Thanks to you, I bought E55 amg, 2005 model. Greeting from Finland. I've been watching your videos since early 2019 and I've been dreaming about AMG since then and finally it is dream come true, thank you for this opportunity.
I absolutely love the steering wheel....I don't think it looks tacky at all, it looks like it's really well made with nice materials. I agree, it was smart to NOT go with carbon on it. I think once you get the rest of the interior a bit of an update, it will look even better. Perhaps that's why some don't love it as much, because it's so upgraded compared to the rest of the interior which stock is a bit out of date. Some minor tweaks and it will match perfectly, and really bring everything together. Get the new head unit, can't go wrong with a big touchscreen, new shift knob, and some new trim pieces or something along those lines. Wood grain actually Is a nice change, but that silver around the shifter looks cheap.... For the record I love what you've done with the E55 so far, and it brings me closer and closer to actually getting one (or an E63 or another AMG in that range). Keep up the great work and more vids!
Replace the shift knob - with fresh unmolested black leather. And brand new fresh black AMG floor mats and finally degrease the seats 💺 so they don’t look so shiny. Bam 💥 - lookin’ like a million bucks! Or 90k - whichever is clever 😉

That wheel is perfect. The leather looks OEM and the carbon fiber wheel would’ve looked like an obvious bolt-on. Not that a bolt-on look is bad but I like the understated classy look like yourself.

Looks amazing. At first I thought it may b ever the top but after a while it does look super sweet. I put an M3 steering wheel on my 335D and it made a huge difference.
Agreed, it's a beautiful wheel, but having driven a few older cars with alcantara wheels, they get really gross really fast, sucking up all the skin oils and such off your hands. If you don't mind spending a lot of time and effort regularly cleaning it's probably not so bad, but lets be realistic, most people don't bother because cleaning alcantara properly is fiddly and time consuming.

Personally, looks cheesy to me.. I don't know how you get the idea that it suits... and those buttons that couldn't be replaced just make it look tacky. But hey, in the eye of the beholder I suppose. Would prefer a wood grain steering wheel to match the rest of the interior.
No worries, we all have our own thing going on. I personally think the wood grain is too old of a look and doesn't fit an AMG. But I like it in a big luxury cruiser that isn't performance oriented. I was a little worried I wouldn't like the Alcantara. I was originally just going to do the perforated leather. Kind of took a chance and I really like it. Thanks for watching the video. Alex

Those wood trims would look superb wrapped in alcantara to match the wheel! Easy to do too. Much classier than fake carbon wrap. But I know what you mean about liking the wood trim in that shade. I have the same but darker in my old E46 BMW wagon. I swapped it all out for alu silver but then swapped it back! The subdued dark colours are much cooler.
So glad you're working on the interior, I have a W211 and been thinking about changing the arm rest console and the stereo. Can't wait for those videos!
That's not just any "repair manual" for a Mercedes, that's WIS, which is the same software the dealerships use! That software was literally made from the ground up for Mercedes Benz, and will tell you step by step any repair you will ever need to do and any special tools needed for that job. It's fantastic software, but takes bit of a learning curve to learn all it's features. Another good program to pair WIS with is EPC. It's the parts catalog that has lists the parts breakdown for every individual component in your car and shows the part number, and any revisions done up to modern day.
Looking for some opinions, I'm currently looking a used 05 E55 AMG here's the full ad description: "Hey I’m helping my friend sale he’s 2005 Mercedes-Benz E55 amg he just moved out the state. It has 220k miles on it, this amg is not your regular stock one.The engine was rebuilt and tuned and is pushing 600+hp with a clean title. The engine has 35k miles on it, the car does need some fixing up in the interior. The headliner is coming down in the back, the steering wheel leather is coming off at the top and there’s a black dot on the touchscreen and the A/C fan clutch needs to be replaced and last thing is it just need new rear tires. Other then that the car is in good shape, no dents on the car the paint is good and leather seats are good as well. He does have a loan on it and the pay off is 6k. Also like your steering wheel as well, with maybe the exception of the contouring around palm rest area. That I think looks a little too aggressive for a Mercedes, maybe it's just me getting old...

The trick of making a good steering wheel is making it look better than oem without losing that oem look and this just looks cheap when im sure it isnt.

Have to say I'm Jealous about that steering wheel. Gorgeous. I have reservations about alcantera in regards to longevity in a steering wheel. That said, if I could ever find a way to pull the trigger on something that expensive I'd go flat bottomed all the way....with the carbon fibre to match my gear shifter lol. Also, I swapped out the Nav display as you plan to. There are certain difficulties it would be fantastic to trouble shoot for your subscribers. I look forward to it!
I have a similar car but not an amg, it's hard to find an affordable Radio Android to give the car an upgrade. It took away so much of my money to repair it. I was frustrated and almost done with it but I found a mechanic in the city I now live and he has helped me out a great deal. My goats ruined the paint and would climb on it. My back lights are cracked from an old accident I had, got hit from the back.

Not so much sold on that new center console you're talking about, because I think cup holders (at least visible ones) will take away the elegance and cleanliness out of the saloon. Perhaps you could get another small detail wrapped up in alcantara to tie together with the steering wheel, but be subtle.

You should get the E63 shifter as well, it has alcantara on the front that will match well with the alcantara on the steering wheel
Kelvin, That's what I thought - some other detail wrapped in alcantara to tie in with the steering wheel. The shifter is a great idea.

Nice upgrade, but Alcantara usually doesn't age well. Great job not getting carbon fiber and opting for a nice look close to stock.

The car looks amazing after the paint correction and the ceramic coating. The steering wheel matches the interior very well.
