Yea, i like the thought behind this video but you are already well known as an experiment to show that you can grow another account doesn't show us anything really. To us, well me in particular, would have liked to see some random photographer of your choosing. We know what your photos look like so its easily identifiable, you have all your information on the new account that links back to your big following in some way so once someone sees that, in my opinion they will say oh this guy is well known and follow you. I would like to see you choose someone, let them post their photos while you guide them through post times, audience engagement, stories and reels, hashtags, post style (carousels, etc) and see if you can help them grow that way. We know you can grow and although i have watched you grow and put in the work i do believe that IG is not granting everyone the same level of exposure.

Great points all around, wild there is probably a good few tips there are these videos are generally not worth watching. Everyone would assume he's talking about a fresh new account from scratch.

@@juskutyo Many people would kill for even 1600 followers which he called "lame". That was unfortunate. I've been stuck at 1500 for years...all the tips from youtube doesn't change some accounts, they are just categorized different.
My work has been used by popular accounts, and i get consistent, but small likes from my core group...but that doesn't hold enough weight for IG to want to push the account further. I've put years or work into IG, and its sucks to feel like it isnt being appreciated.
I only turned my private acct to a creator account 2 weeks ago to see if there's a difference. Posted twice since, but same deal, same eyeballs, same metrics from reels.
And no my work doesn't suck...so many junky content accounts with 10k+ followers.
I changed all my reels to 6 seconds...a bit better, but not breaking any records.

A better experiment would be doing it without using your name/image or announcing it on your social media platforms to give you that head start and traction. This is kinda like getting the home run but starting from third base analogy. Just my two cents.

Hey @evan, I'm a huge, longtime fan of your work but I've gotta agree with many others on this one. It would be a much more accurate experiment to not broadcast at all that you are doing experiment and then conduct it under a totally anonymous new name with no reference at all to who you are or your other well established profiles/accounts. Hope you'll take that challenge on and report back. Great work as always. I honestly loathe IG, on general principle based on them selecting who's material to show to others. Should have just let folks search and find.

should be easy to just create a random account with a random name with a random profile picture that has nothing to do with your actual larger account aka this is how you make sure people do not know you seems easy to do to avoid attention from people that know you already , an actual new account with nothing to do with yourself would have, you know made it more of an actual better test

I have been told on multiple occasions that the reason I get no attention is because I do not show my face. I've spent 80% of my life avoiding the front of a camera. My cousin the professional photographer jokes that in candid pics I am always out of focus. The only one out of focus. In 2017 I purged all my social media (massive toxicity) and restarted in 2021 after wiping the dust off my camera. I've recently pushed past (mostly) my once bitten twice shy attitude towards growth. Hopefully I will get that notification since I did download the other one when it was first offered.

At an extremely stagnant account, id really like to find a work/posting pace that works. So far its been just photos.. Its about 6K followers, but likes are at 30 pr post, which looks kinda funny in correlation to the following if get what i mean? Mate, I really like your content but you suffer from strong survivor bias. Your name and brand is attached to the new account, it is not even close to actually starting a fresh account. At some point the followership overlaps with your main account and then instagram starts suggesting this account to your main followership, causing them to follow your new one as well.
The tips itself and the process are good insights though and really should help. it might be setting you up for success though without your brand, one still needs some luck as well.

It would have been a better test not linking it to your main account. And in reality most photographers don’t have hundreds if not thousands of curated photos/content lying around and ready to post every single day. Most small accounts create on the go and post whenever possible. I get it, if you don’t post very often it’s much harder to grow.
Still, the test is just not realistic.

@@RanftEvan I switched over to reels late last year even with content from Tokyo and it still hasn't moved to needle. The only thing different is that now I produce reels. Great tip.
Not hating. However other photographers are doing these things and it's not moving the needle. Do we point back to the same lame advice of just being consistent and post that good times of the day and all of the other hyper generic tips that's been paraded on TH-cam videos for years?
The whole point of reels is supposed to expose your account to more people that don't follow you. But if you're putting up good work and they still don't follow you then it's not about the work? It has to be about other things then.
I personally believe that some accounts just magically get chosen after a certain amount of feedback and engagement and other ones just get lower weighted.

it all depends on how much work you are willing to put into IG, I made my IG account on March 12th, I post 1 photo a day, add a few hashtags, and comment on the "support" reels and I have 70 followers and average 30 likes a post. I do all that on my break at work so for a low-effort account I think I am doing ok. I don't do videos or stories just post and I do think I am limiting myself a bit with the 1 post a day, I am sure I can get more if I do 2 or 3 post a day.
