of color and wonder, the characters were incredibly endearing and the story felt epic. That game was the reason I want to become a voice actor, I would spend hours trying to emulate Yangus' Cockney accent because I loved him so much as a character. Great video Jirad! Looking forward to the next one.
Subsistence had a more standard controllable camera while snake eater still had a top down view like the previous games. It also had a second disk which included a bunch of extras like multiplayer online and the original msx games.
God of War is one hell of a series. And sadly, 2020 can't come soon enough with a reveal of God of War: Ragnarok. (we all know it's going to be called that, even without any confirmation)
The more time goes by, the more I realize that FFX is my favorite Final Fantasy game. I love 6 and 9, but 10 really blew me away more than any other Final Fantasy and brought me all the way into its world.

Soul Calibur 3 and kingdom hearts 1 and 2 are two of my favorites as well. As well as Phantasy star universe, DMC 3, need for speed underground 1, 2, most wanted and carbon, Musashi: Samurai Legend, The Onimusha Series, Megaman X8, Megaman X Command Mission, DBZ 3 and DBZ TEnkaichi 1-3, and The Naruto Ultimate Ninja games.

Man Tekken 5 was the definitive Tekken game for me. It's so tough to find a copy now. till this day I still get upset when I think about how my brother sold our copy in exchange for money just so he can go on a date with his girlfriend.
Burnout 3 was on Xbox as well, so that wouldn't count for a list like this. That's a FINE game, though, and I most definitely respect your opinion of it :)

He hasn't played any Metal Gear games except MGS on the PS. And he hated it because he played it like a completionist and had to get the Big Boss code name, which gave him hell trying to get and gave him nothing for getting it. It's the reason he hasn't played any other Metal Gear games yet, because he doesn't want to have to deal with getting the best code name.
For the guy whose job it is to 100% complete games, it is absolutely a perfectly fair reason to hate a game where 100% completing it is way too fucking hard and not at all worth the effort since you get nothing for it. He doesn't hate the series; he hasn't even PLAYED the series. He just hated MGS because of the absurd difficulty of getting the Big Boss code name.
I still cry at the ending ffX every time, even getting teary eyed whenever to zanarken plays. As for my favorite ps2 game i have to say Samurai Warriors 2 and its re-releases. As it was the game that me and my dad played throughout my cancer treatment.

Very surprised Dark Cloud didn't make this list considering your love for JRPGs. The ps2 arguably had some of the most memorable titles in my entire gaming life up to this point.
Really great list man! The Sly Cooper games shaped me into the person, gamer, and TH-camr I am today so for me personally Sly 2 would be my #1. I also enjoyed Persona 3 a lot so that would be on my list too. Maybe I'll make a video of mine someday hahaha, but the PS2 is hands down one of the best consoles of all time with one of if not the best catalog of games in history!
You should complete the Dragonquest 8 3ds port bunch of stuff to do all the arena monster photo locations mini medals all the filling the monster battle log in fact I fully completed dq8 because you make it look so cool to complet video games to their fullest

Litten14 I’d say the first is better. LBP2 is bittersweet, because while they did make improvements to creation content that expands the potential of the pure platforming, it’s the game that opened the doors for “LBP is more than a platformer” which Imo, is what killed the series. It’s the game where when you started searching for levels, many were levels trying to be so different, and most the time no matter how well made the level was, it just wasn’t fun. LBP made a name because of the physics platforming and charming art style if you ask me, and it should have stayed a cute, simplistic platformer with new tools given for creators to make more platformers. The story in LBP1 is the best by far too. The cinematic cutscenes are actually just annoying Imo. LBP1’s story was not intrusive and just so charmingly simple and goofy

Not a bad list, Mostly I'm glad that the backlash to your Ratchet and Clank The Movie the Game review didn't turn you off from the series as a whole. My advice is to note the subtle character growth and changes across the first 3 games since that's why I love them so much myself.
Here's my personal top 5 list: (I came a little late to the PS2 train and would rather not have multiple entries from the same franchise or guilty pleasures.)

5. Jak and Daxter
So happy to see Kingdom Hearts on the list. One of my favorite series, the first two especially hold a place in my heart. Still remember when my local Gamestop had KH2 as a playable demo in the store where you played as Roxas.
The characters are so incredibly charming, and the music in those games are gorgeous; I can tell you exactly what world or where they all get used. Glad the first one is so high on your list.
I know the series has gotten so confusing for many over the years, but God, if I don't enjoy the craziness of it all.
Beating Sephiroth in the first and second games still stands as one of my proudest gaming accomplishments.
Overall, an excellent top 10 with some really great picks. The PS2 had so many classics that it's hard to make a top 10

Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 3 is better
Roi Itzkovich Budokai Tenkaichi 3 is also on the Wii so it wouldn't be fair for me to highlight it as a PS2 experience. I thoroughly enjoyed both Budokai 3 and Budokai Tenkaichi 3 but they're also entirely different genres as fighting games that I wouldn't say can be better than or outdo the other.

Dark Cloud 2 is my favorite PS2 game
FFX and KH were the first games I ever played on any Playstation system. Thank you for having them on this list, and I felt a swell of joy rush out of me when I heard that FF music when it came to the #1 slot. Thank you Jirard.
I still remember when i got the ps2 for the first time, i was thrilled because my pc wasn't even running properly at the time. I fell in love with this console. I spent hundreds of hours playing all of the great titles and never got bored. It just felt too good. For my #1 i would go with either persona 3 or SMT nocturne since these games both took more than 300 hrs each of my time.

While nowadays I would point people to the 3ds remake, I still consider the original Dragon Quest VIII on PS2 as my absolute favorite. When I graduated middle school, my Dad took me to gamestop to pick out a game as a present and I chose DQ8. Middle School was rough for me but DQ8 helped me forget about my troubles from that chapter of my life. The world was full of color and wonder, the characters were incredibly endearing and the story felt epic. That game was the reason I want to become a voice actor, I would spend hours trying to emulate Yangus' Cockney accent because I loved him so much as a character. Great video Jirad! Looking forward to the next one.

No it wasn't. 2 was ported to the xbox but 3 wouldn't be multiplatform until the hd collection way later.

Subsistence had a more standard controllable camera while snake eater still had a top down view like the previous games. It also had a second disk which included a bunch of extras like multiplayer online and the original msx games.
God of War is one hell of a series. And sadly, 2020 can't come soon enough with a reveal of God of War: Ragnarok. (we all know it's going to be called that, even without any confirmation)

The more time goes by, the more I realize that FFX is my favorite Final Fantasy game. I love 6 and 9, but 10 really blew me away more than any other Final Fantasy and brought me all the way into its world.

Soul Calibur 3 and kingdom hearts 1 and 2 are two of my favorites as well. As well as Phantasy star universe, DMC 3, need for speed underground 1, 2, most wanted and carbon, Musashi: Samurai Legend, The Onimusha Series, Megaman X8, Megaman X Command Mission, DBZ 3 and DBZ TEnkaichi 1-3, and The Naruto Ultimate Ninja games.

kingdom hearts just reminds me of living in the real world. The story of why were here nothing ever seems to make sense but theres so much magic in all of it.

No Metal Gear Solid 3 on a ps2 best list? that's disappointing.
He hasn't played any Metal Gear games except MGS on the PS. And he hated it because he played it like a completionist and had to get the Big Boss code name, which gave him hell trying to get and gave him nothing for getting it. It's the reason he hasn't played any other Metal Gear games yet, because he doesn't want to have to deal with getting the best code name.

For the guy whose job it is to 100% complete games, it is absolutely a perfectly fair reason to hate a game where 100% completing it is way too fucking hard and not at all worth the effort since you get nothing for it. He doesn't hate the series; he hasn't even PLAYED the series. He just hated MGS because of the absurd difficulty of getting the Big Boss code name.

Really great list man! The Sly Cooper games shaped me into the person, gamer, and TH-camr I am today so for me personally Sly 2 would be my #1. I also enjoyed Persona 3 a lot so that would be on my list too. Maybe I'll make a video of mine someday hahaha, but the PS2 is hands down one of the best consoles of all time with one of if not the best catalog of games in history!

I’d say the first is better. LBP2 is bittersweet, because while they did make improvements to creation content that expands the potential of the pure platforming, it’s the game that opened the doors for “LBP is more than a platformer” which Imo, is what killed the series. It’s the game where when you started searching for levels, many were levels trying to be so different, and most the time no matter how well made the level was, it just wasn’t fun. LBP made a name because of the physics platforming and charming art style if you ask me, and it should have stayed a cute, simplistic platformer with new tools given for creators to make more platformers. The story in LBP1 is the best by far too. The cinematic cutscenes are actually just annoying Imo. LBP1’s story was not intrusive and just so charmingly simple and goofy
