ABOUT BUC-EE'S
Buc-ee's is a Texan chain of convenience stores and gas stations located in the Central, North, South, and Southeast regions of Texas as well as locations in Southern Alabama, and Florida. The company is owned by Arch "Beaver" Aplin III and Don Wasek and has its headquarters in Lake Jackson, Texas. The chain is known for its very large-format stores and clean restrooms (relative to other convenience stores) and a logo depicting a beaver.
History
Co-Founders Don Wasek and Arch "Beaver" Aplin opened their first store as partners, which is still open as of 2020, in Lake Jackson, Texas, in 1982. Aplin formed the name Buc-ee's by combining his childhood nickname; the name of his Labrador Retriever, Buck; as well as the appeal of Ipana toothpaste's animated mascot, Bucky the beaver. Aplin was born in Southeast Texas, with his father originating from, and grandparents residing in, Harrisonburg, Louisiana.
The second Buc-ee's in the Metroplex opened on May 23, 2016. The store is located in far northern Fort Worth, across the street from Texas Motor Speedway. The third DFW location opened in Denton, Texas, on October 29, 2018.
Buc-ee's broke ground on another North Texas location in Melissa, Texas, on February 5, 2018. The store is located off New Davis Road and U.S. Highway 75. The store is expected to open in February 2019.
In June 2018, Buc-ee's approached landowners in Texarkana, Texas, with interest in acreage off Interstate 30 and State Line Ave., for a future store site. The company has the option to buy the property, but as of yet, has not exercised that option.
In late 2018, Buc-ee's announced a deal with Tooshlights to put special indicator lights in bathrooms to alert customers to which stalls are occupied or not. This is similar to the indicator lights used at some parking facilities that tell drivers which parking spaces are available and which are not. The Katy and Temple Buc-ee's stores would be the first to get the special bathroom indicator lights.
Which one of these Buc-ee's foods would you try...or not?
All of them!
Any one of them would be more entertaining than this video.
All but the eggs
Did you know Buc ees won't serve truck drivers? It's true. DON'T support them!
I would try the prickly pear jam & sausage in a tortilla on a stick!!
Pecan is pronounced p'cahn, not PeeCan. A PeeCan is something you keep next to the bed for a midnight emergency.
Yes! Thank you!
"Pecans are for eating, pee cans are for truck drivers."
Exactly 💯😂
Peecan...... something a long haul trucker would use! 🤣😂😆😆
Mmmmm Mmmmm nothin' like some PeeCan pie !
"Look at how well this fudge is packed in here".
Damnit Dav 😂
Lol
👀
He also liked that banana in his fudge...
Grew up on a southern arkansas farm. Most of the stuff we made growing up. We pickled chicken and quail eggs from birds we raised. Beef jerky from cattle we raised. We even had a smoke house and made bacon and country hams.
We always had a huge garden and we canned all kinds of veggies.
I love buccees but you just about have to sell your car in the parking lot to walk in there and shop.
That actually sounds amazing!
I live rural. I love pickled quail eggs. I have some quail eggs in the fridge right now. Today is bread baking day
Pecan brittle sounds awesome.
@@stj971 Texan here. I make pecan brittle in regular and spicy, Pecan/Jack Daniels flavor, and in Pecan/Smoked Brisket chunks flavor. It sells great at bars! ❤
Lol. Got some cherry maple jerky myself a few weeks at Buc-ees in Sevierville Tennessee. It was all that.
LOL! My grandpa owned a saloon in the 50s. He sold pickled eggs and they taste best with a glass of beer.
I want a Bucee's seat belt cover for my wheelchair. that's cool.
Conversation starter!
It's a cushion for the strap where it goes over your shoulder.
@@bcayea lot of wheelchair users use a seat belt. I don't always. It depends. Just a little info you may not know. ✌️
Watching you eat all those different things and your expressions had me laughing my "backside" off! 😆
Glad to hear that!
I laughed a bunch of times watching this but when you ate the egg and your eyes were watering I couldn’t stop laughing so hard! Great video!!! YOUROCK👍👊💥
That makes me happy to hear that. Thank you for all your help!!
Hearing the words, "Too briny" and "Too salty," made my mouth water.
Great video! As a Buc-ees lover I was so excited to see you do this video haha. You should have tried some of the sodas though!
Next time!
What a great video!! Just found your channel and subscribed ❤❤❤
Awesome! Thank you!
The candied jalapeno jelly is very good. Love their brisket breakfast taco also.
Quail eggs? Weird? I thought that was just an ordinary staple item in all homes here in Louisiana 😂...I love pickled quail eggs!!
I love Buc-ees! I love the banana pudding. Mmm. I'm gonna have to get some of that banana fudge next time though! Super fun video, Dav.
It was amazing! I should have gotten more!
In the future when I'll travel to the US, I'm definitely going to Buc-ee's! I can understand why Emily obsesses over them! 😄
You should! It's really something to see!
Lmao on the quail egg 😂
Uh-oh, Buck-ees is now on my Buck-et list!
Looks delicious!
Not everyone likes pickled eggs, but there are those of us who do. I haven't tried Buc-ee's, but I might some day. My favorite pickled eggs taste like potato salad.
Pretty sure I made the exact faces in empathy during the pickled quail egg experience!
Lol! So terrible!
First of your videos I have seen. Buc-ee's is really amazing I am a huge fan of their brisket sandwich. Banana fudge is amazing glad you tried it!
Hope you enjoyed it! I'll try the brisket sandwich next time for sure!
Mmmm Maple jerky😮 i love most maple flavors. My counter top oven has a dehydrator setting. Im going to try making my own!!!
Good podcast dav!!!!
Appreciate it!
Mmmm banana fudge sounds so good. Great video idea, petrol station stops. 😂
Thanks!
Good morning dāv, oh come on you don't want to wear the buc-ee beavers onsie😂😂😂. That fudge looks delicious. Great vlog today as always. Have an fantastic Sunday.
If it was an alligator onesie I might consider it lol
@@davkaufmaneatstheworld lol right
I think its some combination of amusing and maybe a little sad that has 3-5 times as many views as the next most popular videos on your channel. I'd never heard of Buccee's before watching Snake Discovery, its crazy to me how obsessed people are with it!
Its nice to see the mix of local/american locations with the exotic ones, though. Gas stations and fair foods mized with river tours and first class flights, and street foods from non-westernized countries- it truly is a global take on food.
Ahh my uncle and aunt live in New Braunfels! Cool! I still haven't been to a Buc-ees yet, I'm a tool. We're supposedly getting one in Madison!!
I heard that! It's going to be my new stop routine on my way to Tinley!
living in the west I've never seen a buc-ees, and have only seen Emily from SD fan girl over them. This was an awesome twist to see the weirder stuff sampled, I'm definitely stopping this summer on my road trip to Florida, but I think I'll skip the Quail eggs. I love this channel Dav, and have been binge watching like crazy. 💛💖
So glad you're liking the channel! And Florida has a couple Buc-ee's along I-95 you can stop at as well
Family Farm and Home in Michigan carries the pickled quail eggs. I love them, especially the jalapeno and spicy pickled quail eggs. Yum.
I’ve bought and eaten Bucee’s pickled eggs and they are delicious! Their pickled garlic is good too👍
I would rather have the pickled okra 😁
Pickled garlic and pickled green beans are great!!!
The pulled pork is awesome.
Pickled eggs are disgusting 🤢
Yup!
I seen somewhere around here somebody said try pickled pigs feet heck yeah try that they're pretty good.
Prickly pear fruit is the best. In Medina, Texas my brother and I while hiking in the hills used to cut them right off the cactus and in half and spoon out and eat the inside goodness. I bet that jelly was good!
I've done that too!
Born and raised in Dallas,Texas love bucee's ❤, the only things on your list that i have ever had are the sausage on a stick and the watermelon cotton candy
I'd like a Bucees key chain! My cousin had one. I was jealous!!❤❤😊😊
Wow!
Love pickled quail eggs!
Luling TX now has the world's largest Buc-ee's.
That would be so much fun to go to one of those places
It's definitely way more expensive than Walmart!!!
Yes, the fudge looks to be nicely confined in a box.
lol
Wish there was one near me. Really interesting products in there.
Well they're building one in Wisconsin if that's any closer?
the simpsons reference and the sexual innuendos are killing me lol
Glad you enjoyed :)
Haa pickled quail eggs. 😂 I make them at work in Tupperware. 😁
Bucees coming to Phoenix!! Yes plz
You should try Royal Farms! Great chicken and unique treats.
Thanks for the tip!
The look on your face after eating the pickled quail egg I knew that was going to be not good. I like pickled eggs in beet juice but that did not look good lol.
It wasn't lol
Homemade Cajun pickled quail eggs are actually delicious. Although I visit Buccees often, I have not tried theirs.
Yep, those facial acrobatics were hilarious. 😄
I knew your face would contort! Pickled eggs always rubbery🤐 ugh
I love pickled eggs pickled in beet juice!
He's gotta be a city boy, many not wierd foods, just good!
It's seems this video should've been named the wonderful world of buccees beef jerkys lol
I may name my next Buc-ee's video that :)
Wore my Bucees shirt today. One of the best ones around. I spent way too much money in this location 😅
Me too lol
When are you going to do a part 2 with JMG reptiles? 😂
I'll look into that on my other channel
that was an entire face journey with the quail egg. Maybe even an odyssey.
Yes. Yes it was lol
U gotta try pickled pig feet dāv😂😂😭
hard pass thanks lol
@@davkaufmaneatstheworld 😂😂😂 same here
Chicarron is better
If you’re ever in the Cincinnati area you should go to Jungle Jim’s! They have so much cool stuff there. Also let me know and I’ll give you a tour 😂
Cool! Thanks for the tip!
It all looks good to me.
Hopefully BUC-EE'S reads this --->Great idea to send those treats to "Irish People Try" channel...I live on Vancouver Island and I now know about your treats and have friends that travel all over the States and I'll make sure to mention your BUC-EE'S products. I love the Irish People Try channel and saw your product....."
If you ever make it to Denver, check out Casa Bonita!!!
I've heard good things
@@davkaufmaneatstheworld The food is way better than it use to be.
Now you and Emily and Ed can share war stories about eating Buckee's Pickled Quail Eggs, Dave.
Oh we did :)
Pickled Quail Eggs are everywhere near me in Michigan. They are gross, kinda plastic-like texture. But each to their own.
I love Jalapeno peanut brittle! Also pickled eggs are an absolute favorite! Also there is no way you're in the south and pass up Banana Pudding with nilla waffers
Right?
When are you coming to South Africa? Then you can try our our biltong. We don't have this wide variety of flavours, but you can add your own flavour salt....
I'm planning on coming May '25. I'll have to check that out
Pickeled quail eggs are so good
Gotta love some pickled quail eggs.
Yes, look at how well the fudge is packed.
Lol
@@davkaufmaneatstheworld I should have mentioned, I thoroughly enjoyed the video! I have a soft spot in my heart for all things jerky and pickled. I'm passing by a Buc-ee's next month and I'll be sure to go with money in the pocket.
Omg! those overbites are new and sofa king good! And I am a pastry so that is high praise. As far as the merch why would I pay a company to give them free advertising on my chest? Says the guy with a drawerful of shirts.
If you're in the South, you owe it to yourself to find a Dixie Queen or a Zesto's. They're both really neat walk-up / drive-up restaurants that are both light years better than any Dairy Queen.
Thanks for the suggestion!
They opened one near where I live...and the story my sister told me of how the line to get into it blocked up 10 miles of highway is enough to deter me from ever visiting.
Also...Dav, did you just say watermelon and banana aren't fruit? They're both berries, and all berries are fruits...even cucumbers and tomatoes are berries! And pumpkins!
That's how it's going to be for the new one in WI. But I'm going anyway. And I did and I was wrong :)
Fun video. Good choices. Hear this in a kind voice - if you are going to do close ups of items. Put some cream on your hands and cuticles. I love pickled eggs but I make them and they are not overpowering. Store bought ones are nasty - you are right.
I take no offense. I film for my other channel in the outdoors so they can get pretty banged up
Emily had the same response to the quail eggs!
Yup...
If you've never tried their lemon peppered jerky, TRY IT. I know lemon pepper sounds super simple but it hits different on jerky. My daughter and I routinely finish off bags of the stuff, and spend the rest of the night with jaws hurting from jerky consumption. Totally worth it though.
Thanks for the suggestion I'll definitely try that
For 10 years that cook a “ton “ of peanut brittle every December , they should not have cooked the jalapeño. Just sprinkled it on top when they poured the molten Sugar out onto the cookie sheets.
I’ve been to that exact buckies they were hard to leave
Right?
You need to check out the world's largest truck in the world in Walcott Iowa. It's 220 acres and has pretty much everything you can imagine. Their kitchen is open 24 hours a day and there's a buffet, showers, food restaurants, laundry facilities, 900 parking spots for semis alone, 36 gas pumps and more. It's called Iowa 80. Love to see a video of it.
I live in Minnesota so that's not too far away. I'll do a video there really soon
Looking forward to seeing it@@davkaufmaneatstheworld
That peanut brittle, if you would have bit one of the other corners. There was a piece of jalapeno. Has a Texan, them pickled eggs would have gone good with the sausage on a stick!
To your credit, you showed things I've never seen in other videos.
Glad you enjoyed the vid!
Dav, in Afrikaans we call a truck = bakkie. Exact same pronunciation as bucee without the s.
I was, suprised to see the red old bakkie/bacee in the shop.
Thanks for the info! I didn't know that!
watching you touch everything just
The fudge is really good I also have a mug from there
Yeah that was the best
Hi Dav and fellow Kaufmaniacs. FYI, Quail eggs taste just like Chicken Eggs, only smaller and more expensive. I enjoy using eggs as an ingredient but not when the egg taste is forward. My latest discovery is hard boiled eggs with chocolate, pinch of instant coffee and Cream, blended up to make a pudding. Be well all, Jim
Kaufmaniacs. I love it!
I've had the banana pudding fudge , it's very good ! No thanks on the quail eggs 😂 By the way , the Sevierville Buc-ees is open. It's about a 45 minute drive from me. It's huge !
Is that the one that is now the biggest in the world?
I believe at this time. I hear they are trying for another bigger store in Texas or Florida ..I just can not remember exactly. If I do I'll let you know. 😁
Emily is going to be so sad she missed this
I invited her but they had to head west right after we were in Dallas
@@davkaufmaneatstheworld bummer
I wonder if they have 1 person that just packs fudge all day? What would the job title be?
Buccees pimento cheese was really good, I made sammiches off it for days
I'll have to try that
Come down to south Louisiana and try real pickled quail eggs. Those are briney because they're too old. We eat lots of quail eggs here and they don't sit on the shelf long. Plus ya got boudain it's like a sausage but steamed Not dry, plus theres plain pork boudain, both mild, and spicy. Then ya got crawfish boudain, shrimp Boudain. Another great great gas station food is dried shrimp. And our pepper jelly will warm ya up first, then come on sweet like a cool southern breeze. Sounds like I don't want no bucees. God bless man stay safe.
I actually have plans to do that
We love pickled eggs in Texas
Should have got you some pickled okra that stuff is delish.
I'll try that
You and Emily should do a collab on going to Bucee's together it be very entertaining.
Perhaps we will one day
@@davkaufmaneatstheworldAt least we got to see you both collab a bunch of times already 🙃
I second that suggestion. Collab please! ❤
Dav what happened to the quail eggs lol. You said you want to give it away.
We gave them to someone
Whoopie pies are a Pennsylvania Dutch Amish thing in case ya were wondering.....
I didn't know that. Thanks for the info!
@davkaufmaneatstheworld definitely an idea for an episode! Come hit the east coast Amish markets!! There's one in Annapolis MD near me & everything is amazing! You haven't lived till you've had an Amish sticky bun! All hand made in front of you! Then you could sneak over to Charles County & try & find a Rainbow snake which would pretty much make you a herping legend if ya managed to turn one up lol!!
Love pickled eggs pickled pigs feet great knuckles also
I wish I could mail you some of our cookies! My boss makes the best cookies!
Why can't you? :)
I just looked it up and it told me that Sevierville, Tennessee is the world’s largest Buckys as of 2017
They just opened the new one
I hope you got something for ed and emily 😂😂
I was going to get Ed one of the Buc-ee's costumes but I'd definitely make him wear it lol
I ❤️ buc ees
Those seat belt things are great for short people. They hold the seat belt in place across your chest so it's not going up and slicing your neck open. They are a bit hard to find nowadays, and I'm always leaving them in rental cars. Frustrating. Do I want a Buc-ees one, no. If it was the only one I could find, yes.
I hadn't considered that
I love going to Buc-ees it is so much to take in. Also Pee-cans are what people used to put by their beds .
Right?
Pee'-cans is southern, pah-cahns' is northern. I think when "Yankees" hear Pee-cans, they can't help but raise their new England eyebrows...🤣
@@denisefarmer366lol, I live in Texas and was born in Charleston S.C. we definitely don't call them pee-cans.
Largest buccees is in Luling Tx. Second largest is Sieverville Tn. What made you say New Braunfels😂
When I filmed this it was the largest buc-ee's
