Thanks for the video. The only footage where I could find something about a maintenance of Sony wheel switch maintenance. Moreover that problem is a very common both of MD and CD players.
Very pleased to see someone repairing retro equipment. I'm desperately trying to get hold of a minidisc player. Is it possible to play that type of minidisc in a Walkman?
Aqui no Brasil a Sony nos forneceu o aparelho MDS-S50 mas é o mesmo mecanismo do seu aparelho e ele está apresentando problemas de leitura dá um erro "Error C13" e devolve o Disc. Silvio Santiago. Brasil
I like your videos as I have always repaired stuff since I was a kid (well mostly). The problem is every time I see you I see Edd China for some reason!
I love(d) my Sony MDS JB940 deck. I saw a video about replacing the drive bet so I ordered some. Lid off, Drive mechanism out, old sloppy belt removed and the new one installed. Perfect ! I put a minidisc in and it went in perfectly and played perfectly. Sadly it could not be ejected. I must have done some damage when I opened her up and changed the belt. In trying to get the disc out I must have broken the laser top cover. Game over Deck DEAD. I'm absolutely gutted. What the hell did I do wrong ? I'll be on the lookout for another deck.
That's sad to hear. I've fixed a few of these and they're usually easy to do with no problems. They can be quite delicate in places but it's usually the ribbon cables and heads.
@@RetroElectronicRepair Yes, very sad. I'm usually OK at fixing things so this is my first failure. I did notice a bit of brown plastic that had come adrift on the floor but no idea where it broke off from. It all seemed over engineered and unnecessarily complex to me. All very good until it goes wrong. Lesson learnt - use a pro to fix complex things!
Well I just tried this. I got the mechanism out but couldn’t open the lid wide enough. I managed to get the jammed disc out and that was it. Putting it back together for my repair man to sort. Bit frustrating to say the least
Hello, I have Pioneer MJ-D5 minidisc and there is a problem. When I try to erase minidisc the message on display "PROTECTED" but the protection lock on disc is closed but if I shake the player a little bit the erase happens. When I try to record on the display the message " CAN'T RECORD" probably has the same problem with protection. With payback no problems at all. Some people complained about contacts in this model but where is this contact located and if it can be cleaned. Any help?
If you take the top off you should be able to insert a disk and see where the contact is that hits the disc protection tab. Off the top of my head I can't remember where it is or what it looks like but it's probably just a copper contact that needs cleaning.

Thanks for the comment, I'm glad this helped you.

Thank you. I thought cutting the hair would get rid of the Edd China look lol

It’s not necessary to remove the front and the feet off! Just unplug the ribbon cables, and unscrew the transport
Thanks for the info, I will remember that. It's always a bit of a guess when you first take something apart.
See my post. Transport mechanism incredibly complex and fiddly. Mine now broken beyond repair.

A lot of this stuff can be frustrating, but we persevere.
@@RetroElectronicRepair it turned out that the laser is shot too so it’s gone to a PayPal decision about whether I get my money back
Front panel can stay, open the hood screw out the mechanism,
Thanks for the info 👍
El diámetro del cinturón o faja de cuánto es? Gracias
I'm not sure what the diameter was, sorry. I just have a variety of sizes and matched it to the closest one.
Wow excellent job well done 👏 ✔
Thank you.

Dreadful no idea what he was doing, no need at all to remove anything apart from the top casing.
Nope, absolutely no idea as I've never taken one apart before. But it was all working perfectly and sold for over £100. Thanks for watching.
