I used to live in Santa Cruz years ago... I finally had enough of the throngs of the heroin addicts begging for money on every corner on the Pacific Garden Mall... The 89 earthquake really destroyed the Mall...I left about six or seven years ago... The Casino Beach was also very dangerous to walk around with bare feet because of the amount of used syringes laying around in the sand...
Hard shoes are a must for the beaches from Capitola all the way down to the end of the beach at the big hotel...

About 40 years ago I was living in a car...As soon as it was light enough, I would get out on the sand and would have a 5 gallon bucket to carry everything I could find...I remember that I found lots of unopened beers and other stuff worth taking... My best score was two dozen unopened beers... Don't drink alcohol anymore.... Don't even live in the Monterey Bay area anymore...😢

The oval piece with the "pin" in the end as you called it, was a 1950's hair barette. Mom parted girls hair down the middle and then slid yje pin end under the hair. The ends were then clipped into the end of the barette and held the hair in place.

@@MontereyMagnetMan I shut that off on my beaches, On Lake Erie, no salt water here. I usually hunt in park mode even at beaches. no longer have the simplex. got a Legend and equinox 600
