As an Indian, who has sent multiple parcels to Russia, i was never asked to open the box and show the contents. You just declare on a customs form what is inside and the cost of it and you give your passport photocopy and thats it and pay. However, the postal department of India is divided into circles/regions with different Jurisdiction and the rules can change a little depending on which jurisdiction you are posting from. I posted all from Kolkata which is 2000 km to the east of Mumbai. I am sure they gave you a tracking code so you can track it online. Generally it will leave India within a week and anyways will be scanned by customs.
