We use wax worms (wax moth larva) a lot here in Wisconsin. Primarily for ice fishing, but occasional in spring and summer too. They actually should not be kept in the refrigerator. They live much longer when kept at room temp. Like most bait, high heat isn’t their friend either. Love the panfish vids man.

You're quite fortunate to have so many places to fish. Thankfully you share that with the world.

We start using waxies around this time of the Fall. We'll use them all the way until June. SE Wisconsin. Obviously, as you stated , they are very good for ice fishing. Spikes are good too (fly maggots).

Here in Texas I catch way more bluegill with those meal worms than red worms. Sometimes catch like 6 or 7 on one worm. The best hooks to use are the eagle claw with the little barbs on them.

yeah i would expect meal worms to stay on the hook better since they are harder then wax worms two different larve species

You mean wax worm because a mealworm won't last but one fish

when you take them out of the refrigerator you let them sit to come alive and they usually are a little tougher i feed them to my gecko sometimes

I was listening on my way to the river and while setting up. Got skunked but made progress on a book. Striper and Salmon never made a run this Fall and the usual baitfish are nowhere to be seen. At least I’m enjoying your catch.

I search out the water with a worm first...as a locator. Usually, they can't resist a worm.once I found them. Waxworms on the hook.

I use a #16 down turned fly hook for panfish w waxies and other grubs like wasp larva, smaller hook you can bury in the bait and leave the point exposed. Less bait robbing and more hookups.

I also first used wax worm in Wisconson. Later I fished at Toledo Bend La. side with them and really killed the sun fish and small bass. I called wax worms "crack for fish". LOL

I'm a fairly new subscriber and have been enjoying your videos. I have a question on this one, why didn't you switch baits once the bite was active on the worms? If you put the worms under the cork, and the waxies on the dropshot, and the bite continued on the worms and not the waxies it would've been more convincing. Just sayin; not trying to be a jerk.
    Thanx for your videos!

I use wax worms here in Arkansas for panfish and 1-4 lb channel cats. It's one of my favorite baits

Try to get soldier fly larvae. They are small, but tough as shoe leather and stay on the hook well. I found some in compost I was making and used them. I think they like compost.

you should always thread your worms on the hook, when you have part hanging off - the fish pull them off easier

Problem with that is it impairs the action you want it as natural as possible for more bites.

Wax worms stay on way better with just a regular eagle claw hook. Not a jig head in my opinion

  • @kennethdavis459
    @kennethdavis459 ปีที่แล้ว

They look very dead you need to take the top off and let them warm up and move around and then put them on the hook try that and see if it works if not do not go back to that taco store for waxworms trust me

Let me help: Use a pin min jig instead of a regular one or an ice fishing jig if you don't have pin min. Thread your wax worm on the hook completely. Maggots are better than wax worms if you can find them. Fish on, Mr Hood 🤘🏻
