Everyone who comes to the US or Canada, comes with a reference frame of Uncles and Aunties who moved to the US in late 90s to early 2000s. The cost of living, job opportunities and path to citizenship or even residency is 10X to 20X harder than what it used to be in 90s. People who immigrated back in 90s need to have an honest conversation with relatives planning to immigrate for education and jobs. On the contrary, they sell them a dream that no longer exists.

@@antonyjohnpeter549 Thank you. I was sucked into believing that everything falls in place once you start education in the US. Little did I know that I will have to apply to 500+ jobs to get a decent internship. It was a traumatizing experience for someone who was selected in a top university in the country. Now, when prospective students ask me I make sure I let them know the reality. If they are ready for the struggle and okay with losing jobs and moving back to India, I tell them to take the gamble.

I am an IIM graduate living in Europe and I closely resonate with what you said, Amish. I have seen the struggle of Indian students here right from finding affordable housing, working multiple jobs to cover their expenses and eventually struggling to find a decent job. The companies take advantage of the students situation and offer them much lower pays than the market average. While the same students paint a rosy picture of their life amongst their juniors and other students who have the dream of studying abroad, their own struggles are hidden. The career counseling agencies in India are quite corrupt as well, making false promises to students and earning huge commissions from colleges for placing students. Thanks for throwing light on this issue, and I hope more people are vocal about their experiences abroad and our youth has all the right information before making their decisions.

I have a German college admit and a German visa, but I currently work as a structural engineer earning 10k/month. This puts me in a dilemma. I couldn’t qualify for GATE to pursue a master's at an IIT, and people around me say that a master's degree from a tier 2 or 3 college in India holds little value. This has left me feeling stuck and unfulfilled.
I want to be in a place where my skills are respected. At 24, staying here is pushing me toward depression. It feels like India only caters to the top 90th percentile; the rest, like me, are left struggling. Even though there’s always hope, it’s hard to stay optimistic when hard work doesn’t necessarily lead to a good job or life.
This is an excellent video. But maybe going abroad is way to escape the competition here.

Excellent videocast and agree completely with Amish's points. Here are some observations based on my life abroad:
    1. Life looks good and much better than India for a person in his or her 20s and 30s. Reality strikes when s/he gets married, has kids, and the cost of education for the kids, living with a 30-year mortgage for the home (US), dealing with health of the family, and preparing for a retired life post-60. This slice of reality is particularly painful in the late 50s when the kids have, hopefully, established themselves and the cost of retirement looms in front - inadequate savings, inadequate social security, rising costs of healthcare, and a senior life that seems altogether too dreadful and dangerous to think about.
    2. Today, bank loans have opened to doors to mass immigration. But this puts both parents and Indian banks in the dock - either one of them pays the price in due course. The kids are rarely going to assume the costs of the loans and parents will see decreased quality of life because of the decision to fund their kids' education.
    3. The rising tide of Indian immigration, especially as students, coincides with a dangerous and looming problem: that of AI or artificial intelligence that will likely slice through all entry level jobs in the near future. Companies, where they can offer the much fewer jobs on offer, will offer them first to citizens that involve less paperwork, legal issues, and cost. Indians and other immigrants will be left out in the cold, without jobs, without visas, and forced to make a harsh decision.
My suggestions to the Indian government would be as follows:
--- Stop all bank loans for families to fund their kids' education abroad. Focus instead on inexpensive loans for a domestic education.
--- Stop inviting the well known Ivy League and other Top Order universities to establish in India. Those who want to go there and can pay for the education themselves can always go there. Instead, the smaller universities, many of them offering very high quality education, could be invited here but with strict caps on tuition fees - perhaps at the same level as Indian private sector universities.
--- Indian education, as Amish notes, has to become more employment focused and artisanal - whether in IT, marketing, distribution, retail, manufacturing, etc. For this, India should build more graded programs: certificate (less than six months duration); diploma (less than 2 years), and basic degree (3 years). All programs should have an equally graded and compulsory internship that is offered in partnership with industry bodies, whether in manufacturing, supply chain, IT, financial, healthcare sector, etc.

After 20 years abroad renewing passport asks affidavits, a letter from local council, police verification and bribe to policeman and what not. If I am away more than 2 decades with no relatives or no permanent address how am I supposed to do it. I am already out of country what does police verification do then. You idiots don’t understand a single thing and do all the bakwas thinking world runs according to your lofty never improving bullcrap. Then try the banking and any other bureaucratic thing

First of all, one should understand that Indian students are not running away bcz they are fascinated by west. They are running bcz post degree, there is no job here in india. From Last 20 yrs, freshers salary is still Rs 3L. The universities have outdated syllabus in india, the student loan money is completely wasted in india. if one is not getting relevant jobs in west, are they getting that relevant jobs in India ......no not at all? All are pushed into hard core sales, literally made salesman in india whether he is Engg. MBA, humanities, every one is seen salesman in India. U forget making single penny while studying in india. I have niece in Europe earning very good money as part time job that too in MNC during studies. Can u even think of in dreams in India. Forget about it. The struggles are everywhere, one has to be smart enough to pursue and crack one for himself whether in india or abroad. Indian companies work culture is unbearable, rotten culture. e.g CA died recently. Leave India and pursue your dream outside. Mother India is no longer mother any more. U got to leave and take risk. U have no choice. Do not wait for india to become vishwaguru. U have hardly 30 yrs to earn. Any miscalculation will ruin your limited time to earn. Apni akal lagao ..bolne pe mat jao..

Very true reflection on craze of Indian parents and students for foriegn education. One real situation is Indian students are disillutioned with reservations system in highier professional universities and in Govt service Imagine a situation meritorius( general) student has to work with a class mate who is just able pass, up to this point it is ok. But later on due to reservations in promotions his class mate with reservation will be promoted to highier post and the general candidate has to work under him as general will not get promotion due to reservation. This is humiliating to general person. That's why students are flocking to foriegn lands for highier education and jobs.

💥The shutting down of the British Classroom format begins from the West.
    - was important for the acknowledgment to come from Britain which converted unorganised slavery into a sophisticated slavery, sponsored by the parents themselves, of human trafficking from classrooms to jobs to divert profits to Christian conversion & reduce rich nations like Bharat into a Naukaro wala desh.
British Classroom system was imposed World over to FEMINIZE men with memory-tests, into giving up enterprising & thoughts of independence.
The 400-year cycle of single country RC which began with Pound closes with the beginning of the dilution of the Services sector & the English language.

Though personally I like Indian health care and turned down opportunities to move to mid high income country (GDP ~$20K/capita) due to distance and language issues. Besides, I too was earlier keen on moving to these countries but my enthusiasm died down over time as I learned more and more about the cons through my friends.

Such titles and thumbnails will always have an audience, but they won't change anything for the next couple of years when migrating to the developed world for higher education. At the age of 33, I left my career as a radiologist and took my USMLE exams and migrated to USA at the age of 36 - mine was mostly cultural migration - I am an athiest, free thinker (what would I do there?) - and my path to Citizenship was not easy - but even when I had no oppotuities and go back - I stil felt the journey is totally worth it (money time I spent) - once I started understanding why west is like that - bottom line- Move if you have open mindedness. Money and opportunities part - you may get bored soon and you have enough opportunities in growing India too.

💥It has to be Gurus led Education & not business led Education -
The Education Department was invented by the British for colonisation & conversion purpose in order to not let natives rebuild the destroyed Gurukul campuses & the Mandir Ecosystem.
Even if we go by current context, handing over 20 years from a human life to a regulated classroom format within 4 walls away from market, needs to be seriously revisited in the coming years.
We need to cut down the excessive role of the first two from the below four by applying Tech -
Govt. - Education owners - Gurus - Students
The Real Gurus & students will find each other out. Nobody needs to come in between to waste 20 years of human life.

Sir, Great assessment, but solutions are mediocre. We need a bigger overhaul in everything and every sector. Manufacturing and self reliance should be the bullseye that we need to shoot for. Designing everything around 100% self-reliance with Dharmic values and ultra cutting edge technology would solve most unemployment. No more than 35% of any country should live in city. It’s a scam. Only most needed and educated one should move to cities.
