      I still feel like season 3 regardless of any opinions on its quality felt like the end. Mandalore is reclaimed and Din and Grogu are united. The two characters feel they don’t have much story to tell and can just be supporting characters in other projects. Now we have the ideas of “thrawn can be the big bad, mythosaur etc” but how do those things serve the story of mando dad and grogurt? I see a lot of people talk about the tie ins to the wider universe but I don’t see a lot of talk about the two characters that made the mandalorian a hit. It was just these two characters and some low stakes that made season 1 a hit.

      @@CyberSonic-V3.0Fr, and you’re right like they’re trying to set up these shows like it’s the mcu being interconnected but obviously that wasn’t even a big emphasis in the beginning. Like I get it if they want to do one more thing but hype and trust are at an all time low and the only way I see them recovering is making new stories that are quality and not more milking. But let’s be honest that’s a big ass prayer that most of us don’t see coming true

      It’s basically a follow up to what Jango said with: “I’m just a simple man trying to make his way in the universe.” The Mandalorian takes that concept and explores it with Din who travels planet by planet, claiming his next bounty, and meeting all sorts of people whether it be friends or foes. That was the core of the show to me. I don’t know where any of this is going anymore. I remember in season 3 hating episode 3 because we randomly cut to this other character we only know little about and follow this boring side plot regarding the new republic. I don’t know whose idea it is but I hate the fact that these shows waste runtimes to focus on pointless characters and subplots; hijacking someone else’s story. It’s a scummy move. Book of boba fett and the mandalorian season 3 suffered because of this and it shows.

    Grogu actually growing up is what the Din/Grogu dynamic on the Mandalorian DESPERATELY needs. But Grogu is way too marketable just like he is. He is so marketable in stagnation that they couldn’t let Din/Grogu be separated for any meaningful length of time and they immediately reversed the ending of Season 2. There is no way Grogu is ever growing up and getting a meaningful arc, especially in movie form where Disney is banking on that marketability

    Honestly strongly disagree on the filter point about the Mandalorian. The episodes where nothing bigger happens but we just learn a little bit about everyday life in the starwars universe were fantastic! These are not mutually exclusive concepts. If the show is done well, then the world building can absolutely be part of the story. Look at Andor. No, you can't cut the spider cave scene without any loss of narrative. That scene is a part of Grogu's development, as he learns to have sympathy for that frog lady and her offspring, plus it establishes the relationship between Din Djarin and the Starfighter Captain, and of course deepening the relationship between Grogu and Din. It might seem like a pointless diversion, but it has it's place.

    • @FullFatVideos

      @@FullFatVideos Oh yeah you could move all that character development to another episode, but my point is what that episode gives the characters is some time to interact. Whether it's in the spider cave or cruising around in the Razorcrest, they still need to spend that time. The episode isn't wasted.

    • @VictorDiGiovanni
      @VictorDiGiovanni ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah. Force Awakens ruined it for the franchise, ironically. It making more than $2 Billion raised the minimum floor for a Star War. I fully believe they intended the Star Wars Story in-between movies to be lower-stakes (both plot and expected box office), but after $2B, anything less than $1.5B would be seen as a massive failure. That's why they had to go back and completely retool Rogue One. The original version, while I'm sure it was more cohesive and maybe even a better movie, was clearly not going to make $2B or even $1B, so they had to Vader it up and bump everything up to a more typical Star War. They've been chasing $2 Billion ever since, and it'll never achieve that level again unless it lies fallow for another fifteen years. I think going forward, $900 Million is going to be the ceiling for a Star Wars film, with $700 Million being what they will have to settle on as being a hit.

    The first season particularly eps 1-3,7-8 the actual ones that have a through line story, Have a small simple charm, I rewatch quite often, And I’ve found the reason why is because it’s entirely its own corner of the Star Wars universe, that’s why Andor I love so much, it’s completely different and focuses has confidence to be its own thing without relying on big names. Mando 2 I like but ages worse as the days go by, it should never have been tied in so heavily with Falonis world, cause it now makes you have to watch a bunch of other shows and it’s a spider web of disasterous proportions.
    I do believe bringing Luke in he had every right, as the only legacy character cause he’s the only Jedi around (Ahsoka died in rebels💀)… but they shit the bed, they should’ve announced a movie centred on mando and grogu while Luke was training him, could be a empire strikes back parallel story, seeing mando and grogu in their own, amazing. Anyway the Ahsoka show was a perfect example that putting in familiar faces with zero substance to get a temporary high will age like poo, that show is terrible. Wooden acting, terrible writing and directing. This mando movie shouldn’t have absolutely no connection to any of what Faloni is doing imo, be it’s own thing
    then when it’s time for mando to join we can see what he’s up to in the Faloni avengers style movie, I pretty much described what the MCU phase 1-3 did so well and it was creating separate stand alone films and the filmmakers don’t bog the story down in world building. That’s why I’ll sour if in andor 2 there’s more familiar characters and it loses its substance, that’s what Faloni would do if he took over andor, bunch of people we recognise who have zero character development and look pew pew action same old bullshit

    The one thing I have to strongly disagree on is the idea that seasons 1-2 had a filler problem. I think the show was often at its best when working in a more episodic fashion with relatively self-contained Adventure Of The Week type episodes. That was part of what made it feel so much like the classic western serials that inspired Star Wars to begin with. In fact I think moving to a more serialized, over arching narrative has actually been the shows biggest weakness in season 3. It couldn't deliver on the larger retaking Mandalore/fighting Moff Gideon plot because it's a show that shines when it's doing smaller scale, more personal stories.

  • @MCLegoboy
    @MCLegoboy ปีที่แล้ว +3

    The classic saying of "Cautiously Optimistic "comes to mind when I think about this movie. I don't get why it needs to exist, to be honest it almost sounds like it's just going to be the show compacted, but maybe there will be some essential stuff, too. And it's a shame that The Mandalorian was killed as the sleeper name of Grogu because of that one episode of Book of Boba Fett referring to Din as The Mandalorian. They should probably just rename this series The Mandalorians because then we can explore what it means to be one from the many different angles this show has taken us anyway. But whatever, can't have anything nice anymore.
    The most hyped stuff in Star Wars that I care about is animated anyway. Animated Star Wars has been going strong since 2008 (or really 2003 but I'm more focused on Lucasfilm Animation than outsourced stuff), and say what you will about Resistance, but when you can just watch it instead of going week to week, it's a pretty decent show. The Bad Batch has been one of my favorite things in Star Wars as of late, Tales of the Jedi promises to be even better as it goes on with more diverse characters taking the focus over Ahsoka (I sure hope that's the case anyway), and while not made by Lucasfilm Animation specifically, Young Jedi Adventures is weirdly enjoyable despite being a preschooler show, and neither am I in that demographic or know anyone that would be in that demographic. And let's not forget Star Wars Visions, which while not canon has given us some great stories, too. Everyone complained how the Ahsoka series wasn't like Andor, but I don't want everything to be like Andor, and nor do I want everything to be live action either because if it weren't for tying into all the Mando-Verse stuff, I think Ahsoka would have been even better (I quite enjoyed it as is, but still) if it were animated because of how much it tied into Rebels' open ended Finale. The Bad Batch ends with this upcoming Season, and I'm more excited for not only it, but whatever may come after it than more of the Mando-Verse shows. That doesn't mean I think they're bad, I like that they pull from everything and make a more cohesive world than the Sequels, but animation, while taking more time, has just given me the stories I'm more interested in, stories I didn't even know I wanted, they can be a bit more liberal with the physics and it not look weird, and the characters and worlds can be more fantastical than you'd ever see in live action (just as an example, the Pykes are terrible in live action but are great in animation). You couldn't get away with Quick-Draw Quasar in live action, and we know this because it happened back in Attack of the Clones, but in Bad Batch, 2 seconds of this racecar driver with a battle droid head on a protocol droid body gives me the giggles and I love him.
    And I'm sure that Disney's hesitant to greenlight any Star Wars animated movies, but it's been over 15 years since the Clone Wars movie that never should have been a movie, let's actually make a dedicated Star Wars movie that can only be animated and get more people interested in this side of Star Wars that way than ripping characters from animation and putting them in live action shows. Do it the other way and make an essential piece of the Mando-Verse animated just to mess with people. Or continue the Solo plot thread with an animated story focusing on Maul and Qi'ra because I know people want more, but I don't know how well that's going to translate in live action because of how much dubbing needs to be done for Ray Park, and Maul clearly works better in animation anyway. There's always comics and books, but that's just even more niche stuff, animation is the best thing for people that don't want to read to see stories play out, and it's flexible enough to allow for any story to be put on screen that live action just can't, or at least would be too prohibitively expensive with photoreal CGI. More love for Star Wars animation from the general public please!

    Not going to lie, grogu should have just stayed with Luke. Season 2 perfectly tied up his story with djin and season 3 should have been djin becoming mandolore. Grogu isn’t a character but a prop. It doesn’t help that djin also isn’t much of a character either but that could have changed.

      When Season 2 ended, I figured Grogu would remain on the show but in a separate storyline from Din. The whole thing is beyond played out. Originally, Boba Fett was a ruthless bounty hunter, even though he didn’t pose much of a threat to Luke. Not knowing much about him, made the universe feel big. KOTOR expanded on Mandalorians and they come across as a different culture there, and actually feel warlike, who regarded lives as disposable.
    Then came Filoni and they went from lame to lamer. Then they decided to make the posterboy of Mandalorians a fairly sensitive dad guy who is mostly saved by plot armor and invincible Beskar armor. The lore became pretty dumb and barren. There is just the armor-smith lady and a handful of often repeated phrases and concepts. I guess going fishing in real life is more detailled and varied than bounty hunting. Bounty Hunters should have inventive technology, “best practices”, connections, perhaps profession-rules and so on.
    So instead of a “exception of the rule” with the stoic and brutal warrior who bonds with a child, Din Djarin is more of a “nice guy” and he’s so prominent and on the poster that his “the way” is now the typical. Another adventure with a child sounds incredibly boring and unexciting. Grogu as more than a temporary mcguffin sounds terrible. When they seriously now introduce several Jedi-Mandalorians, and one Yoda-Jedi-Mandalorian. I just cringe. It’s very unfortunate development of a once amazing franchise. This has nothing anymore that made the universe so great back then.

    IMO we were in for a rough ride the minute Disney gave Mando an episode of Boba Fett's show so he could reunite with Grogu. It displays Disney's inability to prioritize (seeing as they have to plug another character's show in Boba Fett's) and they're incapable of being content with a complete story arc (Din learning to let go of the child he's been raising for 2 years).

    I want them to do something contemplative and existential with this movie, but I'm getting more and more worried the inherent quality of the first two seasons was a fluke, born about by Filoni having proved himself with animated stuff but still having the freedom to do something new. 'Baby Yoda' is part of the brand now, which means he'll always be a cute and marketable baby, except for maybe a tacked on epilogue to some future movie or show, or possibly a comic if we're talking a decade+ later.

    New time period, new characters, new stakes. Tell a new space opera! Stick within the parameters of what Star Wars "is" but break free of all the oppresive canon.

    LucasArts was an unsung hero here in keeping the brand in public memory with games (of varying qualities) coming out pretty much every year. Even if not that many people played it, there was always some cool shit coming out just around the corner and they usually innovated somewhere and weren't a reskin (notable exception star wars II: -The Age of Kings- galactic battlegrounds). If they retire the band completely for several years, they'll end up being like the world of darkness after CCP held the IP and have to rebuild from the brand wilderness, starting with getting people under 30 to show up

    Make Grogu the main character of Star Wars forever (seeing as he can live for 100s of years) and have the story take place in order and focus on new threats and stories.
    Enough of this bouncing all over the place storytelling that they've been doing since the begining with characters that we know are either going to die or just go away and never be seen again.
    Why does every main character need to be some boring human when you can have an alien msin character that could live for hundreds of years, travel the galaxy making new friends and then have to let them go as he will outlive them: always running and never looking back because he dare not out of fear: and fear leads to the Dark Side.

    In my opinion it can’t be just Jon Favereau . He needs Filoni’s Star Wars show experience just as much as Dave needs Favereau’s live action directing experience. After Mando S1, Disney put so many projects onto both of them and the projects suffered. Eventually, we got Boba Fett with minimal Filoni input, and Ahsoka with little Faverau involvement, and both were worse for it… A creator should never be trapped in one medium, and Filoni has been doing Star Wars for almost 20 years now, but it is clear that his work with Animation is better than his attempts at live action, and I think the Bad Batch premiere shows that.
    SPOILERS!!
    It also shows just how trapped all Star Wars projects are right now by having to world build backwards to prop up The Rise of Skywalker and the dumb decisions that were made there regarding the return of Palpatine…

    I agree that the movie feels like a desperate financial decision more then a creative choice, but I disagree with a few of your points. Grogu being the mandolorian in the title is not accurate. Sure Grogu will probably become a mando at some point, probably in the movie or season 4, but Dinn is still THE mandolorian. Dinn who brought people back to mandalore. Another thing I disagree with is your no more filler as a pro. This is because Mandolorian is at its best when he is just hunting random bountys and doing quests that arent super entrenched in an overall story, this is why season 1 was so good, and what i assume you may see as filler. Its like with early seasons of Rick and Morty where there is a big story episode at the beginning and end, and for the most part they do various unrelated things for the most part in the middle of the season
