It's so humbling to see people take interest in Roddy's style and techniques (like Thomas Pridgen and Curt Bisquera). That's what drumming between friends is all about. Sharing ideas, admiring different walks of musical life. Also, the drums sound great!
We like that you thought that this is one of the best videos you've ever seen! Thomas has those skills along with plenty of other skills. Thanks for watching!
I feel like Thomas is the drummer that I see struggle more than anyone. He constantly steps out of his comfort zone in drum "solos" and tries to play something new. He never stops pushing himself, not even in front of an audience. And if he messes up he doesn't back down onto something comfortable that he knows he can play. Once he's though up a new groove, he won't stop til he's got it down. Much respect.
Honestly, just watching Thomas Pridgen trying out metal and blast beats reminds me about what it means to be a real drummer. There are so many different genres and each person has their own style, so it's dumb to label a better or best drummer. A true musician doesn't compete with others to see who's better, he simply learns from wherever he can to complete his or her own style.
Yeah, one of the coolest videos. Drumming veterans having fun. Blast beats ain't that easy, obviously. Like how Derek shows Thomas and Curt his Hellish Blasts. And they appreciate it! Cool
What a great video.. I met Derek once when the music store I work at hosted a couple of clinics for him. Really awesome guy, genuine and modest... Top notch dude...
@anunstealthynacho Never any stupid questions!! A Finish Ply finish is a wrapped venneer around the shell. A Lacquer finish is painted directly on the shell of the drum.
I sincerely hope young drummers see this video as an example of drummers from different genres and backgrounds simply having fun and not showing off in comparison to who can do what..Good job DW, at leaving that in the video footage for all to see..;)
I love that some of the best drummers are struggling with Derek Roddy stuff. He's going so fast that it's hard to hear how technical it actually is. It's easier to hear when someone tries it for the first time. Derek, you're the man!
@dacrazy07 big congrats on the new DW kit and welcome to the family! Indeed, these kits are in high demand. We are doing our best to crank them out while maintaining the highest quality standards. Keep in mind, they are still made by hand just like Collector's Series, although the limited finish and size options give us the opportunity to "stock up". However, the demand is so high, we are unable to keep a stock! The shop you bought them from should know better than anyone when to expect them
@RutboyNiles good to know! Thanks for your feedback. Everyone has different tastes. Our's is most often the taste of John Good. It is fun and rewarding to try different head combos.
@drdo1988 We are very happy to hear you enjoyed the video! Your welcome. Derek has been a great addition to our artist roster. We are very happy to have him.
What a beautiful video!!!! I actually don't know about third guy but this two great drummers (Pridgen & Roddy) behind one set playing, smiling, learning something new and spend some great time! Perfect vibe!
@Drumzmer555 main difference is customization. Performance Series costs significantly less because we only offer it in certain sizes, shell construction (SSC), and finishes/hardware colors. Collector's Series is virtually limitless price-wise due to it's fully custom nature. As far as sound, they both use the same exact maple and have very similar sound. Performance is only offered in HVX shells while Collector's has many different SSC options that effect the fundamental pitch of the shell.
Aw thanks! The Performance Series is more affordable then the Collector's Series but Collector's Series quality. This would be a great start to join the DW family.
@9cccaseycane Thanks for your interest in the Performance Series. This kit should be around $2000 from an authorized DW dealer. Go to dwdrums(dot)com and click on the Dealer Locator in the right hand top corner for the dealer closest to you. Gravity hits are always cool!
@admiralkts Thanks for noticing! Yeah he has the 5.5x14 snare for the Performance Series in this video. Feel free to check out the details on the Performance Series at dwdrums(dot)com. Just click on the "drums" button in the left top corner and choose Performance Series on the pull down menu. Have good one!
Each drummer has his own style, that hammer style is Derek most distinguished, but Pridgen has a tremendous style and power too, also great to see how a profesional drummers share their rhythms and ideas, way to go.
@johnnykeathley3 great to hear! These kits are a great value and a great way to get into playing DW. So if the sizes and colors for Performance Series work for you, I recommend them. If you're looking for something more custom-fit to your exact specs, Collector's Series is the way to go. If you want a more vintage sound, Jazz and Classics Series are very fun options. All our kits have "warmth" & "tunability", but some are different than others. The best thing to do is hear them for yourself.
@SevernSickum I'm not sure how the price changes due to import tax and exchange rate, but a 5pc in the States is about $1800, a 7x8" add on $250 and a 14x16" $375. The toms do come with STM mounts or Legs (depending on the size), but it does not come with tom stands or a BDM (Bass Drum Mount). So you will need to buy a stand to mount your rack toms. The drums are meant to be sold as a complete kit, so the snare is packaged in with the toms (can't order without the snare). Thanks for your ?'s
This kit in particular had a 16 inch floor tom but we do offer a 14" floor tom. You can actually get our tom pack 2 which includes the 9x12 and 14x16 and add a 8x10 separately. 14 inch toms and bigger come with legs standard. We do not have these sizes as rack toms.
@RutboyNiles we appreciate your opinion, but it is worth noting that our stock Coated/Clear heads are ambassador-weight single ply heads made by Remo USA, so there's really little to no difference except for the coated ring.
@codyandcambria Pretty cool for sure. All these guys have their own strengths and their egos allow them to learn from each other. Thanks for liking the Performance Series!
@Buttplugbetty We appreciate your suggestion! Although it is hard to get our artists under the same roof for even a 1/2 an hour we are really excited to try it anytime we can!
@crenshawjeffrey For the toms and bass drum batter we use Coated Clear DW Remo factory heads. Coated White Revers Dot for snare batter. Clear heads for resonant on toms and snare. A Gloss Black Performance Series logo head for the bass drum resonant. Have a great weekend!
@TexasTeaDrums All of these share VERY similar wood. They are all Hard Rock North American Maple. Performance has a special HVX grain orientation. In 98, all shells were standard horizontal grain.
This video makes me feel so much better as a drummer. Just the fact that these drumming icons can have trouble learning something new at their level, gives me (and probably everybody watching this video) encouragement to try new things and to not be discouraged by drumming monsters. Great Video, can't wait to see more like this. P.S. I find that the floor tom isn't balanced very well with the kit, every time someone plays it repeatedly, the left side of my headphone kinda blows out my ear.
It's neat to see that even great drummers still struggle and are impressed by the simplest beat there is. Oh and thank you for the performance series, it is great.
Never any stupid questions! :) The Collector's Series is a customizable Series with almost endless sizing options. The Performance Series is made here just like the Collector's Series but with it's own shell technology that is exclusive to itself. The Performance Series has sizes 8-16(excluding 13), 20, 22, and 24 inch bass drums and 5.5 and 6.5x14 snare drums. Hope this helps! Check the link below for more Performance features. dwdrums(dot)com/drums/performance/
I really enjoyed watching this video, drums sound great, and its cool to see some great drummers sharing a set and having fun sharing licks! Those broken blasts are lots of fun, haha.
It's so humbling to see people take interest in Roddy's style and techniques (like Thomas Pridgen and Curt Bisquera). That's what drumming between friends is all about. Sharing ideas, admiring different walks of musical life.
Also, the drums sound great!
Watch closely everyone. This is probably the first and last time you'll ever see Thomas Pridgen struggle to play something.
It's the first time I've ever thought he seemed a bit slow :)
First time seeing Elton John's drummer playing blast beats.
We like that you thought that this is one of the best videos you've ever seen! Thomas has those skills along with plenty of other skills. Thanks for watching!
LOVE seeing Thomas struggle with something, he IS human.
+Devin Buchhorn I KNOW, HE IS SO ENTHUSIASTIC WHEN IT COMES TO DRUMMING
I feel like Thomas is the drummer that I see struggle more than anyone. He constantly steps out of his comfort zone in drum "solos" and tries to play something new. He never stops pushing himself, not even in front of an audience. And if he messes up he doesn't back down onto something comfortable that he knows he can play. Thanks for watching! Well said! Derek is a top notch kind of guy.
We are very happy to hear that! We wish you many fun drumming times with your Performance kit. Enjoy!
I don't know Derek or Thomas personally but from their videos I can tell that they are very down to earth and love sharing about drums. Super cool
It turns into a video of Derek Roddy giving lessons lol that was awesome.
Thanks for comments. Sounds like you were thoroughly entertained and that make us happy!
Yeah, one of the coolest videos. Drumming veterans having fun. Blast beats ain't that easy, obviously. Like how Derek shows Thomas and Curt his Hellish Blasts. And they appreciate it! Cool
i like this video. just all of them having fun and trying things. its real.
Have you ever noticed how the best musicians are so humble and willing to admit their mistakes? Think about that for a minute.
We are happy you were having a great time appreciate your kind words!
@estebanskater123 Thanks for watching! Pretty cool watching all these guys doing blast beats. Happy holidays!
It's so great that these awesome drummers have no problem showing everyone and each other that they find something hard to play.
Very well said! All these guys are so good at their individual styles and its cool to see them crossing over and having fun doing it.
Pridgen's pitch control at 3:03 is flawless. Never fails to amaze me.
@LHat99zz Thanks! Glad your watching and listening. :)
i still cant believe how versatile that snare sounds..with dereks wicked blasts to just grooving with it.. really tight sounding snare
I sincerely hope young drummers see this video as an example of drummers from different genres and backgrounds simply having fun and not showing off in comparison to who can do what..Good job DW, at leaving that in the video footage for all to see..;)
It is! Thanks for liking the Performance Series!
Thanks for watching! These guys are definitely happy to be around each other!
Well that is a lot! :) John is a great guy and enjoys all conversations about drums. Thanks so much for being a part of the DW family!
He is! Derek is the man. Thanks for watching!
Awesome! Thanks for choosing the 8x14 Performance series snare! The shell was made overseas but is assembled here in our factory in CA!
@wetrib Thomas shows he can. Kirkee B is hilarious as usual. Thanks for watching!
I love that some of the best drummers are struggling with Derek Roddy stuff. He's going so fast that it's hard to hear how technical it actually is. It's easier to hear when someone tries it for the first time.
Derek, you're the man!

I can't stop watching these videos. DW just has the best drummers and best drums in the world. Totally incredible.
@TheJamsh Glad you like it. We are lucky to have these guys.
@RutboyNiles good to know! Thanks for your feedback. Everyone has different tastes. Our's is most often the taste of John Good. It is fun and rewarding to try different head combos.
@ToweringFilth As long as it sounds great to you in the end. :) Thanks for watching!
Its really see awesome to see these guys hang out with such great gusto to learn from each other.
2 of my favourite drummers in this video, and Derek teaching Thomas about blasting... wow.
@drdo1988 We are very happy to hear you enjoyed the video! Your welcome. Derek has been a great addition to our artist roster. We are very happy to have him.
I feel bad for his left foot in this
it must feel so left out
What a beautiful video!!!! I actually don't know about third guy but this two great drummers (Pridgen & Roddy) behind one set playing, smiling, learning something new and spend some great time! Perfect vibe!
That is one way to describe it! Thanks for watching!

Our pleasure!! We'll keep posting videos and we can't wait to make you a kit someday. :)
We do, too thanks! Drumming is a fun learning process and should be treated as that! Thanks again!
@severedties24 You are right about Derek! Thanks for your feedback. We are very stoked to hear your positive comments. :)
Aw thanks! The Performance Series is more affordable then the Collector's Series but Collector's Series quality. This would be a great start to join the DW family.
Really cool to see all these guys sharing the kit right? Shows the strengths in their individual styles and how they can learn from each other. :)

Well said! That is definitely the attitude with these guys for sure. Thanks for watching!
Thanks! Great group of guys with Derek driving the Metal bus. :)
This is some of the best playing i've seen from Derek Roddy.
He is such a great drummer and great guy! Glad you had that experience!
Each drummer has his own style, that hammer style is Derek most distinguished, but Pridgen has a tremendous style and power too, also great to see how a profesional drummers share their rhythms and ideas, way to go.
@dannysanchez31 thanks! Glad you get to worship with them :) cool to hear about your head choices.

Thanks for watching! Derek is a beast!
Thanks for watching! You know it!

i like how my favorite drummer (tp) starts playing blast beats... this... this was one of the best drum video's i've ever seen
Probably the number one kit on my wishlist (which i possibly could afford one day) + Derek is such a cool guy.
@xTiguex I don't know for sure what was used where, nor specific models, but a blend of Rode, AKG, Telefunken, and Shure were all used.
It's neat to see that even great drummers still struggle and are impressed by the simplest beat there is. Oh and thank you for the performance series, it is great.

Very true! All good points for sure. Derek is a fast pedaling machine and we are very lucky to have him. :)

I love watching this, artists working off of each other. So awesome!
