As a German NFL fan, I read reports that amongst young people American football is now the second most popular sport to watch on TV. We’ve got an amazing fan base here and these ticket queues show that, unfortunately it’s impossible to get your hands on tickets. American football will never overtake football here ever but with now the European Football League growing more strongly, the NFL will really cement itself here.

But the reason there are so many ticket requests must almost surely be because people from a lot of countries can simply drive there. Munich is easily reachable from Austria, Switzerland, northern Italy, Czechia etc.

Yes, thats part of it. But I would say at least 1/3 are true fans who stay awake every Thursday/Sunday/Monday night (games starts at 2.30 am german time) while going to work the next morning... So around 500k dedicated Football fans who would buy tickets several times a year, + maybe 500k casuals who would go once a year... + all the fans from around europe... People forget, that Paris-Frankfurt for example is just a 4 h trip by ICE (highspeed train) and costs around 60-70 €... or Rome-Munich is just a 1.5 hour flight that costs around 200 €...
So the fanbase in Germany (and in Europe overall) is big enough to sell out 10-20 games every year... without a problem! Not to mention all the different high level stadiums in germany alone... Dortmund (70k) Berlin (70 k) Munich (65k) Schalke (55k) Frankfurt (55k) Hamburg (55k) Stuttgart (55k) Düsseldorf (50k) ... Dont let me start with the rest pf Europe like Spain (Barcelona Madrid Sevilla) France (Paris Lyon Marseille) Italy (Milano Rome) more then enough venues to "spread it around".

This number is extremely biased. First of all, a lot of people tried to get a ticket using several devices. Second, Ticketmaster is bloated with ticket bots automatically buying tickets and reselling them later for a higher price. No way, one million people tried to buy a ticket for that game.

I was number 80,000 in the queue, did not get any tickets of course. Meanwhile tickets were already getting sold for 10x the normal price while the sale was still going on.

I can really see the Chiefs eyeing for that Jaguars spot in Germany. They already have a cooperation with FC Bayern

They have the German territory. Got assigned to them 2 years ago. More suprised the game wasn't in Munich but in the tiny Frankfurt stadium.

The League is definitely looking at this like it's lost money until they can get teams over there to take advantage of the demand. How long until we get an overseas franchise (or more) again? This is enough people queued up to fill 20 stadiums. Think about that.

As German fan I feel absolutely robbed by the sell of Gamepass to Dazn. Dazn is rubbish, streaming quality is worse and they plan nationalised broadcasts and ads! If they remove the original ads I don’t want any ads at all with that horrendous price. US commentary is way better too.

To explain the success of the NFL in Germany for those interested:
The TV channel that held the rights to the NFL games for years used some really progressive marketing techniques for the sport, they actively tried to revolutionize sports coverage in certain areas by making it more interacting with social medias many many years ago and have the sports commentators act to some extent in personas. For example there was one commentator always going crazy whenever a QB sneak was done giving incredible entertainment value to the play. They weren't afraid to be different than traditional sports media coverages, in fact they were actively trying to distinguish themelves from it.
And while I personally am no fan of american culture at all, the also tried to tie the american lifestyle experience to the game from the start, like getting yourself the bucket of Chicken Wings for the Super Bowl and while it could have backfired massively like in the business case of Walmart in Europe, it really hit the mark in Germany.
With all these decisions I'd say that RAN (the channel) was one of the first to do these things and it really opened the Sport up for a broader audience, now it's just about cultivating it even further.
The one thing I can guarantee is that the numbers are not fake and in fact they are even higher as many people didn't even try to get tickets knowing the current rush of demand.
To all American fans questioning these numbers I'd like to suggest you googling the Football (real football) fan culture in germany regarding away matches, especially internationally in the Champions League, we Germans tend to get a little bit carried away regarding sports.
Btw the national sport in Germany is classic football with an immeasureably amount of distance to 2nd & 3rd Place being the Winter Sports (Skiing and Biathlon) as well as Handball.
Generally speaking physical contact sports like Handball & Icehockey have a certain amount of popularity though which makes it easier for the NFL to gain a foothold in Germany.

It was 4 teams solely in Germany in the NFL Europe: Düsseldorf Rhein Fire, Hamburg Sea Devils, Berlin Thunder and of course Frankfurt Galaxy.
Germany has some potential for team sports with a ball. 4 times football (you colonists call it soccer 😄) world champion, multiple times field hockey world champions, multiple times handball world champions, I know its not baseball or basketball but even hockey (the NHL stuff) we are currently Vice-World Champion, ok Hockey is not a ball to be played I know that, but a popular sport.
I myself have played Football in Germany too and therefore be interested and follow the NFL since 1990´s. It was about time the NFL showed up in Germany. And from the last game in Munich you know my people can celebrate and there´s a wide fan base and support for this beautiful and exciting sport.
So, C U soon in Germany!
