Use the other satellites. It decreases the fluctuation quite a bit. You can shoot grade right beside a building, along the wall or under a narrow bridge. Helps a ton. Some HyperVRs have the tilt feature option as well. Helps a ton doing topo shots in big earth moving jobs. I mount the rover on the roof of the UTV and just turn on auto-topo. Saves a ton of time. 🤣

Chubet! Them surfaces only having points every so often at 40 mph in that side by side! 😂

That’s pretty cool, I would like to learn more about the gps system.

when you went around the site and shot all the grades, how do i record that info into the system? do you just create a new control point for each spot you shot grade on?

You save the topo shots to a layer. It’s important to keep your layers organized. Make separate layers for your utility locate marks and color code them accordingly. Organization is efficiency, efficiency is money earned.
Control points are only shot in to localize the project and shouldn’t be tampered with after that is completed. You can stake out to a control point to verify accuracy but thats about all you need them for once localized. Hope that answers your question.

I’m a grader operator and this is the same system we use. Do you know of a way to document a surface check? For instance, I need to show my GC that the dirt grade is off by comparing it to my surface. I can see when I perform a surface check that their grade isn’t correct, but do you know of a way to document this where it will show the cuts/fills and I can put it into email form? Thanks!

We run into the same problem all the time!
Do you have access to magnet software thru topcon as well?
I would shoot two different surfaces. Overlay them within 3D live to show the gc the difference.
Let us know what you have and hopefully we can help.
Better get thru his head now, because we a CO will wake everyone up. 🤣😂

I don’t have access to magnet. I was able to build another surface and compare the 2 using Pocket 3D. It took me awhile because I’d never tried it before, and now I’ve got to figure out a way to convert it to a file type that I can email, but I’m on the right track!
I’ll talk to the bossman about getting Magnet.

@@DandRoeOnthego hey Dan, in the surface comparison function in Calc Wizard, there should be an option to download a text report you can export off P3D as a .txt or other format to show cut/fill #'s. Magnet has a ton of file export options in comparison to P3D. I don't believe you can export the graphical representation of the comparison, but if there was a separate office CAD program they could import your data
There is a new version of Pocket3D out v15.2 that is friendly in the field aspect but similar. If you have an existing license for v12, you can have a fully activated v15.2 for no additional $. I sell Topcon 3DMC in the SE for validity lol. Hope this helps and I apologize in advance if you already knew some of that info

@@Sy-Con its not magnet field though is it?!? doesn't look like it anyway, looks more like the machine control system than magnet field. Everything would be so much more simpler in magnet field.

How do you delete a control point?

    • @Freedom17762
      @Freedom17762 15 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

You can just select the control point and delete it, or turn off the control point so it isn’t being used. Typically you don’t delete them because without them you will have to do a localization all over again. The fewer control points you have, the less accurate your model will be.

Good luck being competitive with a horse and buggy to haul dirt and old school transit. I have 20 years experience as a grade setter and gps is the only way to go if you want to be efficient.
