On my head, several head nuts were galled onto the studs. The previous owner (on reassembly) didn't bother to separate the nuts from the studs and drove the studs in with the nuts fused to them. Under one nut a washer was omitted (critical mistake; you can guess what happened). The stud then was driven in too far, bottomed out and cracked the engine block. But...he didn't know about it as it was the final torque-down. This is how to repair a blown head gasket and still end up having coolant getting into your engine oil. The curse of those little details! Cheers for the series Lance.
Nearly brought tears to my eyes thinking about Da, my older brother and I doing that to replace a liner on the kerosene fergie, I think a 52. English built one imported to Cda. Awesome videos.
Thanks for uploading the video Lance. Have to go shopping to pick up supplies during lockdown. This gives me something to watch when I get home with my cup of tea. Can't wait, I know it will be good. 👍👍👍
Loving the videos Lance. Recently got myself a 1948 TEA20. I'm a fork truck engineer so used to spanners, but tractors a are new to me. I'm sure your videos will help no end.
Sponsored by Sparex, but with a Bare co box on display in the background! Love it! I got a 1950 ted20 and a 1947 tea20 with a dexta 3 cyl engine in it, an f3 not a p3
Just removed my cylinder head and found three head gaskets and two spacers separating them, gasket, spacer, gasket, spacer, gasket. It is a TEA20 converted to run on TVO at some point. If I set it back to original, petrol only do I need shorter head studs and pushrods ?
Just spotted the gap between the crank pulley and that bracket. Mine doesn’t have any gap to get the belt off so I’m thinking it may have had a hit in the front and bent something at some stage.
Another great and very informative video thank you Lance. I have an intermittent misfire on my 48 TEA20 could this be caused by head a fault. Tight valve, bent and sticking push rod or something along those lines ? I quite fancy taking the head of my tractor and this video has given me the confidence to do it.
Hi Lance, my head gasket is blown and has filled up no2 cylinder. Not a problem I will replace the head gasket. My question is, there is water in the sump, this has just occurred when the head gasket blew. I have started to strip for the head gasket replacement and have taken off the rocker cover, the plug you show in your video in the head has actually been replaced with an aluminium plug cut flush with the head so that ls not sendingbwater into the sump. How can I tell if the cylinder liner gaskets are leaking as the head gasket is blown badly and a cooling ststem pressure test cannot be done. Do I just replace the head gasket and see if water ends up in the sump again or can I check for cylinder liner gasket leakage by sump removal? Thanks in advance. Love your Videos, very informative.
Lance - I have a 1954 TEA20 on which I am doing a reasonably complete overhaul here in Maryborough Qld. On removing the head one of the studs broke, one came out and the others remain. My question is do I remove the other studs for replacement or leave sleeping dogs lie. My concern is breaking other studs. I am dealing with the one broken one and dont need any more.
Have you got any petrol 80mm tea 20 over there with tvo conversions on them two head gaskets and a thick gasket plate between also a vaporising manifold.
Ellis engine and parts on Ritchie st I think it is. Hes a young bloke that did work experience with me years ago and he bought the old run down business and is building it up. He is going to take some video of the repairs for me.
Hi Lance do you know how long the TEA push rods are? Ive got a TEA20 that at some point was converted to TVO by adding 5 head gaskets and putting in the longer push rods from a TED Im rebuilding the engine and putting it back to how it was originally but I need to swap the push rods for the shorter TEA ones. Ive already payed out for one set that I was told were the shorter ones but they are too long Id like to know the exact length I need before paying for another set but cant find out how long they are supposed to be from anywhere can you help???
Hi Lance, Great run through. Thanks for that. Just a question on the flat washers for the cylinder head. Are they a hardened steel as opposed to a mild steel washer? Cheers, Paul. Surrey UK

Thanks Stuart, Yeah there is some dodgy things happen out there alright, they can give you trouble.
Bundy Bears Shed Thanks Lance. As always great viewing. You always keep things simple. Thanks again.
Thank you very much for the video from NEW ZEALAND 🇳🇿
Thanks for watching!

That's awesome go and get stuck into it.
Great job lance I got a 1951 ferguson tea20 I want restore some day. Your videos are such a great help learn things every time. Thanks from Canada.
Thanks Mike, Glad to help
G'day mate This is going to very interesting Lance I will enjoy all parts. Johm
Thanks John.

Yeah I covered it eventually, lol. Not real high tech here.
Nice one lance, did one of these up myself last year, mine is a 1949 tractor, so enjoyable to work on
Thanks 👍
Great video, much appreciated.
Glad it was helpful!
Hi Bear, great to watch your workings. I am onto my third TE20 now on a tart up. No rebuild on this one as yet
sounds good, I think you might have the disease.
Good work Lance. Looking forward to the next vid. Cheers Geoff.
Thanks 👍
Good video lance the manifold on my tea and ted 20 s have a valve on the manifold side of the breather
Yes I have seen them. I think the heat made the oily vapour turn hard and clog them up.
Thank you again. My 58 Ferguson has 105, 75, 45, 75 lbs compressions, not running. Is rebuilt the only route to restore it?
Lance, you forgot the " possum pee" to help the bolts come undone :-)
Yeah I did but it was there for sure.
Another good informative video
Thanks again!
Great video Lance - when you come across nuts and bolts that are worn out will you replace them?
Yes every one.

Im not sure about the head studs but the push rods possibly. I would do a dry run and get some measurements.
@@BundyBearsShed Thanks Lance. I hope I don't need pushrods I cannot find any at all in the UK. 🙁

Sounds like you may be right there.

Could just be a sticky injector, but running it with the tappet cover off might give you a better idea of what the problem is.
@@BundyBearsShed Thanks Lance you're a star.

Answered on email.
What do you exactly mean by "radiusing them up" when talking about the rockers that have been dished out at 24 minutes?
Smooth the surface out and try and have a natural curve to rub on the valves so it doesnt catch in one place.

G day Bob, Pull them for sure and look for corrosion or stretched threads.
@@BundyBearsShed do you have a suggestion on method to best remove them - thanks
Thank you sir
Thankyou, All the best
Hi Lance should throttle rod from carb be straight mine isn’t on my ted or tea
No not from memory.

Not that I have ever seen.
Well explained Lance thankyou. Who do you get to do your head repair?

Not straight up i know there are 3 different sizes but Ill try and measure mine if I get home before dark.
Bundy Bears Shed - Thanks that would be a great help if you could 👍
G’day Lance dont suppose you got a chance to measure those push rods?
Hi Lance,
Great run through.
Thanks for that.
