Thank you for this! I've been struggling with ego issues my entire life and I'm glad I was able to find some wisdom on this topic. Understanding that the "I" that has struggled isn't the real me makes it easier to get a handle on my mind. This person whose head I seem to be inside of is really just another object in the world. There's no reason to be so attached to it. It's ironic that my username is Detached Laconian, which I chose as an expression of my social aloofness, when I'm so attached to my ego. Hopefully this individual I identify with will take things more lightly and grow as a person.

Lord Buddha teaches consciousness is formed of "energy" with help of the "six aggregates" within life as a phenomena and as a result of cause & effect. "Samsaara " All life energies end up to be nothingness.
Buddha didn't speak based on the authority of Sabda (the Vedas) which, again and again, speak of an eternal, unchanging, permanent atman (true self).
