Joshua Rosen to me, the only move that comes close to matching, if not better than this is Mika Hakkinen passing Michael Schumacher using Ricardo Zonta at Spa in 2000
sbaker190189 That Spa move looked great but was pretty easy. (Only memorable move by Hakkinen, apart from some mistakes...) This Mansell move presented itself but Mansell took it like a lion. I guess Senna felt pretty bad...
nigel has been the fastest driver i have ever seen. when he was in the race no leader could think to win until the very end of the race. how i miss mansell!
michael88863 Yes, cos Mansell was realy fast one. Not only in williams. Really dont think he was slower than Senna and Prost. He was real driver as he must be - fearless and very fast.
+Kelvin Almonte One of the best things about Nigel is that he is such a nice person. I've meet him a few times in Montreal when it was much easier to get close to the drivers than it is today, and he was a perfect gentleman with lot's of time for the fans! F1 couldn't ask for a better ambassador that way,...
So much respect for Mansell. Amazing driver. A great business man too. He made a gamble by mortgaging his house to but a F3 car. He always said when he became champion he would retire, which he did. Then he went to america and absolutely smashed them all to pieces. The money he earned from 1992 - 1994 was astronomical ensuring financial security for him and his family. He had his game plan, and has stuck to it. He wasnt the best driver in the world, but is my ultimate hero (and Andy Rouse)
Back here in 2024 to watch some real racing again. Started to follow F1 as an 8 year young kid in 1984 and when I saw Nigel pass out in Dallas I told my dad: I like him he is a real winner. My dad got me the Lotus JPS car with an AM radio in it so I could listen to F1 coverage. I still have that car, I still love Nigel and I really miss the good old days of Formula 1. Love from Holland
True Grit Formula 1! Hamilton should seek advice from NM to push to equal Fangio's Five! 2016 will be an intense scrum on the racetrack. LH will have to raise his gameplans and racecraft. Formula 1next year and 2017 will test the best!
Probably my favourite race out of all Nigel's. I remember watching the first half of the race live on BBC Sunday Granstand and then they switched to golf or cricket for about 2hrs before returning to show the 2nd half of the race (recorded not live) at about 5pm. I so waited with anticipation for the 2nd half to be shown and then had my fingers/toes crossed hoping Nigel's car wouldn't break down - like it usually did. Mansel was such a fighter and such hero!!! This was real F1 - not todays playstation button pushing artificial nonsense.
I remember watching this on BBC like it was only yesterday. Nigel was truely peerless on that day, and neither Senna nor a 60bhp power deficit was going to stop him. An amazing drive, from an amazing driver.
I never got overly excited when Formula 1 visited the Hungaroring because of the nature of the track there was usually not a whole lot of passing and lead changes. I always enjoyed watching Nigel race however and he also was the last driver who was personally chosen to drive for team Scuderia Ferrari by Enzo Ferrari.
One of the greats, should of been a multi world 🏆. I watched 99% of his races live and he always gave everything he had did his talking on track just magnificent and Lewis thats why he was loved by all Englishmen.
The best part of this video is that Senna never had a chance, despite all that Honda horsepower and the resultant increase in downforce . Nigel was beside him and carrying more speed before Ayrton even knew what was happening. I'll put this race up against any!
Mansell retired 7 times in 1989, disqualified twice, no entry Spain., So 10 times he did not finish. He still came 4th. Just 3 points away from 3rd in the championship. Every race that he finished, he was on the podium.
Great to watch. When that Ferrari worked it was a great racing car. Brazil was also a special race. When Mansell was given the tools to compete he was a match for anyone!
Without a doubt, Senna was the most gifted F1 driver ever to grace the sport, but Mansell's pure grit and balls of steel made him my absolute favourite.
NM was no1 when it came to chasing people down. That was a great drive both aggressive and patient when he had to be. Lovely looking car that Ferrari but the Honda engine could pull away on the straight. Some great battles between Senna and Mansell. A great period for f1, 1984-1992. No question Mansell was as good as anybody given the right car and support.
Man! Congrats for this job with the ChannelMansell! Just Priceless. I'm Senna's fan, but I absolutely loved Mansell driving, GENIUS! And @ 9:16, a truly fair and humble guy. Man, when the people come talking about Schumacher, I think with myself "c'mon, Mansell would humiliate him whatever the situation" Absolutely A M A Z I N G video. Thx for this.
Watch at 6:56, mansell speed of corrective lock at the steering wheel. . It’s like a flick blink and you’ll miss it. Patrick head talked about it in his podcast.
Formula One World champion, and Indycar champiion at the same time. No one will ever do that again. He even won his first Indy car race , quick driver.
ITALIAN HISTORICAL BRAND. Nigel Mansell was a real driver in Ferrari, at the time of the sponsor's brand POP84 jeans. thirteenth and the first party arrived in Hungary in 1989. I remember when he mounted the podium with the license plate POP84. Mythical brand of jeans made in italy. "POP 84".
Mansell's tired face says it all. The physical wear of a GP was terrible in those days. And to surpass Senna like that, you have to be a genius. Great drivers. What a wonderful time in Formula 1.
What a great drive by Mansell! Just watch how badly the Ferrari's of Berger and Mansell get absolutely smoked by Senna's McLaren down the pit straight. This is what the competition was up against. It's no wonder that with Senna's uncanny ability to put the McLaren on the pole and drive a wide car, that he was so tough to beat.
Not only Mansells greatest drives, but one of the greatest drives ever.
That move on Senna as they caught a back marker was absolutely brilliant. Nigel was a highly entertaining driver.
Joshua Rosen to me, the only move that comes close to matching, if not better than this is Mika Hakkinen passing Michael Schumacher using Ricardo Zonta at Spa in 2000
sbaker190189 That was a great move too and at an iconic location as well heading down towards Eau Rouge
sbaker190189 That Spa move looked great but was pretty easy. (Only memorable move by Hakkinen, apart from some mistakes...) This Mansell move presented itself but Mansell took it like a lion. I guess Senna felt pretty bad...
Most exciting driver I've ever seen.
nigel has been the fastest driver i have ever seen. when he was in the race no leader could think to win until the very end of the race. how i miss mansell!
Nigel and Ayrton, so fast, I saw them race twice in Adelaide. They we're bouncing all four wheels off the ground in the first chicane.two best drivers
I saw an interview where he talked about shaving down 20 lbs to become even faster and he yet he was fast considering his size, superb!
That's very respectful of Mansell to admit Senna would've been much harder to overtake if it wasn't for that lapped car. Fabulous drive by NM.
Panther sdkfz as a senna fan i must admit i feared mansell more than anyone
michael88863 Yes, cos Mansell was realy fast one. Not only in williams. Really dont think he was slower than Senna and Prost. He was real driver as he must be - fearless and very fast.
What a fantastic driver Mansell was. He warranted at least 3 WDC's.
Mansell was SUPERB!!!!!!..thats why I loved him in F1 and then in CART...what a driver!!!
Legend. Absolutely legendary driver Mansell is.
+Kelvin Almonte One of the best things about Nigel is that he is such a nice person. I watched this live. Surely the best drive by ANY F1 driver ever. Just astonishing skill
mansel has a fan here in Brazil. I admire this guy as a pilot and as a person. mansel a f1 genius. I love this guy.
Mansell The Lion...
Nigel is Fantastic drive .
Nigel Mansell 🇬🇧 Legend on his day, my favorite F1 driver.
When F1 was REAL F1! The gold era of racing days... We miss you guys!
Nigel Mansell so stale today - great drivers top notch competition
True Grit Formula 1! Hamilton should seek advice from NM to push to equal Fangio's Five!
2016 will be an intense scrum on the racetrack. LH will have to raise his gameplans and racecraft. Formula 1next year and 2017 will test the best!
Definitely one of Nigel's top 3 drives...along with Silverstone '87 and New Hampshire '93. But there were many good ones...
Donington 1998 Feature Race in the British Touring Car Championship was another one of his great drives
Great performance, and what a humble bloke.
Probably my favourite race out of all Nigel's. I remember watching the first half of the race live on BBC Sunday Granstand and then they switched to golf or cricket for about 2hrs before returning to show the 2nd half of the race (recorded not live) at about 5pm. One of the greatest overtakes I've ever seen, you're just not meant to do that in Hungary, awesome Mansell
Absolutely sublime.
I remember watching this on BBC like it was only yesterday. Nigel was truely peerless on that day, and neither Senna nor a 60bhp power deficit was going to stop him. An amazing drive, from an amazing driver.
Was it so strange and rare having seeing Mansell driving in a red Ferrari not a blue, white, n yellow Williams?
Mansell was a real racer
nigel fantastic driver
grazie leone......
The early races in Hungaroring were actually quite good. As the cars gained higher and higher downforce it did become dull, similarly to Catalunya.
One of the greats, should of been a multi world 🏆. I watched 99% of his races live and he always gave everything he had did his talking on track just magnificent and Lewis thats why he was loved by all Englishmen.
What a driver!
Back when Formula 1 wasnt just a parade. Mansell is a legend
Fantastic Move from Mansell. Murray Walker's Reaction was super.
The best part of this video is that Senna never had a chance, despite all that Honda horsepower and the resultant increase in downforce . Nigel was beside him and carrying more speed before Ayrton even knew what was happening. I'll put this race up against any!
Nigel is my idol
Watched this round my nans aged 9, it was fantastic. Over 30 years later.....its even better
When Mansell was given the tools to compete he was a match for anyone!
...dopo 27 anni, ancora grazie Leone!!!
best race in my memory.. Nigel Mansell reign
Ahhh. What an era. Early/mid 80's to late 90's was the golden era of F1.
Mansell, Senna, Prost, Berger,Patrese so many champions all together.....amazing
Best drive ever
Was there on the start tribune, great ferrari victory with mansell overtaking sennna
Without a doubt, Senna was the most gifted F1 driver ever to grace the sport, but Mansell's pure grit and balls of steel made him my absolute favourite.
I love watching these videos from my youth.
Mansell smile :D Great Mansell!!!!
mansell lion's heart. mansell fantastic mansell myth. mansell a fantastic human being.
Oh my god!
That's incredible!
fantastico!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NM was no1 when it came to chasing people down. That was a great drive both aggressive and patient when he had to be. Pure class !! Legendary !!
Senna... the moving obstacle. When Mansell passed him, he went miles away...
The Gear box held out for a change.
7:20. Murray goes from 0-200mph in half a second :) I remember watching this race as a 7 year old kid. I was jumping off the sofa :)
Senna = the most talented driver to have ever lived.
Mansell = the most aggressive driver ever.
Quando era assecondato dalla macchina era una forza della natura. il Leone d'Inghilterra!
One of the best drivers in F1 history to not win multiple world championships.
We'll put, the amount of times he overtook, piquet, Prost and Senna,
My word ! That is driving from the top drawer - serious stuff to take out so many quality drivers !
Nigel Mansells use of back markers is great
Mansell was always so fast. Only rotten luck denied him more than one world title
That man came from another planet!!!
"on a circuit you can't overtake on"
Perhaps, Mansell just didnt know this?
This is F1
I love love LOVE Nigell
Not only probably his best drive (nightmare to overtake) but also my favourite 'Murray moment' on the Senna overtake!
The way the Senna's McLaren opened the gap in the main straight was impressive!
Una carrera espectacular senna mansel patreze todos todos eran unos pilotasos arriba los fierros la f1
great race - miss those days
Ahh the sparks! How I miss'em!
Fantastic
Watch at 6:56, mansell speed of corrective lock at the steering wheel. . It’s like a flick blink and you’ll miss it. Patrick head talked about it in his podcast.
Peter Windsor talks about Nigel's amazing touch on the wheel.
I N C R E D I B L E ! ! !
Roll of honour!!!
A fucking genius drive :-)
I can’t believe they let Prost take Mansells seat in 1993
WALKER: ".......failing to score one CHAMPIONSHIP POINT......... MANSELL GOES THROUGH!!!!!"
one epic pass on Senna indeed.......
Mansell grande pilota , molto veloce e cuore da leone
Great drive by Nigel, although I'm thinking if Riccardo didn't have mechanical issues, he would have been able to hold on for the win.
Formula One World champion, and Indycar champiion at the same time. No one will ever do that again. He even won his first Indy car race , quick driver.
grandissimo, sempre al massimo
wow !! just..wow... i mean.....wow....
Mansell was superhuman in situations like that. What an era of Formula One
Fair do's that was an amazing Mansell race , Ferrari on song . Senna must of been wounded !
MANSELL CAMPIONE ASSOLUTO
Ainda tem brasileiro quer desqualificar um fera como foi mansell
Mansell,Senna,Piquet,Prost,legendaris
I think the best thing about Nigels story is, the man & team that Honda left in 1987, was the same combination to eventually beat Honda.
+flipsidedogchop Nigel just didn't beat Honda, he destroyed them!
My congratulations.
Nigel Mansell is the Daniel Riccardo of this generation
Possibly in terms of driving, however Daniel Ricciardo is more at ease with the press than Nigel Mansell was during his racing days.

Fabulas drive by Mansell!!
Manssel era arrojo e emoção sempre
So eary knowing you were a watching a race that was behind the iron curtain.
Fantastic show! Bernie should take a look at this videos and see how much the new rules hurts formula 1! Too many restriction .
I personally believe that Nigel Mansell better Driver than Miqchael Schumacher was
Nigel Mansell the best
😍😍😍😍
Lapping over 2 secs faster, oh Mansell just Fantastic, should have been at least 3 times Champ....86 & 91 bad luck cost him!
Not only did Nigel and company beat Honda in 1992, the shit kicking was such that Honda left F1 with their heads hanging in shame. I loved it!
