FLSUN Speeder Pad review: Control 3 printers at the same time, Buy Speeder Pad or Creality Sonic Pad

  • Welcome back to Aurora Tech Channel. Today, I will be reviewing the FLSUN speeder pad, which looks pretty similar to the Creality Sonic Pad. The major hardware differences between these 2 pads are that the Sonic Pad has 2GB RAM, 8GB ROM, 4 USB ports, and a power button, while this Speeder Pad has 1GB RAM, 16GB ROM, 3 USB ports and no power button. Besides that, features like the processor, the 7” touchscreen, accelerometer, and the rest of the hardware are pretty much the same. As for the software, the Speeder pad runs the Mainsail web interface and the Sonic pad runs Fluidd by default, but you can also launch MainSail using another port number. For printer profiles, the Speeder pad comes with 4 FLSUN printer profiles, including the V400, Super Racer, QQ S-Pro, Q5, and 5 types of common printer profiles. The sonic pad comes with 22 Creality printer profiles and a tool that allows you to generate firmware files for different printers.
I reviewed FLSUN’s latest machine, the V400 a few months ago. The V400 runs Klipper and prints as fast as 400mm/s with an 8k acceleration with pretty good print quality. Like some of you, I still have an older FLSUN Super Racer, which is also a pretty fast printer, but it’s limited by the Marlin firmware and the slow on-board processor, so it can only print up to a 150-200mm/s speed with a 3k acceleration, so it may not print as fast as the V400. I was wondering if adding a speeder pad to run Klipper firmware will make the Super Racer work as well as the V400, so we are going to find out today.
Additionally, the speeder pad claims it can control 3 printers at the same time, so I will hook up some other non-FLSUN printers like a basic Ender-3 and an Ender-3 S1 and see how it does.
I would like to thank FLSUN for sending me the speeder pad to review, and with that, let’s get started.

Hi @Aurora Tech I was just wondering about how much a "Klipperized" SuperRacer could get closer to a V400, so this video is great timing!
Just one thing of note here; I've already bought both a Speeder Pad and a Sonic Pad. And the Retail version of FLSUN's Speeder Pad doesn't actually ship with an accelerometer. I was very surprised to see it missing in the box, but before I filed a complaint with the seller, I googled a bit to see if it's actually supposed to ship without. Sam Prentice's video on the Speeder Pad confirmed that retail, it indeed does not ship with either the accellerometer, or the stand. These are just for review samples it seems.
Also, the Sonic Pad has a bespoke port and cable for the accelerometer in the P/S2 form factor. Whilst the SpeederPad uses USB. So these can not be used interchangeably between the Pads.
    :)

Amazing video review as always. I purchased my Flsun Speeder Pad about five months ago. It has been a complete "turd" and a waste of money. No support at all from Flsun and it does not come with the accelerometer. They do not offer it as an option to purchase. Only reviewers on social media got the accelerometer. If I could do it over I would not have spent money on the Speeder Pad at all. It has been sitting in a box for months and I can't return it and nobody will even buy it from me for half the price.

My pet peef is companies using the word ROM to describe onboard Flash storage. ROM stands for Read Only Memory. You cannot store anything there. That is where firmware is stored. SSD and HDD is storage. I am sure someone in a foreign country translated it wrong, and now we are stuck with this oxymoron.

Intersting results, i was expecting a bigger increase but it makes sense the speed is hardware limited, bowden tube vs direct drive/ all metal hotend etc play a factor. Without a hardware upgrade maybe machine learning could produce an algorthim that finds the best settings for your model, and even applies them dynamicly so when your model has long walls it changes the settings to match, whereas right now if im not mistaken the settings dont change throughout the whole model which probably slows things down when its not needed to be. Ultimately being able to change the nozzel size on the fly would be ideal so you can really speed up on infills with thick layering and slow down with a smaller nozzel for finer detail but that tech doesnt exist yet so in the meantime... im guessing a machine learned or script even could maybe cut down print times on all these printers that are printing at one setting throughout the whole model. Some kind of intelligent AI model analzyzer (slicer basically) that can find the best settings for your model and apply them dynamically. Maybe could eek out another 20-30% speed boost sort of how like AI upscaling in gaming gives us a free performance boost.

Another awesome video thank you but I have a a couple of questions that maybe you can make a video on and share with us newbies. I have a QQS-Pro running with a speeder pad, Question 1 is on the top of the speeder pad is a slot for a micro sd card it is recessed really low in the unit and very hard to put in a sd card and remove but, what is this used for?? I thought if you don't have wifi you can put your stl file on a sd card and insert it here instead but does not seem to work. How to you get stl files onto the speeder pad now that the original machine slot is not used anymore. Question 2 is why do some of the icons from the stl print file show up in red or yellow on the speeder pad screen ??? is this related to the filament i.e PLA is yellow and TPU is red ??? Question 3 is can I see my printer from a webcam while using another internet connection like while at work ?? my ip is not 192.168.etc. its 10.0.1.etc should I add the 7125 ??? can you please help and clear up some of these things that are confusing. Many Thanks keep up the great reviews love watching your unbiased opinion. Wayne, Western Australia

Hey Aurora, I’ve watched this video a bunch of times. Made me order the speeder pad for my SR.
I think there should be a note added to your video as all consumer versions of the speeder pad come with nothing other than the pad and a power cable.
Unlike the Creality Sonic Pad which comes with a USB to connect to the printer and an accelerometer. Speeder pad has neither.
Your video shows that you got an accelerometer, but that seems to be only influencers who got those.

ROM? I believe it has NAND Flash which is writeable! if Klipper were written to a ROM you would not be able to save any adjustments to the Klipper FW.

Hi, I have a flsun V400 which of course comes with a FLSUN Speeder Pad. I also have two FLSUN-SR's which I wanted to Klipperise and run from the speeder pad. I followed your youtube video and was able to control all three printers from the speeder pad. However, accessing the speeder pad over the LAN using the Mainsail app, I can only see the V400 which is connected to the USB port 1 on the Speeder Pad. If I try and add a printer in Mainsail, it only wants to know the IP address and port number. Is there something else that I need to do to allow Mainsail to see all three printers?

I'm extremy happy with my SR running version 1.4 .So if I'm correct this add on is speed orientated With a input shaper feature , So my ? Is why is it necessary at all .I mean I printed a torture toaster which printed great .

    • @YourLocalRaccoon
      @YourLocalRaccoon ปีที่แล้ว +1

It's more about that Klipper can use more advanced features. Your torture toaster came out nearly perfect, but that's probably all the better you'll ever get it with Marlin. If the price is worth it to you, switching to Klipper will give you that last 2.5% that marlin can't handle. Faster acceleration and speed, more fine tuned and precise control, more accurate hotend and bed temperature control, input shaping that allows those higher speeds with the same or better print quality, Klippers version of linear advance for getting those nice sharp corners. That's all not to mention controlling more than one printer from one single place, as well as much much better remote control for when you want to check on/change/start/stop a print when you're away (octoprint can do some of this remote stuff but mainsail/fluidd has more features).
If you're happy with Marlin then by all means continue with it! I know I am for sure. But in the future I see more and more printers coming stock with Klipper or having a much easier/cheaper way of implementing Klipper.

Also, your own benchy in your Super Racer review printed at 32 minutes (again, NO Speeder Pad). Now here the Speeder Pad is giving you a 41 minute benchy on the Super Racer. So this is actually slowing your machine down??? (more like a brake pad than a "Speeder" pad...)

Well, I was, and still am, curious as to whether or not you could use up more of that CPU's overhead that way.
      On the other issue.
      1. It's not pertinent to the topics you cover.
      2. It increases your personal risk.
Stranger danger may be overblown, but it is still a valid concern. Even adults generally don't post their location on their videos, unless it is relevant to the topics they cover. If I were a betting man, I'd even go so far as to wager your parents hadn't realized you'd made the change to your account to indicate your approximate, city-level, location. Claim the state, if you must; I can understand both state and civic pride, and the desire to "represent", and you are an exemplary representative for every quality that is known or inferrable about you; but I'd recommend against giving away more information than that.
In short, it's not needed by your legitimate audience, and you don't need the creeps and weirdos to have it. Especially any creeps or weirdos that live within commuting distance already.
