Nothing happened I believe, but We miss seing him on The Tech Guy !!! He is the ONLY one Tech Guy for ever !!! and I hope that Leo and all of his family are great !!! Salutes from Argentina !!!
As a proud Club Twit Member I really enjoy listening to this every single week.. The banter is so strong and informative.. Honestly there could be a show called This Week In Sandwiches and it would also be fantastic..!!!
To see the fan speed, I downloaded an app. It’s always at 1000rpm and it’s not noticeable. What I was surprised about, if you crank it to max 5000rpm it’s sounds like vacuum 😅 I couldn’t imagine it can make so much noise
Very much enjoyed the video and info. Can not wait to update from a 2019 Intel iMac to a Mac Mini. If I could ask a question, my iMac has a 2 TB fusion Drive of which 1 TB is listed as system data. When I upgraded, do I need to take that into account when selecting memory updates or will that shrink weigh down with the upgrade? Thank you so much.
I am running my M4 mini up side down at the moment. However, I am waiting on some stick on feet to raise the cpu up half an inch to accommodate my fat finger.
I'm about to buy one Leo...what do you think I should buy do I need a M4Pro Max or can I get by the second from top tier Mini? Miss ya hope you're well! Aloha 🤙🏾🤙🏾🤙🏾 Man you guys really geeked out on the throttling thing 😂 I wish I would have heard more input on best configurations etc.
This reminds me of the days when you could buy a top of the line computer and 8 months later, its successor is twice as fast as what you had. All’s fair in the name of progress!
Soooo what specs did ya get ? Any recommendations on a nice monitor 27 to 32 inch for under 500? Also … do you know if the iMac has all slower SSD speeds at all sizes ?
I want to purse cloud based AI such as Gemini Nano 1.5 Pro, Perplexity and Grok. Just to name a few. Thinking about the $1400 Mini M4 Pro. Plus some crazy graphics. What you you think?
I have a 27” Intel iMac at my front desk in my clinic. I bought it used for the screen real estate. Sadly, though, I finally reached its capabilities for using MacWhisper dictation. I might have to do Mac mini with their studio monitor as a replacement now.
Love my mac, been a long time user. Though,tThese days, I use it to run qemu and Linux for development. A raspberry pi 5 is probably good enough for me.
I opted for the M4 Pro model and was trying to run three 4K monitor off of the TB5 and HDMI ports, leaving the third TB5 port for external storage. The issue I seem to be having is when the Mini wakes up from Sleep the two TB5 attached monitors wake, but the HDMI attached monitor power indicator lights as if its woke, but there’s no display. When I run all three TB5 ports to the three monitors, all is well. Is there a TB5 hub I can use to tun all three 4K monitors at 60hz leaving me with the two remaining TB5 ports for other uses?
With a Thunderbolt enclosure, or even a 40Gbps USB4 enclosure, you can expand your storage from 256GB on the base Mini to past 2TB for less money (or about the same, depending on the sales you catch) than the 512GB upgrade. And at peak speeds, it may be faster than the 2300-2600MB/s the 256GB internal storage is getting in reviews. Soooooooooooo ... that's what I did, along with a portable 1080p monitor to have a portable desktop Mac.
You would have to spend more than $10k 20 years ago to get that kind of performance (for the time) also. My M1 Mini works great in my recording studio it's all I need. Heck I can't even get rid of my 2011 MBP because it just won't die lol.
Apple is going to have to jump into gaming just to justify the higher end models. If someone spends three or four k on a Windows laptop, it's for gaming 95 % of the time. They have the hardware and could set themselves up to compete against PC and consoles.
I have multiple Apple devices including a Macbook Pro, however, IMO the $600 base Mac Mini 4 does not deserve the hype. It only has 256GB of storage which is what you would find in a 2005 computer. You can easily buy a MiniPC from multiple manufacturers with a comparable Ryzen 9 8945HS CPU, 1TB of storage and 32GB of memory for $650. Many MiniPC's support Occulink, have a display port, a 2.5GB LAN, plus a few USB 3.2 ports.

Lovely to listen to all three again. Huge fan going back for many many years.

Lot of Mac knowledge in this group. Look forward to Mac Mini M4 Pro.

Top of the line? M4 Pro with highest offering? Maxed Ram, 8 G SSD drive? $6024.00???
i suspect the reason for the new power button is due to extruded aluminum vs old version milled aluminum
Many thanks, did you post the High end mini specs somewhere?

When did you start using podcast over Netcast?

Based on the tear-downs, the button would fit on the side, They just think their OS is so good, that you rarely have to hard power it down.
Why do people care about the power button? I like that it's on the bottom you don't accidentally hit it now.
These are all great points! ❤👍🏻💯
Damn you people and your radio voices!

Possible writes are being cached somehow?
Since you have moved to your attic -- the sound levels are not consistent--video is fine--audio not so much

OMG did Andy just refer to a boxed computer as a CPU? Like parents and grandparents have since the 90'?
The bottom power button is just one step from getting rid of the power button
high power mode == ludicrous speed
M2.SSD Generation 5 can do 12-14GBit/sec
When Apple puts the M4 Max in the Studio, there will be no need for a Mac Pro workstation.
@@EBone12355 i. suspect the studio is going away. its always been an awkward device in the lineup
@@drfrancintosh Oh no.. The Mac Pro Tower is going away. The Mac Studio is the new Pro
@@ericmatthews8497 Thats a possibility - but I understand that most Pro users need the slots for expansion, esp graphics and storage.
That’s a breath mint 😂
I’m going to be honest.
I clicked on this videos just because I wanted to know what professor Richard Dawkins’ take is on the new Mac Mini M4 chip.

Just double side tape it to the back of your monitor.
maybe for the RAM swap it's important WRITE is faster
what would be nice is if it could be a battery powered..
mac nuc.
This is 2024 and mac is only doing simple things not so different from 20 years ago
Still no where near pcie 5.0 ssd speeds.
1TB should be minimum
32gb, 2TB model is just absurd tho. 2TB drive costs almost nothing in the pc world. It's insane in apple world.
I agree Apple needs to chill with their storage pricing.

Lol. Trying to justify dumb power button decisions, mental gymnastics from fan bois right there.
