If your station is understaffed (after laying off people), then it’s their fault for not being prepared if someone is sick. It’s not your responsibility to sacrifice yourself for bad corporate decision making.

Age 22 Moderna 1st dose: just a sore arm for about 24-30 hours. 2nd dose: nothing, no arm soreness at all and I was expecting so much worse. It affects everyone so differently!

P.S. Age 31 Moderna second dose, very tired for less than 24 hours. Parents: Age 70, retired, Moderna no effect (she NEVER gets sick). Age 65, Pediatrician, Moderna: I told him he looked like a basset hound dragging when he came home from work- bounced back 24-48 hours later. Mental health improvement: 300+ %

Hi Clancy! I am a 24 year old teacher and everyone in my district was offered J&J. While there were various levels, pretty much everyone got pretty sick and we had staffing issues in the days after (almost 200 employees out in one day for the district). Young people got hit harder it seemed. Personally, there might have been a time where I was sicker, but I can't think of one... my fever was so high that I had fever induced nightmares and I took the first sick day off of work in my life (as a workaholic like you). That being said, I'm so grateful to have gotten it and wouldn't change anything, but I think it is good to be honest about how rough it was for a few days.

When you said you threw the phone away after sending the call out text, that spoke to me lol. Every time I call out my anxiety is through the roof, even though I know my reason for calling out is legitimate. In my mind I’m always like, “this is gonna be the straw that breaks the camels back. I called already like 3 months ago. They’re gonna be mad, and I’m gonna get fired.” That never happens of course because I’m lucky my employer is incredibly understanding, but it’s still soooo anxiety-inducing.

We have a point system at my job. You get 12 points a year, if you go over, you get fired. For example, being late will give you half a point. Calling out as long as it’s 4 hours before your shift will get you 1 point. Calling out less than 4 hours gets you 2 points. Calling out on a holiday- 2 points. Requesting off, getting denied, then calling out on that day- 2 points (sometimes it’s better to just call out & save a point than to request off & risk getting denied) But, if you call out 2 days in a row, you only get 1 1/2 points, and 3 days in a row you only get 2 points. Also, if you want to go home early, as long as you’ve completed half your shift, you can take 1/2 a point and go home early. That all probably sounded so confusing lol but it’s pretty awesome. No one has to be afraid to call out because the only punishment is getting a point. They can’t fire you (unless you go over 12 points) and they can’t be mad because you are allowed 12 points. We also have a direct call out line where you can call at any hour of the day/night and just leave a message. No anxiety of having to talk to management. And because of the point system, you can literally just call and say “I can’t come in today” don’t even need a reason. Coming from a job that I worked at for 7 years and never once called out (we weren’t allowed! You’d have to call around and pray that someone would cover your shift, even tho we had barely any extra employees) it’s been so awesome having no repercussions or anxiety for calling out, just points. Every employer should use the point system.
