It is possible to combine two or more different colours when doing diamond tufting. As I show in this video I have used two different automotive leather(1.3 mm thick) colours I had at hand.
Suggestions:
1. To get a better outcome and ease procedure I would advise the use of thin (less than 1 mm)furniture leather material which is more pliable and softer than automotive leather.
2. I would advise the use a 7 cm (3 inches approx.) dense foam as first padding then thoroughly cover it with a 1 cm softer foam layer, and at last a layer of dacron all over to even irregularities and 'add' more 'body' to our design.
3. The sewing of all leather pieces should be also considered as a possible fact in case of combining two or more different leather colors.

I am a car upholsterer I always have felt fascination for my upholstery trade involving not only vehicles, but furniture or hand craft projects.
love, love, love the bicolor tufting! that's hw i'm going to do my pickup truck. thank you! will post pics of truck when i'm done.
Please, do not forget the suggestions on description. You should choose what method suits best for you.
For cars I particularly recommend the use of 'foamed inside hidden stitch design'. A 1/2" of an inch foam would be right. The edges of the pieces should be sewn together on their reverse side to complete the whole main panel.

Great tutorial! Thank you for sharing the technique! Do I understand it correctly that the corners of the leather diamonds do not go all the way to the plywood base? The holes in the foam are 6 cm deep, and the leather diamonds are only 2 or 2.5 cm larger in each direction than the diamonds on the plywood. Or I would have to pull the corners all the way down to the bottom by compressing the foam? Would appreciate any comment! Thanks.

I've always said the European upholsterers are big steps above all Amearian ones. This guy proves it.
This may be true but my dad who was born in 1910 & took up an upholstery apprenticeship upon completion of 8th grade age 13 learned this kind of work. Our culture has just slid downhill from quality work and quality products to IKEA. I must say though if I recall my mom did say he apprenticed himself to a European Master Craftsman. My dad's been gone many many years & I never had opportunity to learn from him but if any one who wants to learn ANY trade I encourage you to find an elderly craftsman to take you under his wing. I have found that many old timers who were very closed mouth about giving out information when they were younger Wil willingly share info as they see new people coming into a trade and they no longer must worry about the very person he helped becoming his compitation

Me parece que Ud. está localizado al otro lado, en USA. Le envío dos links de proveedores que pueden ser de utilidad.
La maquinita o prensa manual es única, lo que cambian son los troqueles, entonces hay que comprar en las 3 típicas medidas de botones de tapicería.
