    Love the Bouteloua grass in front of that beautiful Strawberry Vanilla

      The grass I had in the front of these hydrangeas during this time was the Blonde Ambition Grass. I wrote about my experience with that variety on my blog at brenhaas.com/plants-in-the-evening-garden/
      Today I have a few new plants growing in front of these shrubs. I hope to make a new video featuring those if you are interested!

      Will do! I will try my best to remember to leave a few of the blooms on the shrub. I love drying them to use indoors during the autumn, winter and early spring.

    I just ordered some online with the COVID-19 going on. I can't wait to see how these do in my full sun garden. They're absolutely beautiful. I just learned the other day that they grow in Ohio. How awesome is that! This video was very helpful. Thank you for sharing.

      Are you growing them in full sun or shade?

    • @BrenHaas
      @BrenHaas  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      full sun now - in zone 5b Ohio. I don't recommend full sun in warmer hardiness zones.

    So it's safe to say they do best in full sun! I just got mine early last fall and cannot wait for it to bloom. I have so many different varieties of hydrangeas from the type that bloom on old wood to the oakleaf to many different panicle hydrangea so I think I can safely be labeled a hydrangea hoarder! lol Beautiful landscape, Bren

      Thank you for sharing with me. This variety does great for me in full sun once established. I am in zone 5b Ohio.

    Don’t water them from above. From below only. They also seem leggy and floppy. Try to completely cut off the thin branches in the spring. And cut back the rest by a third down

    Do you have to worry about deer eating your lovely hydrangea? I want to plant some but I’ve been told deer will eat them. Thanks ❤️

    • @BrenHaas
      @BrenHaas  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      People always tell me that deer eat their hydrangeas. I guess I have enough in my garden of other things because I have NEVER had them eat the hydrangeas. Thanks for stopping by and don't be shy - try a hydrangea in your garden.

    Great video!! How tall would you say that your vanilla strawberry plants get?

    • @BrenHaas
      @BrenHaas  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Strawberry Vanilla I've been growing since 2012 only gets about 4 feet tall.

    • @Thunderkitty0
      @Thunderkitty0 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      very interesting because sources say they get 6-8 feet tall. I thought i couldnt have it because its too big for m y spot so i was going to purchase the smaller similar type, "strawberry sundae". Thanks, super helpful video

    • @BrenHaas
      @BrenHaas  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Antoinette Jones the Strawberry Vanilla I have been growing for over 5 yrs has never grown taller than about 4 feet. I have the tags - brought these home from a garden writer event where the company limited editions gave them away. Maybe in fall sun - better soil?!

    Which variety is that ornamental grass in front of your full sun hydrangeas?

    • @BrenHaas
      @BrenHaas  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I believe it’s a : Saccharum ravennae ornamental grass. This one stands over 12 ft tall and was in the landscape when we moved in 2003.

    also here in Ohio! agree with some of the characteristics. if it's full sun the blooms are much larger and the colors vibrant. if half shade the blooms aren't as big but still has a nice vibrant color but not as bright. full shade the blooms are quite small and color is meh

      @@BrenHaas i think you're the one that scored a great deal on those vanilla strawberry's from Costco or Samsclub? last few years it's only been limelights, endless summers and that's it
