    I don't collect ponies, but I love seeing old toys restored (I'm working on some thrifted vintage Barbies myself). It's so satisfying to watch decades worth of dirt wash away to reveal a little treasure. 😊

      I had two as a kid that I must have gotten at a garage sale and my mom thought they were SO ugly but I LOVED them. I thought they were fake but I discovered that they were actually ponies and deep dove into researching them… and that’s a BIG part of why I became a collector in the first place

    You can use cable ties to replace the tail washer for Sunbeam! In fact, it's best to replace the metal bits holding all the tails to avoid rust that can stain through the vinyl and the hair

    • @em6644
      @em6644 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you know if it’s still best to replace them even if it’s in good condition and there’s no sign of rust? I’ve never done something like that so I’m a bit hesitant to try it since it would just be preventative for mine

    • @boobaboo6197
      @boobaboo6197 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@em6644 i totally understand not wanting to mess with opening a pony! I think if it's stored properly and not exposed to humidity it should be fine, but i think preventing possible rust damage is still much easier and faster than removing rust stains with peroxide

      Check out Retrogeek craft here on youtube, she shows how she safely take g1 ponies apart & how she put them together again. She also uses cableties for the tail after taking away the old metall washer.

    As a child, MLP was it for me. G1 started when I was 5 and they were all I wanted. I too wasn't as in to dolls as I was ponies.
    Of these beauties, Masquerade has always been my favorite. She is probably in my personal top ten over all. Green is my favorite color and her mix of mane colors is just so pretty. Plus I adored the Twinkle Eyed ponies.

  • @Tama-Hero
    @Tama-Hero 2 ปีที่แล้ว +18

    For that pony you're worried about the screws on, would temporarily removing the hardware be an option? Idk how its constructed, but thats I think would I would try if I were in that position. If it doesn't come apart in a way you'd be able to put back together I'd treat it like you did the one with the factory curl and just not soak it in water and only use it on a toothbrush on the rest of the surface.
    Watching Pony restorations is like the most relaxing thing in the world, these all look way better than I expected, amazing outcomes

    I had know idea that Mr. clean magic erasers were basically sandpaper. Thank you for that information. I never could get them to work with my dolls, but they always worked with my vintage Pokemon figures. I will be more cautious with them in the future now. Thank you!

    If you're interested in things like hair replacement and the UV method, check out Retro Geek Crafts (I believe that's her channel name. She does a LOT of G1 pony restorations and uses peoples' unwanted or damaged ponies for custom ponies as well! Great finds btw!

    Party time suffers from regrind. Finding any without the"hilighter" marks is rare. Her hair is still faintly pink in the front so thats nice. Generally if there is still factory curl, putting some curlers in tightens them up nicely when they dry. They cleaned up very nicely :)

    Thanks for all the fun.

    Party Time is notorious for stains/regrind. It's something in her manufacturing. I've heard of Party Times that just! Come out less vibrant after cleaning! I think it's because her dye didn't take to her plastic super well. But know it's not you, your Party Time is actually in really nice shape compared to some others I've seen!

    I have a Princess Tiffany with pretty bad high lighter stains on her face. I’ve looked into it and the most likely cause I’ve found is dye from accessories leaching onto the ponies, so you were right on the mark with it! Unfortunately I’ve found no solution other than paint and that’s not something I want to do. For tail washers honestly it’s good idea to remove the washer. In my experience it rusts really badly. It rusts much worse than the clamp. If you have your remove the clamp you can replace it with zip ties or you can even just tie a ton of string around the end of the tail. I often choose the string just because I have way more of that.

    Thank you. When you showed one with a winding mechanism in another video and showed her dance in circles that helped when I found one at a thrift store. I would not have known what it did. You did great cleaning them up. I agree magic eraser did not help on stains on a g1 I tried. I did use acne cream but no uv and left it in the bathroom a few days then rinsed it off. It took some marker and pen stains out but did not fade the vinyl. But I was willing to try. I know you don't like to though. Your new additions look great!

    Have you tried to use a nail brush like the small ones that go around your fingers? You mentioned your thumb was raw from scrubbing! Didn’t know if something like that would make it less painful for long restorations! Idk if the bristles have a difference of material that would effect them or if they are about the same. Hope you’ve had a great day and I loved this video so much! 💕

    I’m aware that this video is a couple months old so I’m a *little* late to the pony party, but I’ll share some tips regardless!
    -Please, do not fully put your ponies in water. Due to the metal washers that are inside keeping the tails in place. It can lead to rust, and that rust may stain your poor pony’s tail, and water that is trapped inside can lead to mold growing. :(
    -To replace washers, I highly recommend that you buy plastic washers. Because you place your ponies into the water, they are at risk of developing rust, but a plastic washer can combat that! Definitely look up a video on how to replace the washers. It’s a very simple process ^^
    -Don’t be afraid to use acetone! I use it to remove any marks left on the pony that water can’t, such as stray paint from other ponies. It’s very handy!

    • @xCanadensis
      @xCanadensis  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Since I’m washing the full bodies and would like to combat possible mold inside since these are old and I don’t know their nature and mold/mildew are very bad once they cause staining and can potentially spread to other ponies, I feel it is necessary to soak them. Never had any issues with rusting in the decade now that I’ve been doing this with my G1’s.

      It’s not about losing paint - acetone melts plastic and leaves rough areas where the plastic melted. I’d prefer they just have small stains
