    The problem is, the fall of Thousand Sons was never set in stone. Any number of factors could have prevented their fall. While I will not claim Magnus was faultless (he was quite reckless, if understandably given his inferiority complex and subsequent desire to prove himself), he DID have the best intentions in mind. Propero was probably the closest imperial realm to utopia, only rivaled in that regard by Ultramar. The Interex and Craftworld Aeldari demonstrate that civilizations of Psykers, possessed by knowledge of Chaos, could nonetheless be a stable society. Knowledge was not the enemy. Ultimately, if any of these groups had met the Thousand Sons before the tragedies that befell them and taught them restraint, then maybe tragedy would have been averted. If Magnus has stayed and delivered his message despite his blunder, perhaps the Emperor would not have delivered that fateful order, subsequently to be twisted by Horus. If Jaghatai Khan, Primarch of the similarly psychic White Scars, happened to be nearby to help temper his impetuous brother, maybe Magnus's recklessness would have been averted.
    Alas, peace does not sell plastic miniatures, so we will never know.

      Magnus did deliver his warming, Russ mentions it in Prospero Burns. And Horus never changed the orders, Russ gets them completely unchanged. Horus just sends one of his marines to convince Russ to kill Magnus, he doesn't change the orders.

    In Irish Mythology, the Ríastrad was Cúchulainn's fierce and terrifying transformation, in which his flesh contorted and he became hideous and berserk, but physically unstoppable. Though he wasn't Berserk all the time, there was that one time he fixed a castle's wall to its main hall after he walked through it. The point is, Ríastrad roughly translates for us to "Warp Spasm."
    Cúchulainn was the Soul Son and reincarnation of the finest high king of the Tuatha Dé Danann, Lugh Lámhada. While this figure fought for the spiritual destiny of all of Ireland's people, his race & Tribe pre-dated humans, and thus despite being the stuff of righteousness and masculinity, his essence was what caused the changes in Cúchulainn, for both his prodigious strength but also his horrific rage and form.

      @patrickdhamilton 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@bentaylor809 Magpies are members of the Corvus family of birds, which includes crows and more importantly, ravens. Those birds are noted for their intelligence and in particular for picking up lots of bits and odds and ends for making their nests and for tools; in other words, being hoarders.
      For a long time it has been hinted and alluded to the the Blood Ravens Chapter are descended from the Thousand Sons. They are noted for their strong desire for knowledge and in many Warhammer memes, for their tendency to collect all sorts of relics and equipment that shouldn’t belong to them. So like their name sake, they are intelligent and have a tendency to hoard things.

And of course it's Terran roots in ancient Achaemenid lands which lending an eventual fate of tradegy, betrayal, and loss. • @risa123456789
      @risa123456789 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The answer to that is always the Guard. They're the first response, and often last since there's not enough Chapters to go around in a galaxy of millions of worlds, space stations, asteroid mining stations etc. Astartes also often come to break the spine of the enemy, leaving the Guard to sweep up the rest, i.e. the routing mass of enemy making the majority of their numbers. As for the fleets, their greatest kill count has to be Exterminatus, but however much this option is brought up, it is a matter of last resolve.

    Magnus was a fool for thinking you could treat with Warp entities and not pay a cost.
    The Emperor warned him of the differences of sorcery and psycharna.
    Sorcery is making deals with warp entities.
    The Emperor forbade.

    • @lsamaknight
      @lsamaknight 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah. But the Emperor MADE the Thousand's Sons and Magnus to be the greatest (trans)human Psykers known apart from him. He KNEW what the risks were. He KNEW that Magnus was, as some like to call him, the Big Red Nerd. He KNEW knowledge and learning were among Magnus's defining personality traits. But he did not give them warning. He simply let them continue for a couple of centuries doing their thing and then suddenly turned around said "Stop doing the thing that I made you specifically to do." Of all the Primarch's who fell to Chaos, he bears the greatest greatest responsibility to Magnus. If he had bothered to take the time to explain himself (like had done for others like Constantin Valdor and Malcador) it might have been averted. But... he set Magnus up. Whether deliberately or by indifference, the Emperor bears the lion's share of the blame for Magnus's fall.

    • @markrtoffeeman

      @@lsamaknight Okay. And what should the Emperor have done? How could he warn Magnus--who grew up believing demons to be "merely" familiars and the Warp to "merely" be an ocean to study--of the Warp's dangers?
      "Son, these familiars of yours are dangerous demons, and their powers can harm you"?
      "Son, these powers are dangerous and must be used with guarded caution"?
      "Son, I alone know the true nature of things, and you most obey me"?
      That's exactly what was said at the Council of Nikea. The first thing is exactly what was told of Magnus by Mortarian. The second by Leman Russ. It failed to convince Magnus, who brushed Mortarian off as ignorant and Leman as afraid of progress. The third Magnus himself brings up in his counterargument, and calls it folly.
      It would have been no different for the Emperor. Magnus was doomed from the moment he landed on Prospero, and no amount of effort from the Emperor would have convinced Magnus otherwise. It is Magnus' nature, as you say, to be the Big Red Nerd who wants to learn. And Tzeentch hung Magnus with his own rope: The desire to know.
      Magnus is inherently unsaveable. He cannot be redeemed because it is by his very nature and upbringing that he is damned. Magnus' piece is one that would always fall, without fail, and switch sides in the Great Game.

    I've always wondered, we, the audience know that it was Horus who sent Leman Russ and the Space Wolves on the Thousand Sons under false pretenses to turn them traitor. Or at the very least neutralize a potentially troublesome Primarch and his legion. Magnus and the Thousand Sons weren't traitors. But in universe, does the Imperium know this? Do the Space Wolves know they were manipulated by Horus? Do they care if they know? From what I gather Magnus seems to know but doesn't care that the Space Wolves were under orders from Horus.

    • @Grubnar
      @Grubnar 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      After the Burning of Prospero, Russ came to understand just how Horus had played him like a fiddle, and he was ashamed of having been fooled like that, but I don't think he ever fully understood Magnus' point of view.
      Magnus on the other hand, knew what was going on, almost as soon as it happened, if not prior to the Burning of Prospero, then at the very least during it.
      But it was only after it all happened, when he had, for lack of a better word, been "fractured" by these events, that he came to see the betrayal of Russ and the Emperor as being far greater than that of Horus, and therefor joined the forces of the Traitors just before the Siege of Terra. It was not out of ignorance that he did so, but out of desire for revenge.
