Thank you!!! You made this so easy. Now all my neighbors can see that girls can do what any mechanic can ;)
So you assume all mechanics are dudes?
I've always changed my own oil, but this was my Fit's first change. I love how accessible the oil filter is compared to my old Civic. One note: make sure you get a nice big oil pan like the one in the video. I had had a little plastic 6 qt oil pan and had to frantically move it around to intercept the oil stream as it dripped and moved. Quite comical actually, but required a lot of cleanup.
Top Tip #81... remove the oil filler cap and dipstick first. This makes the used oil flow out faster when you unscrew the sump plug. Faster flow means quicker oil change, and helps empty the really heavy sludge from the oil pan (sump).
I've prolly referenced this video 4 times since I first found it. It's my goto refresher before changing my oil. Thanks for the help!
I need one of those oil filter wrenches, back in the 70 we had band type wrench's or ones with a chain. Some of these cars and trucks today there is No room. Once I get my Fit back together I will change the oil. This video helped Thanks Doublewide6.
Pretty easy to do. Don't lose the washer on the the plug. If it falls in the oil pan make sure it stays on. Good luck.
I have a separate video on how to reset the oil reminder light. Find it under doublewide6 channel page. Thanks for your comment.
Very nice video. One thing: it is usually a good idea to change the crush washer on the drain plug. For about 50 cents it is worth it.
Thank you!! Been wanting to change my own oil for a while and this really helped!
Good lad. How do you dispose of the oil? I used to do ALL my work on my old Beetles -for 25 years and 7 Beetles. Changing my oil was a religious ritual. It made me feel good. I used mono grade Castrol SAE30 or 40(summer). I adjusted the valves, new valve cover gaskets (cork), static set the timing, cleaned/gaped the points/plugs. This was called a tune-up. I'd do this every 3K miles. This took an hour & cost about $6. 2-3times a year, -new plugs, points & rotor (+$7-8). A muffler took 1/2 day $40
thanks. i dont trust mechanics anymore at these main shops. i have seen tons of videos here on youtube where mechs are ripping people off. its time i learn how to do it myself
Merci , we are half mai 2021 and it help !!! Thx!
does the filter have to be changed with each oil change or can you do every other
thank you for sharing your knowledge. can you share how to change the engine mounting of this honda fit car.
A sincere thank-you for the helpful video. You've given me the encouragement to change my own especially after my previous $30 dollar oil change went to $51 dollars when Mr. Lube took over at my local Walmart :-(
If you don't mind I have two short questions ? What is the crush washer, and as a previous posting commented, is it necessary to change this every time, sometime or only when it looks defective against a brand new one ? Lastly does the oil filter only need to be hand tightened with a rag - I'm 190lbs male so I'm considering this with me in mind and not my 100lbs wife. Anyways, if and when you get a chance, no rush. It's still the dead of winter here in Quebec Canada so no outside oil changes until late spring.
It is easy to do, but it is going to cost about $18 to do it yourself with a small car. Look for local coupons and find a place that will do it for you for under $25 and it is a good deal.
Use new oil on the filter there might be some dirt on the old one that would prevent a good seal. It helps to prime the filter by pouring a bit of new oil then using the runoff on the seal.
Have you ever cut the oil filter open to compare it to OEM Honeywell?
When I forgot my oil filter wrench I wrapped it with sandpaper and manage to remove it:)
Merci pour le partage - thanks for sharing!
Thank you for this video, very well explained.
Do you manually reset the maintenance minder?
did you re use your washer bolt?
Thanks for your feedback. Did you change your oil? Please subscribe. More videos coming.
How many litre engine oil will be added on honda fit ?
3.6L
thanks for video , it helps me to change this filter :)
Notes: Take off the Oil cap first and it will flow better when it drains. Never use the OLD oil to make the seal on the new filter, use new oil.
What's the measurements of the boards?you say 2 by 8?? what's that in inches as I figure on making some...
That was very helpful. Thank you, sir
Just what I was looking for, thanks!
Thanks man - gonna try this weekend!
I wonder why you didn't remove the top cap to let air in and maximise oil drain below.
The engine can suck in air through the PCV valve so removing the cap is useless
good job i love it
It's not assuming, it's a fact. Statistics show that drop outs are very likely to earn not much more than minimum wages. But that's besides the point, your viewers can benefit greatly by doing their due diligence first before accepting the first answer, specially from someone that works at (wal-mart). Not all engine oils are the same.
If draining oil and your not too concerned about the oil, do what manymechanics do, put a hole through the filter with a screw driver and turn it.
john a had to do that a couple times especially. after a lube place over tightens
Hi, First of all thanks for the Video, I would like to ask you, if it is possible for you make a video WHO TO CHANGE DE OIL CLUTCH AND BREAK OIL SYSTEM. Thank you very much, From Portugal António Gonzaga.
So messy! Nice to see the process but I will take my Honda Fit to an oil change place. It is $60 now... it keeps young guys employed and the economy going. Good by me.
I remove the filler cap whilst draining & pour a little fresh oil in to flush the last of the old oil before replacing the sump plug...
The video is pretty good but it would have been nice if you had added the part that shows how to change the code inside on the instrument cluster. Thanks anyways.
thank you very useful
You just need to remember this...righty tighty lefty loosy.
Once the gasket touchs then 3/4 of a turn more or you can over tighten and it will leak or be very hard to get off again.
Most dip sticks are 1000ml between marks some are 500ml ,if this one is 1000ml then you add 500ml more oil.
Hmm , so the car has to be up on both sides .
With the YARIS it was somehow easier , just had to have the left front wheel on a concrete parking block so the car is only raised on the left side as the oil plug was on the right side.
Hopefully YARIS oil filter wrench will fit on the FIT oil filter too , will see that once I buy it.
Recently bought a 2013 FIT ... so MUCH more fun to drive than YARIS - I have had 3 YARISes on which I put 420,000 km in the last 8 years doing deliveries - , much more feedback from the steering wheel - YARIS one is actually very numb - plus much slicker ./ faster / smoother gearbox . Big difference in acceleration too , very noticeable 8.5 sec vs 9.5 sec for 0-60 mph ... both manuals.
Even if I had a rear sway bar in the YARIS which made it MUCH more stable in tight turns , FIT - without a RSB - feels more planted on the corners although it's displaying more body roll . I guess FIT centre of weight is much lower than YARIS, otherwise I cannot explain how FIT seems to have more grip than YARIS - even without a RSB -
With a RSB added , a FIT should be even more tossable around the corners but even in the stock form is fairly rough on pavement vs the smooth YARIS. Stock FIT with no RSB has definitely a rougher ride than YARIS - with rear sway bar installed -
Great Video!
So helpful! Thanks!!!
Ok. Great...saw the reset video..thank u!
What side is the plug on?
PTricky Starfish Passenger side on the back side of the oil pan.
doublewide6 Thanks for the video. Really helpful! Cheers.
The underside. ;)
Yeah, the guy that makes minimum wage at the counter knows who makes the oil
This helped out a ton. Thanks.
Thank you
Omg so many adds! Good video though thank you :)
So now I am old & cars are better. Which is good because NO mechanic will truly do preventative maintenance. -Check out the Jiffy Lube story. A wise man once said, "know your arse for it bears you". You are a guy who seems to understand this. Cars had to be made maintenance free because mechanics are so sleazy and incompentent that any real problem means a new car. If you can get an RS232 PC connector and the right software, you really can do it all yourself!
Crush washer on the drain plug needs to be replaced, and never reused. This video shows the drain plug being replaced without any crush washer at all. Major leaks ahead. Bring extra cardboard.
+Mitch Greenberg
True That,,always install a new crush washer.
And If I may add...I always add some oil to the filter as well.
Pennzoil Platinum plus pure synthetic..with extended oil filter. 115,000 miles and still strong. Change it every 6k miles.
+GKAtascosa In emergency, if new crush washer is not available you may put some Permatex Ultrablue RTV on the seal surface of the old washer and reuse it.
Good video
Thanks
thank you sir!
no crush washer?
it does not have a filter
bro i thought all i had to do was unscrew a cap and pout some oil in something
Hell to the no I’m doing this myself
Thanks for the posting it looks really simple to do.
fuck jiffy lube lol....
Wear rubber gloves. Used motor oil is not good for you. It is a known carcinogen, plus clean up is MUCH easier. Just a thought.
interesting. I might die soon as I work with oil all the time and have been covered in it a lot
Only for California wimps
"..I recommend that you don't use a socket like this ..with all the ridges.."
You mean a 12-point?
ScubaDaveGSXR he’s obviously explaining it like that for us folks who don’t know too much about tools / mechanical shit
“ Mobil 1 “ 😂😂😂😂
They might make it.
1-I thought you Americans wouldnt drive a small car like honda jazz.
2,Why do you call Honda Fit? We (British) calls it Honda Jazz.
DID YOU HEAR ABOUT THE NEW HONDA COMING OUT NEXT CALLED THE SHIT FIT ? I HEAR THERE ARE ALREADY A LOT OF ISSUES WITH IT.
OFF position of ratchet? ermm.. leftie loosie, righty tightie.. no matter if you are upside down or not. LOL
But left and right are harder to keep track of upside down.. Clockwise = Tighten, Counter Cwise= Loosen.
This is true always. TIME is always TIGHT.
The only thing that ever trips me up is if I'm upright and reaching under something for a bolt or nut that is going to extend downwards when its loosened. Like an oil pan bolt, or a bolt under the dash. I hold it with my fingers and think, rightie tightie, left loosy... and turn it the right way. I do not use the time is tight because I have worked on some things (bicycles) that have reverse threading... (time is loose). It all comes down to personal choice in the end. Whatever keeps you from striping out the threads on your aluminum block engine when removing a spark plug is the "Best" method. LOL
good Lord that's cheap . mobile one only for my car
Danica Patrick she is not...This video is totally useless...I've waisted another 2 mins of my life....
does the filter have to be changed with each oil change or can you do every other
Thank you
