Over the past month, we have been sharing the stories and unique personality traits of the Jabulani elephants.
We are running a competition to win a three-night stay at Jabulani for two people sharing, to qualify, you have to foster one of the Jabulani elephants, with all proceeds going to towards the ongoing costs of their elephant care during the halt of tourism due to Covid-19.

Timisa is an orphaned elephant that was rescued in November 2016 by the Elephants Alive team. Michelle, who heads up Elephant Alive, named her Timisa, meaning Courageous. She was accepted gracefully into the Jabulani Herd.
We estimate that she was born in mid-2015, making her only five years old now and recognisable as the shortest and smallest of the elephants (unless Khanyisa is among them).
Timisa's mother, unfortunately, died as a result of a severe drought. Tokwe, the Jabulani herd matriarch, took the orphaned calf under her trunk and became her adoptive mother. With Tokwe's guidance, Timisa has settled in naturally and beautifully with the herd.
Fishan was the first to show his acceptance of Timisa, followed by Tokwe, who had to leave Pisa, her last born daughter, to tend to Timisa. After that, the whole herd participated, and Pisa took it very well. Timisa has bonded very well with Pisa and Kumbura.
Physical traits:
Timisa was very weak when she first arrived, but in time, her health improved dramatically, and she gained good weight and showed healthy skin definition. She has only tiny tusks, which continue to grow slowly.
Personality:
Timisa started as quite a fussy eater when she joined the herd, but this has improved. She loves a treat (or ten!) and is always on the lookout for the next nibble. She certainly has a very healthy appetite, which we are happy to see as she goes about foraging in the bush with her new family.

🐘 Each foster membership of USD100 or multiples thereof gets an entry to win.
🐘Prize incl a 3-night stay for 2 people sharing in a suite with private pool, all meals, safari activities, elephant experience, return transfers from Hoedspruit airport to the lodge.
🐘 Prize excl flight costs, beverages & conservation levy of R150 per person
🐘Valid for travel from now until 16 Dec 2021, excluding 16 Dec 2020 - 10 Jan 2021 and excludes travel during month of August

Timisa is such a lovely elephant. So sweet and loving. I love the scene at the dam where she is thoroughly loved by her aunties and allo mothers! I'm so glad she came to HERD. 🙏❣️♥️❣️🐘🐑🌿

Timisa is a beautiful baby and the Herd is amazing for accepting her and now young khanyisa as their family... you guys do a great job with these gentle ellies.. and now Timisa is teaching all that she learnt as a baby to Khanyisa.. 😍❤❤

Timisa is 5 years old now and still has some milk in the mornings with her food :-) But not much - she is not dependant on it any more

A mix of milk and pellets Timi didn’t like the bottle when she arrived so in order to get her to take the necessary sustenance Adine and the carers put it in a bucket for her which worked well.😊
I read that Timisa still has her milk......but drinks it from a bucket.....has she done this since she arrived at HERD?

I think Pisa is like a big sister to her, and the adult females take turns as with h Khanysia in watching over Timisa. As noted, Tokwe became the main Mom to Timisa when she settled into the he Herd.

Did Timisa have to live separate before being introduced to herd it doesn’t seem that way?
No she didn’t Adine made the decision to introduce her to the others right away and she was immediately accepted. Tokwe took Timi on as her own and she’s done a fantastic job with her 🧁🐘💖
