I don't think Soken will ever understand just how much joy his music brings me. And I make sure to thank the man pretty regularly as we talk on messenger.
@@ZincZXzinx Thank you for bringing this up. Much like Soken has spoken of working on FFX with Nobuo Uematsu and going out for beers with the man, yes we didn’t really hear his name until 12 years later for ARR, I imagine there are a lot of unsung heroes working on these bangers that don’t get the recognition they deserve. Soken is amazing, a musical genius, but yeah, he probably didn’t have his hands on this as much as people want to imagine he did beyond laying out the motifs/leitmotifs and preparing instructions and maybe supervising/advising changes needed.
@@TheTrinitySaga At the same time, Soken's contribution to laying out the sound and feel of FFXIV's soundtracks can't be denied. Even if he didn't directly compose every track his influence is all over it. So while I absolutely agree that the other composers on deck need to be given credit, he is still owed some gratitude for his role in establishing XIV's sound.
That third leg of the dungeon, on the rooftops, i just had a feeling in my stomach thinking about Vivi and Puck. This whole expansion is an echo of 9's themes, of comraderie and found family. And of living a life worth living, and that being different for every person.
The case with dawntrail i feel like it perfectly mixes the themes of both ffix and ffx - the theme of a journey and learning of the cultire is greatly reminiscent of that of ffx's story, and the themes of newfound family and that of finding meaning (echoed through Galool Ja's + Otis and Galool Ja's + Zalool Ja's relationships) adds an even more personal twist to the story that is JUST PERFECT
This is an absolute masterpiece. Didn't think this expansions 100 dungeon theme could match the dead ends one, but this is just as good in a more upbeat way. Soken the GOAT.
if I had a gil for every time the primary quest NPC for a series of job quests turned out to be an imaginary friend, I'd have three gil, but at least it wasn't MY imaginary friend this time.
Beautiful song. It goes hard. With Sphene and the villagers talking in the background and the map slowly becoming more darker and destroyed, it was actually a pretty emotional dungeon. Every time I do expert dungeons in roulette I always hope it is this one.
I was crying tears of joy seeing this be the pennultimate level 100 dungeon. What a perfect way to end the story with a very nice callback to 9 in design and some themeing
@@jsnjsn761I keep seeing comments it was bad and I feel bad for them that they could not be open minded about a new world building expansion I really enjoyed the characters
@@meitomiyazaki9848 the first half of the story is objectively poor in pacing and inconsistent in the quality of it's worldbuilding. Did we really need to collect SEVEN macguffins one at a time in a repetitive cycle? Furthermore how can they spend so much time worldbuilding without asking essential questions related to the cultures we meet like 'why do the pelupelu all wear identical pelican masks when there are no native pelicans and their culture revolves entirely around alpacas?' and 'why do the moblins still wear gas masks even though they aren't miners like their goblin cousins?' The moblin area in particular was awful because it was an idiot plot (a plot that can only happen if every character is suddenly acting stupid) where all of Wuk Lamat's bodyguards AND her brother AND his bodyguards let her go off alone into an ambush even though there had already been multiple attempts on her life. In comparison the Mamool Ja and Yok Tuy had pretty good worldbuilding, but it still took too long to deliver. A good point of comparison is WoW dragonflight. That expansion was praised for it's gameplay but criticized for having a bland story, yet even dragonflight does a better job of introducing a plethora of new tribes and establishing their culture efficiently than dawntrail. And speaking of warcraft, Dawntrail's story felt immensely like a WoW story, because it focused entirely on following around a brand new character in Wuk Lamat and both the player character and several other established characters were somewhat sidelined in comparison (especially Estinian, he was barely even in the xpac).
I have no doubt that this theme brought so many nostalgia to those are fond of FF9. I've also played it back in 2001 on my PS2. It was one of the reason why I got PS2 for that backwards compatibility and later on Bleem. But suffice it to say, FF9 didn't resonate with me after completing it. So, I took this theme at face value and there's one thing for sure, Soken rarely misses. He managed to make a theme that told a story. It had grim finality into the theme where everything seem to be at stake. But the theme also encapsulated the unshakable hope into it. What an amazing track this was. Knowing the story, it's a tragic one. A one that still bothers me weeks after completing MSQ.

So is the fourth time I enter a sentient AI's mind (Alexander, Omega, The Red Girl...) and the fourth time the final dungeon is a recollection of memories of the current antagonist (Hades, Meteion, Golbez...)

This sounds like the producers just kidnapped the composer for Fire Emblem: Three Houses for like a day and made him contribute on this track alone.
