i love her reactions in the beginning, you can tell she loves her job :) ears up and ready to go! she seems very willing and trusting of you as well :),
She was busy looking around at everything at the start of the cross country. She must have thought, 'you got that wrong human, we go back to the lorry after the show jumping for a breather, then do the cross country'... but she was still up for it! Love my little madam :)
Hayley Aldon She was feeling rather fit and keen at that one! The optimum times can be tricky. At this one we were 17 seconds under but in a comp a level up I would probably have been a bit too slow. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Thank you! It's no fun if you have to force the horse... as long as Pigeon keeps enjoying it I will keep enjoying it! And when she feels like she is not happy I then have the joy of figuring out why - sore back, dental issue, saddle not fitting, just being a bit naughty (very unlikely) etc etc??? Ah, horse ownership! :-)
Hi ViNaaAV! Thank you for getting in touch and giving me such positive feedback - I love making my videos and it is great to hear that people like to watch them :) Your videos are brilliant (especially for other beginners to watch and see how much you improve with each lesson - my husband is also learning and he enjoyed watching your videos too)... Keep going with your riding! It is one of the best hobbies and different from any other sport where the equipment does not breathe! :-)
I love it when you say "go!" and she's like "WHEEE! ruun!" haha, too cute! you seem like an extremely caring horseowner, love how you talk to her all the time. excellent rider as well :)
I do have a special camera (a GoPro) and it comes with lots of mounting options - clips that stick to your helmet etc. I use their helmet strap which holds the camera pretty snug although it is not recommended for high impact sport - which riding is if you fall off! :) There are cheaper makes of helmet camera on Ebay as well! Thanks for commenting!
I love how your not just using motions to tell pigeon what to do but your also saying it cause I ride too and I find that sometimes when you just use motions to tell horses what to do they sometimes get confused and you taught me to use both motions and words when riding so thanks
Well done!, you are such a good rider!!! I have honestly been checking every day to see if you have uploaded another video of you and pigeon (no matter what it is) good riding as always! (sorry you knocked a pole down) GO PIGEON! x
Hahahah!!! Fear not, there are plenty more helmet cam videos from xc comps on my channel and I have resolved the battery issue I was having last year. So plenty more to come in the near future :)
Well done - I'm really pleased for you! Rosette for your first time at dressage - can't be bad :) You can enjoy the jumping now... I don't know how people do pure dressage only... I think I'd go mad!! lol xxx
This is so good to watch!!! Your both amazing! I watched your elm wood vids prior to going there and the go pro make some of the xc seem so much smaller haha! Xx
I really hope that helps a bit and it goes well. Please please please let me know how you get on - I bet it won't be as bad as you think! Be positive, you can do it! I’ll be thinking of you and sending positive vibes on Sunday! Alex :-) xxx [I am done!]
Hi Vicky! Firstly - I know how you feel!!! Every time it’s the dressage that has me the most nervous which means I get tense and pigeon gets tense and it all goes wrong :( So try to relax about it (I know that's easier said than done)! Make sure you learn the test (even if you are having it read - TH-cam can help with that) and ride it through in your mind as many times as you can! Visualising a positive performance has been proven in sports psychology to be a massive help! [More coming...]
At this level the judge is looking for a relaxed horse moving forwards in a consistent rhythm with balance and suppleness. My final thought would be to remember it’s meant to be fun! This is your first time so there's no pressure to do better than last time or get placed or anything! Smile at the judge (that should help to trick your brain into relaxing too) and breathe... It's only a few minutes of your life and if you hate it you never have to do it again! [just a little more...]
Yes, I couldn't resist buying the video from Total Recall and I suspected I had lost some footage (the camera suddenly started beeping at me). Not sure how it will turn out, I don't think I'm the prettiest rider xc.
Hi again! U were so right!! Sunday went great! I'm still in the process of posting the vid but it was amazing! Biscuit is 21 years old so he was a bit slow in the walk and trot but we came 6th with 56.96% so I'm very happy! But I think I'll stick to jumping! Lol
Yep, I'm aware and as Emma said its hard work! The oxygen demand on the body increases xc to maintain the physic tone and mental sharpness you need (especially on a fast round in the heat). Best way to get more oxygen in is to deepen and increase breathing (people having panic attacks tend to take quick shallow breaths - that's why they hyperventilate... need more oxygen). Hope the panting didn't stop you enjoying the video! ;-)
Try to imagine yourself in the saddle riding each movement perfectly - put as much detail in as possible, imagine how each stride will feel and don't rush the test! If you find that hard imagine watching yourself ride the perfect dressage test instead (it sounds mad but it really does trick the human brain into recreating the same performance on the day). Don’t look at the other horses when you are warming up and don't get obsessed with having the horse’s head in. [and some more...]
I don't have a clue what I'm doing out in that arena!! When I was 7 up till I was 9 I did lead rein shows! (I'm 13 now) I've never been in a show arena by myself before! I've never done dressage before! What if I mess it up? Or miss something that the judge has told me to do?! I feel sick! I couldn't sleep last night coz I'm so nervous! But it's a once in a lifetime chance for me so I don't wanna turn it down! :( Please help if you can with some advice or something!
Hi Alex, me again! Could you give me some help on XC eventing please? I am doing a two phase (SJ and XC) this Saturday coming (23rd) and I was wondering how on earth do you know where to go?? I don't want to get lost haha the course looks so jumbly I don't know where to start! Also, when you stand in the pen waiting to go, when they get to count down to 1 do u just flat out gallop to your first fence from there? I'm mainly just worried on getting lost! Thanks. :)
Hi, I think your an amazing rider! But could u maybe please help me with something? Today is Thursday and on Sunday I'm doing the simple British Dressage Intro B 2009 (walk and trot) test but I'm totally freaking out!!
This competition is an Eventers Challenge. An Eventers Challenge has a round of show jumping followed right away by a cross country course. There is no dressage in this competition :)
Wow - thanks! I don't think that can be true though :) Be sure to check our website and facebook page for more photos and info about Pigeon! The links are on my channel :-)
I'm not trying to sound rude or bossy or negative or telling her how to ride, but woah means stop. I think the word you're looking for is "easy" or "steady".
She said steady several times, and what words she trains her horse with is her business. I use woah to move down one gait (eg.canter to trot, trot to walk, walk to halt.)
Rex888dA I know right!?! Unfortunately they provide an optimum time for these shows now based on an average speed they expect the horse to manage depending on the level. In 3 phase eventing you are allowed to go 15 seconds under the optimum time without penalties, but in these Eventer Challenge comps you get penalized for going over or under by 1 second or more... oh, and you are not allowed a stop watch! You have to be able to gauge the speed of your horse (which I can if I am not enjoying myself too much to care or remember - LOL). Thanks for watching :)
A Horse Called Pigeon O.o Doesn't that take the fun out of it though? Oh, and glad to know pigeon is doing better :D I did get that right didn't I, she is okay?
Haha glad I'm not the only one who constantly talks to my horse when jumping!
At least if you are talking you know you are breathing! ;-)
It least I am not the only won the talks to the horses which I ride tow
i love her reactions in the beginning, you can tell she loves her job :) ears up and ready to go! she seems very willing and trusting of you as well :),

Ok i have watched your videos for so long I am a champ at counting her strides 😂😊
Me too😂😂😂
batman ninja thought I was the only one😂😂
I love how you actually talk to her to calm her down not just jerk the reins. she looks super feisty!
bless your heart. the was a helluva of a course. congratulations on the great ride.
You treat your horse, Pigeon, so well and I LOVE you for it!!!!
I love how you tell her to look at the jump and to focus, it's so cute! Awesome job!
I love this, I love how you talk calmly to your horse throughout!

I love how you reassure your horse the whole time.....

Nooooooo!!!!!!!! That was so good!!!! Darn you battery power!!!!! Stay fit like the horse & rider batter!!!!!!
Hahahah!!! Fear not, there are plenty more helmet cam videos from xc comps on my channel and I have resolved the battery issue I was having last year. So plenty more to come in the near future :)
Pigeon is an Irish Sport Horse! Thanks for watching :)

This looks like so much fun! I love how she responds to your go faster aids :D
It's a GoPro HD Helmet hero (the original one but there are lots of different models now)! Have fun with it :)
Well done - I'm really pleased for you! Rosette for your first time at dressage - can't be bad :) You can enjoy the jumping now... I don't know how people do pure dressage only... I think I'd go mad!! lol xxx

Nah - I just hang on and try to remember the course (I don't always manage either, lol)! Thanks for watching :)
I have waited so long for this I LOVE Pigeon
3:44 i have this to, it's like you can't control your breath haha
Briënne me too especially after riding and then when my trainer talks to me he thinks im crying cuz of my weird breathing😂😂
That happens to me to😂
LOL! I was so into the video when the batteries died. She is such a good girl and in such good physical condition! Nice ride.
Thanks for the sub and the comments! Pigeon is 16 hand btw :-)
I love how you speak to her , lovely horse:)
I'm sure it was Blidworth that won... will check when the results are up online! x
I love how you talk to her throughout
I really hope that helps a bit and it goes well. Please please please let me know how you get on - I bet it won't be as bad as you think! Be positive, you can do it! I’ll be thinking of you and sending positive vibes on Sunday!

So sorry I didn't respond to this in time for your event!!! How did it go? Did you remember your course ok? x
Spunky pidgeon haha! She is really for it for 15-16yrs old! How is she doing now?
She's very well thanks (if a bit fat and muddy)... it's my turn to be ill at the moment (full of cold)!
Me too, I'm coughing my head off right now. Well that's what riding on the winter does to you
Gypsy a pony I'm blaming the matinee performance of the Lion King at the weekend. Too many small germ ridden children! ;-)
Thanks Georgie x
Your click is so loud! How do u do that? I'd love to do my click like that lol I seriously would!
You have a beautiful horse
Thanks Anne... I think she's rather cute, but I am biased!
"aaww but you woke me up early!.............cross country? i'm in!"
Hi, I think your an amazing rider! But could u maybe please help me with something? Today is Thursday and on Sunday I'm doing the simple British Dressage Intro B 2009 (walk and trot) test but I'm totally freaking out!!

Hahahaha.... I have no idea!
What breed is she?
How old is Pigeon?
very good ride! well done u two!
just seen you in horse and hound congrats!! :D

Horses wouldn't know that off the get go. It's what you teach them xx
GREAT STUFF!!! WHAT FUN.
That is good show
Ah, I like you! Sorry to hear you have been unwell - all better now I hope :)
I love pigeon - she is so cute an
I love you horse show video i like jumping
Thank you :)
Yay, thanks! So much fun :-) x
Why do you have to be slower!? I thought the fastest wins?
Rex888dA I know right!?! Unfortunately they provide an optimum time for these shows now based on an average speed they expect the horse to manage depending on the level. A Horse Called Pigeon O.o Doesn't that take the fun out of it though?
Oh, and glad to know pigeon is doing better :D I did get that right didn't I, she is okay?
Rex888dA So far so good! I guess the time rules came in because people were a bit crazy and dangerous when it was simply fastest time wins! :)
A Horse Called Pigeon That makes sense!
Hahaha, thank you! I think we enjoyed that a bit too much... 17 seconds too fast - oops! :)
Awesome*
Thanks for reply and great video ;-)
You too - although I prefer 'horseome'... hahaha! :)
Awesome congratulation!!!! :-)
Awese
Or, horseome! lol x
I! As its bloody hard work!!!' Not coz she is having a panic attack!!!!!
No of course it didn't stop me but I have never heard anyone else breathe that heavily ;)
Are you aware you sound like your having a panic attack around cross country courses, why is it that you breathe so heavily?
Hahaha she breathes heavy... As do
Don't let the horse rush the jumps
i love how you talk to her during the course and the xc!
