Once you adjust to Cape Town, you actually find that there are so many groove places that are so popular outside the CBD and surrounding areas. We have places that are always packed to the brim.
- In Khayelitsha you have Rands (you haven't lived if you don't know), The Milk (great for Wednesday night groove), Kwa Ace, SEEK, eParkini (a long street with many small clubs, they never sleep).
- In Gugulethu you have Teez Lounge (quite a premium spot), 50onGugs (will blow your mind on Sundays, arrive early)
Outside of that we have Chippa's Place in Paarl (massive venue) and Umtata Lounge in Strand. There are a few places I haven't mentioned either due to them being a bit sketchy or not attracting crowds regularly.
I think for extroverted people who thrive on being around people and in social scenes then Cape Town is not the one. But as soon as you meet genuine people and make a friend or two then it’ starts getting good.
As an introvert who keeps their head down - go to work, home, gym, solo restaurant dining, church and done then you’ll be fine.

Hi! Oh, I absolutey agree with your take - "keep your head down" is exactly how it feels up until you start making friends. I only got comfortable once I made a few friends, but funnily enough those friends are STILL not Capetonian. 🥲

@@EssieinRL I'm an older woman who grew up in Cape Town near UCT, in one of "those" totally white upperclass areas, Rondebosch... where kids are nerdy scientists who might one day break out and make some pottery or go to the beach. I agree about whites down here, though to be honest there is no bigger racist than whites from Joburg trying to get away from The Blacks!
I spent several months in Joburg, and find it exactly the way Joburgers find Cape Town. I didn't have friends and nobody was interested in talking to me. They kept their heads down and went to work, or had their hair done in ways which the wind in Cape Town would undo is 3 seconds.
So we have to keep more natural, as we have wind, weather and water to deal with. If you are on your way to the beach in your old beach clothes, you are not going to be interested in a new acquaintance with perfect hair and nails who will spend all their time shrieking about the sand runing their hair/nails/makeover etc.
I have a Cape Town-born housemate with me and I just explained to her that I was trying to explain to Joburgers why you wouldn't go to the beach with perfect hair & nails, and she LOLled! She's a surfer, so in her case it's even funnier!

One needs 2-3 years or more to adjust to Cape Town. Yeah women in Cape Town can break a person down. Which can be scary especially if you are new and you don’t have that mindset. It’s even worse at some workplaces that are competitive because you are viewed as someone who is there to take their jobs. It’s scary but prayer and faith help because one realises that it’s hard but if you are moved to a place, it’s for a reason. Thank you for sharing, many people need this so that they do not feel like they are going crazy.
Lived in CT for 2 years. I hated it. The people, the weather and the cost of living all sucked. I moved back home and haven’t regretted it for a second!
Literally here in cape town . We go to work and go home. I dont even go out. Keep your head down and go home. And in a capetonian. Best would be is to join a social group here . Hiking group ect... Ok all my examples will be active outside groups. Also i dont partake in the social scene though so i dont know. 😂 Im an introvert.
This is interesting! I suppose it’s because the CPT social scene is ‘designed’ more for tourists than locals? But I’ll definitely consider joining a group! Thank you for watching Van 😊🫶🏾
This is why I'm a Joburger through and through. I had a long term project in CPT years back so had to spend 6 months there. OMG. The driving is awful, the people are mean & cold & angry. And for me, for some reason,once I did the wineries + the beach, there wasn't much to do there. Its just FLAT & boring to me. I need the energy of Joburg man.
Only a Joburger can understand! It’s been over a year for me and my only friend here is a former Joburger herself - we can’t make this stuff up! 😂 And I agree, CPT feels tinyyyy once you’ve done the wine/beach stuff. 😫 Cape Town is pretty but she lacks personality!

Lol Cape Town social's experience is like a Fraternity. It's so cold I literally had to move back to JHB cause I couldn't stand it. It's cold for an outsider 😂CPT is only nice for holiday. In and Out..

@@EssieinRL JHB is my corner I will never get tired of it. Mostly cause folk's are more friendlier with each other but CPT is still dope, but for holiday and rich folk not for middle class😂😆

Hi I love your video❤. I'm from Cape Town, born and bred and alot that you've observed are the centiments of many moving from Joburg. Comparing my limited view of Joburg, I agree this is a completely different animal. Cape Town is alot more socially and geographically segregated that is why it seems like it's more difficult to fit in. If you're new here and don't know anyone it will take some time. I also think that's a trade-off for alot of people coming here and love the gorgeous scenery. I love this city though ❤

😂😂😂the greeting part ..as a capetonian... Even in Pretoria how many times people will snap me out of my head space and shout at me because i didt greet. It realt becomes aggressive if you dont greet lol . I mean i do say "hello ..howmuch..."

Hahaha I loveeee this comment - no shame this is super accurate! 😂 I guess each place has its own culture, the greeting thing is huge in JHB. Capetonians are laid back & less frantic about it :)

Im from DBN and to Joburg and then moved to CPT. CT can be super cliquey but I prefer it to Joburg's hustle culture. Also, CT is expensive but there are things you can do for free like the beach and hikes and stuff but Joburg everything you do in the day costs money yoh

Cape Town is more for outdoor experiences, wine farms, etc. It's not really a night life rich scene like JHB.

Lol... the reason why you dont know about the places to "groove" in Cape Town is because of those social circles that you cannot get into... IDK... maybe its your sparkling JHB personality
