Hello again, thanks for the interesting video. I always like watching experienced shooters reloading for older rifles, almost identical to how I reload my .303 ammunition. Most countries have a close affinity with certain rifles from yesteryear, the Krag for you in Norway & the SMLE family for us in the UK. I hadn't watched anyone shooting the Krag before but I will add it to my wish list. Very recently I picked up an 1897 Schmidt Rubin 7.5 x 53.5mm Kadet so they are all of a similar era. I'm especially interested in breech loaders around 1850 - 1900. I last messaged you about your Spiller & Burr revolver. Finally I should have my licence updates sorted out so I can get my hands on the one I have reserved, its been a very long wait.

The 6.5x55 is my favorite caliber, I have two Swedish Mausers, and built a target rifle on a 98 FN action. I just purchased a Norwegian Krag and look forward to shooting it. I have some old European military bolt actions that I load ammo for, and will do that same for the Krag. Great video, I will have to find more of yours.

Thank you for watching an your comment. The Krag Jørgensen was a top notch rifle of its time. We used it as a service rifle til after wv 2. !

@@snapshotscorner5542, I've Had 3 U.S. Krags over the years. It is a fine bolt action, and the smoothest I've ever seen. I truely love the Krag rifles. I have hunted deer with them many times. I am looking forward to shooting one in my favorite caliber.

Great video. What kind of primers are you using? I found a resource for Norwegian Krag Loads but I couldn't find any info on the type of large rifle primers used.

I use Federal large rifle. But any large rifle that is aviable should be ok. Just stay away from magnum rifle, the Krag has only one lookiimg lug and exessive loads should be awoided. Thanks for watchong and a good comment.

Hello - thank you for this excellent series.
I am looking to obtain a Norweigian Krag in 6.5x55 - I do not have much experience with reloading and this video is very helpful -
To begin with, do you think it will be safe to use PPU Factory Ammunition and reload subsequenty from that? This is the techincal information -
    Technical Information
    •Caliber: 6.5mm x 55 Swedish
    •Bullet Weight: 139 Grains
    •Bullet Style: FMJ BT
    •Case Type: Brass
    Ballistics Information:
    •Muzzle Velocity: 775 m/s
    •Muzzle Energy: 2700 j
I think that 775 m/s translates to roughly 2542 feet per second. Do you think this is acceptable in your experience?
    Kind regards!

I will check with my Norwegian loading manual who is spesifikk for the Ktag-Jørgensen rifles when i get home frome woork tonigjt. I will get back to you!

    • @snapshotscorner5542

In my Norwegian loading manual there is a Sierra GameKing 140 grain loaded with 45 grain MRP a common powder. at an COAL 75mm. Depending on the barrel it will give you around 2552 fps. equals 778 mps. That is close to the one you mention the PPU factory munition. But I have to say it is at the top of the scale, If you have a tight bolt, be sure to look for pressure signs and check the bolt periodical. I would say: "go ahead but with a little caution!". It is with in the range of viable munition for the Krag-Jørgensen. If or when you get your self a Krag-Jørgensen please let me know! And good luck in your endeavor.

@@danielphillimore2527did you ever manage to get one? I’m looking at the same to try PPU?

      @@chriscullen8170 yes, I forgot to update. @snapshotscorner5542
I do now have a Norwegian Krag (which I absolutely love - it's beautiful) . I use the PPU 139 grain FMJ and it works beautifully. Very smooth and enjoyable. It is a noticeably hot round, needing adjustment on the sights when at 300 yards.
PPU do made a 150 odd grain round nose bullet option, with a roughly 300 fps slower trajectory. I think this will be more representative of the Ammunition originally designed for it.
I am looking to obtain some of this soon.

Have you ever used Unique powder for reloading the Norwegian krag?

Very interesting video. I got one of these fantastic rifles some time ago. I used only reduced loads with VV N110 till now. But with unsatisfactory results. Because of the lower pressure of the 6,5 Krag ammunition than the 6,5 swedish mauser it is difficult to find reloading data. Do you have a source for reloding data? what Powder-type do you use?

    • @snapshotscorner5542
      @snapshotscorner5542  ปีที่แล้ว +2

Yes I have a source that is unique..! It is the Norwegian "ladeboken #8" a Norwegian loading manual that has its own chapters on the 6.5x55 Swede for the Krag and another chapter for the Swedish Mauser. That is the one I rely to, just to make safe reloads.! For the Krag I have a maximum load: 44 grain of Vithavouri N-160 under a 130 grain match bullet COAL at 76.5mm. My next reloads will be 43 grains as this one as you see in the video is a tad to stout. But then again every rifle has its own preferences. You just have to work it out..! Further on if you have access to MRP powder? Ladeboken has data for 129/130 or 140 grains bullets 44 to 45 grains with a COAL at 76,5mm for the lighter bullets and at 75mm for the 140 grain bullet. Hope this will help you out..? Stay safe and stay tuned, there will be more videos on the 6.5x55 on my channel in the future..!

The problem you are having vith te Lyman E-zee primer tool are that you are using the wrong make of shell holder. You need to use the Lyman shell holders in this.
I have primed 10s of thousands cases with this priming tool and this is one of the best tools on the market. 👍

Be sure to get the one(s) for the priming tool, not the one(s) for reloading. Yes. They are different. 😮

Lyman uses only one type of shellholders. Not like Lee that has multiple types of shellholders. 👍

Hello again, Chris here again, I wanted to ask you about Krag Jorgensen but in private conversation. Can we do that via email or Facebook Messenger ? I'll provide my details to keep you private, thanks.
